The Mate of Two: The Ruby Wolf Series

Chapter 4

3 months. 3 months and still Damien hasnt shown up to school. He just disappeared. I was beginning to think he died. Like nobody just up and disappears like that with no other explanation.

I was walking home, when I saw an unfamiliar car pull up. I watched as the women stepped out. Her hair as red as blood. When she turned, I smiled. I hurried across the street.

"Rose. Hey. It's been a long time." I smiled.

"It has. I heard about your mother and brother from one of your neighbors. I came up as quickly as I could. I'm so sorry." Rose said. Shes been my best friend for 5 years now. She was away with her parents when the accident happened.

Her already pale white skin shone in the sun against the black clothes she wore. Her hair was the color of blood. Stopping mid thigh. Her golden eyes were beautiful. I always felt a little self conscious beside her. But I loved her anyway.

"So, may i meet your dad?"

I smiled at her and we headed inside.

"Hes not yet home. But he should be in a few minutes. I'm gonna go up and change if you want to wait in the living room. Or you can come up to my room."

"I'll head up with you."

____

We headed down the stairs as the front door opened. Vicky was walking in with groceries with dad behind her. Kameran and Angie, Damiens parent came walking in behind him. With Jasil, Damiens youngest sister.

"We have company." He spoke.

"Ya. And I do too. Dad this is my friend from Washington, Rose." I introduced them. "Rose this is my dad, Kyle."

"Its nice to meet you Kyle. I've heard alot about you. Good and bad." She smiled holding out her hand.

My dad took it.

"What is she doing here!?" I heard Jasil ask her father.

"Let's all go into the living room, Victoria will have dinner done soon." My father spoke.

We all followed into the living room. Rose had a smirk on her face. Jasil looked sick. She stared viciously at her phone. Looking back and forth between her phone and Rose.

"If you'll excuse me. I must take this call." Kameran said as his phone chimed.

2 hours later we all sat around the table. Damien had ended up showing up. It was good to know he wasnt dead. But not once had he looked at me. He just stared at Rose.

It was understandable. Rose was breathtakingly beautiful. But I couldnt help the sad pull on my heart from his silence towards me. I mean I know I had told him to stay away, but I secretly hoped he wouldnt....

I looked down at my food when his attention turned to me. Like he knew I was thinking about him.

"Rose, how long have you known Ariel?" My father asked.

"5 years. I had gone to visit her at her moms when a neighbor told me about the accident." She answered after swallowing her food.

"I see." He said, taking a bite.

"Rose, may I speak with you?" Damien asked. I flinched at his question. I really didnt think he would ask her right infront of everyone.

"No. I'm enjoying my food too much to move." She answered.

I slid down in my seat a little.

"I'd greatly appreciate a word with you." He pushed. His jaw twitched.

"And I said no." She answered.

"I would advise you speaking with me." He said, his jaw tight.

I stood, my chair sliding back, then it fell over.

I turned and walked out of the room. I walked outside to the hammock in the back. I needed fresh air.

"Your reaction was very obvious." Damien spoke behind me.

"I was tired of the uncomfortable tension in the room." Which wasnt a full lie.

"I dont find Rose a single bit attractive." He spoke as though he heard my thoughts.

"I never said I cared." I stood from the hammock.

"Shes not a good person.. I've know her for years." He said.

I stared at him. "You know Rose?"

"Not in a good way."

"What does that mean."

"It means Rose and I are basically fixated on ruining each others lifes."

"Wow. It's nice to know. That just means you will be staying away from me and her for the time being."

"That's not a good idea."

"Whys that. You disappeared for 3 months. You never told anyone where you were." I pointed my finger at him.

"I didnt think you cared enough to know." He said, catching my hand. Pleasure ran through my body.

"I dont care. But-" I looked at him.

"But what, Ariel." He pulled me closer.

"You cant worry people." I whispered. Now standing inches from him.

"I cant stay away from you anymore." He whispered leaning down.

I closed my eyes. "What is happening?" My voice barely came out as a whisper.

"I'm tired of ignoring you. I'm tired of my feelings being shoved aside while everyone else gets to be happy."

"What?" I looked up at him, his face close enough to kiss.

"I've been waiting a long time to love someone. Now that you are here I dont intend to lose you." His lips brushed mine as he talked.

"We hate each other." I whispered.

"I've never hated you. Nor have you hated me. You've always been attracted to me. As I have been to you."

