The Mate of Two: The Ruby Wolf Series

Chapter 21

Blake's P.O.V.

I headed for my office. Kameran had paid us a visit a bit early. We had planned to go to them. Which is still the plan. When Jeb mindlinked me telling me he was here I was surprised. I had been in the garden with Ariel. When I let her know I had a sudden meeting she smiled at me and said she was going to go back to our room to rest. I was silently thankful that she decided to do that herself. I didn't know if Kameran brought anyone else with him.

When I entered he was standing next to the window. His wife sat in one of the chairs in front of my desk.

"Kameran." I said. "I thought I was meeting you in three days."

"Yes well I have some important news." He said as he turned around to speak.

"Please, sit." I said as I headed for my chair.

He nodded and sat. "Damien has already known about Ariel. That's how Rose found out about her. She actually followed Damien around for a few weeks. One day he headed here. He watched her. Followed her around for a while. He entered her room. Her house."

Jax was screaming at me to let him out but I kept him at bay. I needed to stay calm even if I felt like I was going to explode with anger.

"How do you know this?" I asked him.

"Rose. I sent my son, Caleb, out to find her. She found him. She knew that none of us were against her. So she has no grudge against us. She understands how much control we do not have of our clan. Damien holds all of that control. There is only little we could do. The only reason I was able to come here was due to a fake trip that I had to plan with my wife. I do apologize for telling her about your mate. But I had to for this plan to work. Caleb only knows that I wanted to know how Rose was. Rose told him all of that on her own. Damien is already aware of her existence. Which means he could have very well been the one to create that fake life that your Luna saw."

"That would explain it better. She still needs to reject him and speak with her father. So we will still be there when the time comes. When were you planning on coming back from your trip?" I was calmer than what any of us expected.

"The end of the week. He thinks we are in Hawaii. I have a good friend there that will make sure our alibi checks out. We were there for a few days. Before we headed back here. He also knows that she was in an accident. That Rose caused it. He has been hunting her more viciously."

"Very well. I will push the arrival of ours to a few days after. I may even stay at a hotel knowing he already is aware of her."

"I wouldnt hold that against you. I will still prepare a room in case you decide to stay there."

"Of course. It honestly depends how he acts upon our arrival."

"That is fare."

"I'll have a room set up for you for tonight. Im sure you wouldn't want to stay here too long and be discovered."

"Yes you are right. We will be out before dawn. I'd like to just rest a bit. We left vehicles and came on foot."

After I got the Knights set up with a room I headed back to my office.

Jeb was waiting for me as I stepped in. After relaying what I was told, he shook his head. "We need to double the guards."

"Yes. But no. Think about it Jeb, if we doubled our guards. If we do anything that remotely looks as though we know anything about him coming for her. That will put us all in danger."

"We are already in danger! Whose to say he doesn't have people watching us. Or worse have werewolves who are actually loyal to that blood sucker who found their way into our territory!"

"I understand all of that, Jeb. But if we change anything big it could completely change his plan. Whatever plan it is. It will put us in more danger. Acting as though we are oblivious is the safer course."

"What about Guards for Ariel? We can't have her walking around alone and you can't always be right there beside her."

"I am aware."

"What if we paid someone to fake an attack on Ariel?" He said.

"How? We would have to make a show that no one hurts our Luna? I won't condemn anyone to that."

"What about finding a real criminal? We can talk to Chief Hunt. He knows about us. His family has been with our pack helping protect our secret for a long while. He could offer someone up to us. It'd be the perfect way. We can kill him in front of everyone and if there is someone who is working for Damien he will tell him that she is being heavily guarded now because of that incident."

"We will discuss more of this matter later. Right now I need to get back to her. She's very worried about the trip and I need to talk her through more of the Ruby Wolf history."

ARIELS POV

I was sitting in the library reading. The corner I was in was very well hidden. But soon there were two people standing a ways in front of me.

"So you are our Luna?" She scoffed.

I stayed silent. As I watched them both.

"She's not much of a talker. Smells human. You think she's the one?" The guy said sniffing the air with a smirk.

