Chapter 76
Maya
“Hey Les, It’s your birthday,” said Maya morosely, without even a hint of pleasantry.
“Best birthday present I ever got,” Les returned the sentiment, rounding on Steve.
“What the...?” Steve was trying to open a portal, but was failing miserably. They were in cargo bay A, and it was crawling with bugs. The hold was locked down, there was no way in or out, and Maya’s mortal enemy was standing there defenceless. But he wasn’t her toy, there was someone that wanted him more than she did.
Les’s fist met Steve’s face with some power behind it, throwing Steve backwards. He struggled back onto his feet, saving face, refusing to stay down.
“You’ll never find her if you kill me,” Steve sneered at them, his true colours breaking through the fake persona of charisma he had bestowed upon them previously.
“Who said anything about killing you. I was just thinking torture,” Les jeered in such an uncharacteristically Les way it made Maya’s heart break. Without Rob he just wasn’t Les any more.
“Then I’ll float away to get repaired like a broken bicycle,” he showed all his teeth as he leaned towards Les in a serpent like movement. He really was a monster.
“Not under this roof you won’t,” it was Maya’s time to jeer. “There ain’t no breaking out of this joint.”
“You won’t get away with this!” he sneered some more.
“Oh get a new line!” Les groaned before hitting him again.
“You’re going to take me to Ellie,” Maya told him, her voice light.
“What, so you can then kill me? I think not, if I die, she dies.” Steve was smiling a sick, twisted smile.
“But you are already dead,” Maya laughed a sinister laugh most unlike hers. She was secretly quite proud of it. “Anyway, I’ve got people to see and places to be,” she sang, as Joe and Les forced Steve into a body lock.
“Got him?” asked Maya sweetly.
“He’s ours,” Les grinned.
“Okay, be back to test,” and with that, Maya turned the bugs to glass, engulfed the tracker with her into their house in LA, then immediately back to the room. While she engulfed out, she ensured she was holding Steve where he was using her gift.
“The bugs moved as soon as you left,” Joe confirmed their earlier test.
“Watch it, he’s prepared this time,” she warned, as they tightened their hold on Steve. The bugs were only glass for a split second as Maya portalled out again with the tracker.
