Chapter 36
Dear diary, we finally got some results, and they were good and useful. Finally, we had proof of their no good doing. Lola was obviously furious about the whole ordeal. She wasn’t informed about our first attempt, but this one, she couldn’t miss. No one said anything to her anything about the first, simply because they thought it was irrelevant. It became crystal clear to us, she was in fact in charge, of everything. She is the one everyone answers to. Sadly, it’s still not clear why that is. She’s still wrapped in mystery, so many questions about her needed to be answered. Hopefully Rei finds what she is hiding and soon. We’ve been observing her behavior through the cameras and it was anything but boring. With fear, she was told about us and our attack and the people who told her, had every right to be terrified. Just as everyone expected she went nuts, started hysterically screaming at everyone that could hear her, until her face was burning red and her voice was raspy. She accused her workers of incompetence, blaming them for everything, for letting this happen. When she was done with her tantrum she threw everyone out of the room and her body was shaking of rage. Eventually, she was able to calm down. When she did, she called Belinda in her office. She seemed the least terrified of her. She appears calm and focused. I guess we know why she’s her right hand. Lola spoke to her in a calm but strict tone, softer than she spoke with everyone else. “Belinda, where did I go wrong? Why did this happen?” She asked her, fishing for attention and praise. Belinda took time to answer, so she would get it just right and wouldn’t offend her. “This is not your fault. Don’t beat yourself over this. This was entirely fault of someone else. And I will find the one responsible.” Lola, pleased with her answer, continued her acts of crazy. “What can we do now?” She said in a high, squeaky voice. “We find them.” Belinda bluntly answered. Lola stands up from her chair, changing her mood instantly. “That’s obvious you dumb fat cow.” She furiously said. Belinda said nothing. Lola stepped closer. She looked her up and down when she said, “how will you find them?” Intimidating her completely. “We have to come up with a plan.” Belinda answer, trying to stay strong. Just like a predator, playing with its prey, Lola was playing with her. “You do that. Until those people are found, no one leaves. And if they are not brought to me in three days...” She takes a short pause before continuing, while circling around Belinda. “Everyone responsible for this, will pay. With their own lives. That includes you.” Belinda said nothing in return but her face said it all. “That would be all. Go now.” Lola dismisses her. Belinda wanted to say something, but at the last second, she changed her mind. So silently, she left the room to meet with her coworkers, to come up with a plan. “Can they really find us Rei?” Quin nervously asked. “It’s possible, but highly unlikely.” He answered back. “What if they do?” She sharply replies back.” Well hear their plan, so we will know what to expect.” He answers, trying to calm her down. So we watched and waited for them to come up with something. They had some good ideas, some even I though could work. But then, the final idea came, one that will work for sure. They can get to us, without doing anything. They know well come again. For Ian. All they have to do, is wait and when we do go back for the man that brought us all together, who made all of this possible, then they will attack, leaving no survivors. They were right, they had us.