"Damien was pretty descriptive. She's who he is looking for."

My heart raced as I heard his name.

"Do we take her to him now?"

"I don't know he just said when she's alone, grab her. He showed me where. But that's it."

"Ah well."

They turned back to me. I didn't know what to do. I was pinned. How could he get people in this territory without anyone knowing they don't belong here?

"Ar?" I heard Blake's voice echo through the library. I let out the breath I didn't know I was holding.

"Over here" I managed to squeak out.

When I turned my attention back to them they had vanished.

"There you are." He smiled wrapping his hands around me.

"Blake-" I went into telling him what I saw and heard. Giving him their description and everything.

"Hm. I do not know them. I will let Jeb know so he can be on the watch for them."

"I thought he didn't know much about me, about where I was?"

"Things got complicated...." He said as he sighed. He pulled us to the couch and got me up to date on what has happened.

"So will I be put under guard watch?" I asked.

He took a minute to answer. "Yes... And no."

"I don't understand..."

"If we up our guards for the border or place guards with you. It will look bad. It could endanger everyone here."

"So I'm to stay where I won't get hurt. I just need to not be alone if I can help it."

"For now yes. I will stay with you as much as possible. But if I have a meeting then you'll be alone."

"What if I go with you every time?"

"If you want too. I could start showing you your Luna tasks. Maybe my grandmother can help you."

"Who is your grandmother?"

"You haven't met her yet. She lives in a cottage in the middle of our territory. She..... Became distant after what my parents did... Her mate, my grandfather, has been doing the best he can with trying to get her back. Maybe you'll be the key to helping her. I'll take you to meet them tomorrow."

"Okay." I smiled.

"Let go to our room.. Dinner is soon and I'd like to spend some time with you before something else happens."

I nodded and we headed for the door.

We had made it down the hall and almost to the stairs when guards ran in..

"Alpha! Luna! We are under attack!"

"By who?"

"Damien is here!" Kameron Knight said as he descended the stairs, his wife behind him.

"He came for your Luna." His wife spoke.

Blake pulled me up into his arms. "Get the women and children to the bunker NOW!" He ordered.

The Guard hurried into action as he ran out the door.

"Are you taking me to the bunker?" I asked as he ran down a hall.

"No."

"Alpha!" Jeb yelled as he came around the corner in front of us.

"Take her!" He said as he transferred me into Jebs arms. "RUN!"

"NO!" I yelled as I struggled to get out of his grip.

Blake came up to me and cupped my face. "Baby you have to go." His lips met mine as Jeb set me down. As soon as my feet hit the ground I moved closer to Blake. He pulled me up into his embrace. My legs wrapping around his waist.

"Don't leave me." I whispered once we pulled back from the kiss.

"Jeb will take you somewhere safe. I will come for you as soon as its safe. Please baby. You have to go."

"No! I'm not leaving without you!"

"Baby I have to go protect our people. You need to be protected as well. I need you to go. Please!"

Tears streamed down my face as I held onto him.

He kissed me once more before hands wrapped around my waist. Pulling me from him.

I watched as he ran back down the hall, away from me. Yelling to Jeb to protect me.

"Let's go Luna." He said as he set me down, just to lift me back up and took off running.

After ten minutes we stopped at a large painting. Jeb touched the bottom corner and it slid open. He stepped inside and flipped a light on before he touched the same corner and pulled his hand back before it shut.

He flipped the light back off. But not before I saw the long hall that looked to lead deeper into the house.

"We will be in a safe area in about 30 minutes. We don't even turn the light on. Its only on long enough to see for shutting the painting behind us. And sometimes none of us turn it on. Because we can see without it."

"Then why did you turn it on?"

"So you could see."

"Oh."

"That light can be seen through the painting with a trained eye. Damien's vision..."

"Can't he follow my scent?" I interrupted.

"Yes and no. My scent masks you. So does the wolfsbane spell that is in the back at my side. It was made for you. It will mask your scent completely. My scent will throw him off."

Everything goes silent for a while and his pace slows a bit.

"What is going on up there?" I asked. Knowing he was just speaking With Blake.