"We barely know each other. We werent even friends."

"We have all the time in the world." He leaned closer.

"Dont." I whispered, "we will both regret this."

"I'll never regret this, Ar." His hand laid on the small of my back. Pulling me flush against him.

"Nobody has ever called me that."

"First time for everything." He leaned down to kiss me. I turned my face. His lips touching my jaw. "Please, let me kiss you."

"We barely know each other." I repeated.

He pulled away. "Then let's get to know each other. Tomorrow we will be spending the whole day together."

"Rose-"

"Rose can go eat shit."

"Damien."

"Just stay away from her. She destroys anything that makes me happy."

"I make you happy?" I raised my eyebrow at him.

"Very much." He smiled. My heart fluttered at his smile.

I looked at him. Strangely. We barely knew each other. Yet I make him happy.

"What were you doing these last 3 months?"

"Trying to stay away from you."

"That didnt work."

"It was painful but worked up until Rose came to ruin everything."

"Shes my friend. She wont hurt me though."

"You dont know her like I do. If you are the key to destroying me. Then she wont hesitate in destroying you as well."

"You are a very paranoid man." I shook my head at his words. She would never hurt me.

"Ariel." Rose spoke behind us.

"Yes."

"You should get away from him." She said.

"Not you too. Why?"

"Because he is not who he says he is."

"What are you doing Rose." He warned.

"Telling her the truth." She snapped at him.

"This is how you're going to do it? Make her distrust me with lies."

"Oh these arent lies." She smirked.

"She doesnt need to know that." He stepped towards her.

"Oh but I think she does. If she rejects you then that will be all I need to do to ruin you."

"What the hell are you two talking about?" I asked.

_________

(Damien)

"What the hell are you two talking about?" Ariel asked.

"She doesnt need to know anything, Rose." I warned. I watched the vampire smirk as she stepped closer to Ariel.

I wanted to pull Ariel behind me. But stopped myself.

"Rose, what is going on here?" Worry laced her words.

"He ruined my life. I'm going to ruin his. He took my love. He took my mate away from me. Now I'm going to repay that by taking you away from him." She came closer, but stopped when I put myself between her and Ariel.

"Get out of my way. I'll make her death quick and easy."

I quickly spoke to my father, knowing he could hear every single word spoke. "Keep everyone inside. No matter what they hear."

"I will. Kill her. Save your mate."

I turned my attention back to Rose.

"Ddeath! Yyou're going to kkill me? That's wwhy you came here? I thought you were my ffriend." Ariel stuttered, tears coming to her eyes.

"Sorry, dearie, but if I have the chance to make Damien suffer, then I'm going to take it." Rose went to move towards her.

"Dont!" I warned. Taking a step towards Rose.

"Damien?"

I turned and looked at Ariel. Fear clear on her face.

"I'm sorry for this." I said.

"Awe how sweet. Now get out of my way." Rose spat.

"No! If you want her you have to go through me."

"Very well. Carry!"

"Carry?" I said as she came walking out of the trees behind us.

"I'm sorry. She has too much control over me."

"Take the girl. I'm going to take care of Damien. Once I'm done. I'll come for the girl."

"That's not going to happen." My uncle said. He was standing along the tree line on the far side of the yard. With my 2 other sisters and brother standing with him.

"You wont touch the girl, Rose." Christine said.

"Whose gonna stop me? You?" She laughed.

"All of us will." Britney said. "You will not hurt the human, Rose."

"Human? We are all human. What the hell does that mean?" Ariel sputtered.

Shit. "Britney" I warned low enough for Ariel to not hear.

'Sorry' she mouthed to me.

"Oh dont you get it, sweetie? We are all vampires while you are a human. Our food source." As Rose spoke her eyes changed to red and her fangs came out.

Ariel gasped and back up away from me.

"Ar." I whispered.

"Yyouu all aare ccrazy." She stuttered.

I took a step towards her.

"Stop. Stay away from me." She about yelled.

"Shes lying Ariel."

"Then what's that?" She waved her hand frantically towards Rose.

"Get inside. You will be safe there. We will talk some other time. We need to take care of Rose."

Ariel looked at me. Before she took off running towards the back door.

As soon as she was inside, I grabbed ahold of Rose, dragging her towards the vehicles.

She tried fighting but I broke her neck before she could do anything more.