“We can’t just leave Ian there. We have to do something.” I loudly say, but all I get in return is silence. “You can’t be serious. We can’t just leave him there.” I say, when I didn’t get an answer, as a sign people were thinking of leaving there. “It would be the right thing to get him out. But how? A much smarter plan would be... To safe those can still can be saved.” Quin says. “You can’t be serious. After all he has done for us, this is how we are going to repay him?” I angrily say, shocked at what I am hearing. “You’re right, we shouldn’t leave him there. Who knows what they are doing to him?” A man from the group answers, someone I do not know well. “They’ll be ready for us. They’ll kill us all. I think it would be foolish if we went.” A woman answers. “None of us would be here if it weren’t for him.” I say, desperately trying to convince those opposing to change their mind. “Anyone got any suggestion on how would we pull this off?” Quin asks the crowd. “We go in, one last time and destroy them once and for all.” Rei answers, emerging from the quiet. “Okay, so we need to come up with a plan too. And fast.” Quin says, luckily changing her mind. I’m glad she did so. “Are you insane? You are doing exactly what they want!” Same redheaded woman from before yells. “You wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for him!” I yell back at her. I never liked her. “She’s right. We owe him everything.” Quin backs me up. “Anyone opposed can leave.” Rei strictly adds. No one does, because they all know very well, they are safest here. Luckily Rei had new information, useful to us, which will help with our plan. He presented them out in the open, in front of everyone. He started with something we already knew. The second chip, in our brains triggers the need to kill. For a long time, we wondered if the murders are somehow connected. Thanks to him, now we know they are. Not only that, we know why. I was never one for fairy tales or folk legends getting more and more dramatic by each generation. But Lola certainly believed in such things. She also made her supporters share her views. I must say, the reason behind the murder cards blew my mind. Something I would never have thought of. It’s not religion or revenge nor is it just for plain fun. It’s because of a fairy tale or an old legend. Lola strongly believed in the legendary and much talked about find of explorer Ponce de Leon. The wan who supposedly found the fountain of youth. He drank from it and brought some of that magic water to his home village where he shared his discovery with his family and closest friends. Everyone who got a taste of it, lived long lives and appeared youthful for much longer than the rest. The magic of the water made its mark on the blood, it changed it. That mark got passed down to future generations, even until this very day. So even the descendants of those who drank the water from the fountain of youth lived longer, but still not forever. On one of her trips, Lola found the village where the famous Ponce de Leon once lived in. People there were young and glowing of beauty. Far more than they should be at their age. She asked them about their beauty and youthful look as she wanted it for herself. Unfortunately, she wasn’t one of the descendant of the originals, so she could not possess the magic gene that makes life longer. Desperate for the promise of immortality, she knew she had to achieve her goal some other way. As it is told, blood is life. It’s what keeps us going and keeps us alive. Lola knows this fact as well, very well. So she developed a theory of her own and she was the one that tested it. She took a life of one of the people holding the youthful gene and drank their blood. She though if she got their blood running through her veins, the magic of the fountain would apply to her as well. She noticed her theory working which pleased her. She was feeling good and rejuvenated but not long after her experiment, she discovered, it was wearing off. She lost her glow, she started knowing dry and wrinkly skin, sagginess under her eyes. She knew she needed more. That’s how the murder cards happen. It wasn’t written how she got her blood supply before EasyWay opened her doors. But everything since then was. The company possess a special test, which shows who has the gene made by the fountain. Another function of the second chip. When such people are found, the company triggers the chip which gives the need to kill specific person. When the dirty deed is done, the company sends their “cleaning crew” to clean up the mess. In reality those people are just getting the blood for her. When she gets what she needs, she drinks it with pleasure. In order t get the Murder cards legal, she needed help of influential people, mostly politicians. She shared her secret with them, promising them youth and eternal life. Once she got what she needed, she got rid of them and only kept a few, those who could still be useful or those who were just as evil as she was. She was and is puppet master of the world and no one knows. No one knows she even exists. To public she is long dead and forgotten. But in reality, she is the one behind it all, alive and well and shattering every theory that she is just a clone. At the age of 131, she is by far the oldest person alive. But this wasn’t all that Rei was able to discover. After the initial shock of everyone who heard this wore off, he continued. As if it wasn’t clear by now, he told us that the leading lady is a sociopath, who simply enjoys murder and likes to relieve it and watch it. Hens the theatre of horror. Everyone fears her but at the same time worships her, so they participate in this activity, if they like it, or not. They would do anything for her liking and to stay in her inner circle because they know, in an instant, she can destroy them. Just like she has done with so many others. It was clear that she uses the world for her personal benefit, when we learned that overpopulation was nothing more but a hoax, she started in order to convince the public that the Murder cards are a good idea. All this so she can get her blood supply without any hassle. The Roman law is another one of her ideas. Its inspiration came from old movies, those who portrayed gladiator fights. Because time travel is still not possible, she thought of another way to relieve history. Since she can’t see the actual ancient fights, she made a modern version of it. But none of the people who have the blood of youth participate in those fights, she wouldn’t want to risk wasting their blood. This was just entertainment for her.
