Chapter 4
Dear diary, as I have feared, today was once again a horrible and long working day. Tomorrow is finally my day off and I will use it to do nothing. Absolutely nothing, because for now, that is all that my body and my brain can do, due to the high stress job. If only the paycheck depended on the amount of stress on has to endure during work, I think, things would be a lot different. Just before I started this entry, I was watching the news, staring at my screen like zombie, eating up all the information the tiny people who lived in my screen were giving me. I felt as if I was hypnotized when a news report about EasyWay`s new shopping center came on. The report said it was a massive hit and they surely weren’t lying. Just by looking at the crowded store, that become obvious. The store is even attracting people from all around the globe, not just the locals, which makes sense I guess. I’ve always taken shopping as an errand, something you must do. Something you do quickly and get out as soon as you can, so you don’t get sucked into the world of commercials and end up buying something you don’t really need. I used to think that everyone felt so. How wrong was I. For modern person, shopping is actually considered as an experience, as an adventure. A fun trip for your family. Why go to a museum if you can go to the mall? Why spend quality time with your loved ones, when you can blow of the entire day in a mall and trendy coffee places. How this happened is clear. Just another manipulation of the regular, normal people who don’t even realize it. They are being exploited by big companies so mooch money of them. Money that could be spent on better things. People in charge of these companies are smart, much smarter than everyday people. They study their behavior, their habits, their schedules. With commercials they lure them into their stores, making them feel appreciated, validated, even important. Therefore, people are now convinced that shopping must be an adventure, something you do all day instead of taking a trip. Trick words are used, like discount or sale to lure in even more people. Sure it may seem like a cheap trip, just getting a cup of coffee, buying an item on sale, but these things pile up. So you end up spending more money than you should and you are left to wonder, where did all your money go. I must say, people who thought of this sales trick were smart and those in charge of such companies are smart as well. So we can’t really blame them for manipulating us, we should only blame ourselves for letting it happen. An example of this happened today.
Some Murder cards, I can’t remember which ones, were on sale, twenty-five percent discount was offered and of course people took the bait. Sales went through the roof, and soon murder rates will too. It made me think of all the deaths that will happen and soon, my mind was on my fiancée who died. Ever since then, I`ve distanced myself from people. I live alone and intent to do so until I die. I know, if I get attached to someone and if they die before I do, I know, I won`t be able to handle it. It has been two years since, Richard my fiancée died and I am still suffering. I still miss him terribly and think about him every day. So therefor I chose the life of solidarity, because it is the only lifestyle I can bear. Some people chose the same lifestyle as me for same reasons or in fear of being murdered. On the other hand, some people live in a complete opposite way. Some are outgoing and friendly. But those are the kind of people one should be worried about. The friendlier, the more dangerous is the unwritten rule.
These people on a way hint their victims by befriending them, while silently plotting their death, simply because they enjoy it. In a way, I even envy those people. They are not afraid of getting hurt, because they risk their own lives as well by doing this. So is there a solution for me? A solution for lonely people? Sure there is. A robot partner. They were a big hit when they were first invented and perfect to such detail, that you had to look twice to see that is was a robot. But the hype about them passed and today they are not so popular as they used to be. When they first came out, people were fascinated by them, couldn’t believe their eyes. Soon it was realized that they a merely just a high tech toy. It is no substitute for a real partner, except if you have control issues and demand partner to act in certain way. But for most people, including me, they are only good for sexual intercourse. They get the job done, very well. They have replaced the oldest profession known to man, prostitution. Nowadays they are being produced mostly for this purpose because the demand is huge and the offer is very well perfected. So for me, that is enough, maybe someday I’ll feel the need for a human companion, but for now, I don’t see that happening.