By the time I got home and got her i

Chained in a holding cell she began to wake up.

"You really think you'll win?" She spat.

"I already have." I sat in the far corner away from her.

"You havent won a thing. She will die. One way or another."

"You will die."

"You think you can stop me? You have another thing coming. You think I'm really Rose? Then you have underestimated her once again." She said. Then her face became deformed. Turning from Rose's face, to a black haired woman.

"Where is she?" I hissed in her face as I grabbed her by her shirt.

"Shes miles away. Shes not stupid enough to come near you. You think she would risk being caught. You think she'd have not put up a fight? She wanted to know exactly who your mate was. She knew that if she came to see Ariel. She could find out. But shes not stupid enough to come herself. So she sent me. She has a witch. A powerful one. One that projects her appearance and Mind into another. So she knows what's going on, but is safe states away. She was very disappointed and happy to know that Ariel is your mate. Your reaction made it even better." She laughed.

"Why the hell are you telling me all this?" I snapped.

"Because she wanted me too. She knows I'm not going to live. I know I'm not going to live. Serving my mistress is what I live for."

"You people are sick." I spat, before ripping her heart out.

After I cleaned up I went up to my family and told them what the woman said.

"We need to figure out what we are going to do." Jasil said.

"We have to protect the girl." Britney spoke.

"We all need to befriend her." Christine added.

"So we all are going to protect her?" Caleb spoke.

"We have to keep Damiens mate safe." My mother spoke.

"Do you think shes going to be okay with us being around now? She saw what that woman did. She put our secret right out there. How are we going to get her to trust us now." Caleb spoke. He was the most rational sibling.

"Maybe she'll wake up and think it was all a scary dream." Jasil shrugged.

"Until her father and brother ask her where her friend went. Then she will know it's all real." I spoke softly. She didnt deserve this. She doesnt deserve this. She shouldnt be forced into this world. "Damn it." I yelled, standing up. "This shouldn't be happening. She shouldnt be having to deal with this. She shouldnt be in our world. Do you think shes going to be able to handle all of this? Cause I dont. Shes pure. Shes not meant for our world."

"Give her the choice, son. Dont take it away from her. Give her the choice to be in our world or not. If shes willing to try or she knows she can handle it. Then we will figure out what happens from there."

I watched him as he walked away. Mother followed.

Is it really that easy?

"You need to come to terms with her knowing now." Jasil said. I glared at her. As the youngest she was the most stubborn.

"You need to shut your mouth. You are still a baby. You shouldnt be in this conversation." I snapped.

She flinched at my words before walking out of the room. Halfway down the hall she began to cry. I sighed.

"Shes right you know." Christine said.

"I know." I put my head I my hands. What am I going to do?

"You need to figure out what you're going to tell her. Before she does something you both will regret." Sam, Britneys mate said, before they both left the room.

Christine stood by the wall, watching me. before exiting.

Caleb, Grayson, and I were the only ones left in the room when I spoke. "Shes not going to trust me. I cant speak to her in public about this. Shes not going to let me speak to her alone."

"Then you dont. Do it at her house. Outside, away from ear shot." Grayson said.

"Tell her you owe her an explanation." Caleb added. "She will listen. She has too."

I nodded my head before standing.

"Rose knows about Ariel. Shes not going to stop coming after her. After us. We need to bring her down. Destroy her."

"We need to tear her apart and burn the pieces." Caleb smirked.

"Did you really just quote Twilight?" Grayson groaned.

"Yes I did. Jasil loves it for some reason."

"Jasil is a child." Grayson tsked. "She is still too young. Shes only been a vampire for what a year or two? Shes only 16 in human years. She hasnt even matured yet."

"Shes a baby." I grumbled. "Until she learns to be serious she shouldnt be treated seriously. She shouldnt be involved in anything involving Ariel or Rose. She could get Ariel or herself hurt."

"I'll talk to your father." Grayson nodded. Agreeing.

"Go to Ariel. You need to get this handled quicker than not." Caleb spoke.

"That's if she will even listen to me."

"She will. Believe me." Caleb smiled. His eyes glazed over. He was one of the special vampires. These vampires can see into the future. They can see what they want to see. When they want to see it. The only thing they cannot see is the death of the person they are glimpsing the future of. Sometimes, though, if a future changes drastically of someone they have been watching, they get hit with a vision that can last hours.

"Go, Damien."

I went.