"Damien, he is looking for you.... And he is looking for Blake's parents. He knows about the council meeting. He knows about everything."

"What? Who told him?"

"My guess, its Kansto. He took off ten minutes before the distraction."

"Distraction?"

"Three women came running onto the territory. On the border. Causing everyone to go to the southern side. While 50 vampires came into the northern side. Damien being among them. They came in."

"No one has died right?"

"No one of importance."

I swallowed the lump in my throat.

"None of our pack died right?"

"No. Hence the no one of importance reply."

"Oh okay."

Blake's POV.

I ran down the hall away from her. I could feel her pain. But I couldn't do anything about it. I had to go protect my pack.

"Logan!" I yelled as he jumped across the lawn and shifted. Leading the four vamps to me.

Within seconds they were dead.

"How many left?" I asked him as he shifted back to his human form.

"12. But those are standing around the cottage your parents are in."

"He's trying to get two birds with one stone." I said as I headed for the cottage.

I called everyone to the cottage as I headed there myself.

Blake, we made it to your grandmothers cottage fine. But there is a problem... Damien is over here.

What!!??

I don't think he thinks anything of it. Because the house is spelled to outsiders. But he will see us if we try to make a run for the house.

I'll call my grandfather. He may be able to help.

Is there a way you can get her scent out?

There may be one..

Our sheets would be covered in her scent. Itd be the perfect distraction for them.

"Logan, I need you to go to my room. Take the sheets off my bed and hang them outside where the wind will hit them and blow the scent of them towards my grandmothers cottage. Then get out of there. I don't want any of my pack members killed tonight."

"Yes, Alpha." He said Turning and heading back towards the packhouse.

I was halfway to the cottage when Jebs voice rang through my head again

I don't know what you did. But it worked. A small breeze hit and the entire area smelled of the Luna. He took off towards you. Be careful.

Good. Get her into that house.

A smug smile crossed my lips at the fact that he fell for the trick.

"What is this?" I asked as I stepped into the clearing around the cottage.

Eric turned and looked at me. He was the only werewolf not shifted as I looked around.

"We have no idea." He said. "They all immediately came here. Your parents are still inside. I was told that this group had bypassed everyone just to take up guard here."

"Hmm. I may know why." I said as I smelled the air. He was close.

"You are protecting people who betrayed their family. Who betrayed their pack. I may not know why. But I will not allow them to leave here alive." I said as I stared at everyone of them.

"Neither will I." A sickening laugh echoed around us. I looked to the right of me and saw him.

"That was a dirty trick you played. Hanging her bed sheets up."

"Had to get you here some how, right. Now why are your vampires protecting them?"

"Oh they aren't protecting them. They are keeping them in there and keeping others out."

"You plan on killing them." I stated. But he answered it anyway.

"I do. They will be dying a very very pain filled death. Seeing as though my bride is no where in this pack I will continue with my second mission."

"You aren't touching my mate!" I hissed.

His response was to laugh. Which angeres my wolf more.

"Now step aside." He said as he made a move towards the cottage.

As much as I wanted to step back and let him do as he wanted. I couldn't.

"I can't let you.." I said.

He cocked his head to the side and smirked.

"Do you really think you can stop me?"

"Honestly, I could careless if you killed them. But the council will ask if I at least fought to defend them. My pack has no form of a relation to them anymore. They made their choices now they have to live with them. They can't hide behind me or this pack."

"If I may speak freely Alpha?" One of the Guard stepped forward.

"You may."

"We have had to talk some members in the pack down from touching them. They haven't been here that long but they are already wanting them gone. We will fight for those who have earned our respect and trust. I'm sorry Alpha but if you ask us to defend the former Alpha and Luna... We will not. We would rather take the punishment for going against your rule than to risk our lives for them."

I was happy they said this. That was all that I needed to step away and get to Ariel.

"Do as you please. Send for me before you finish them though. I have a few things to say to them before they die." I said looking at the Vampire devil.

"Of course. But do be warned, they won't be much left."

"I just need them to be able to hear me."

"Done. Now if you all will excuse me."

He walked through us all and headed into the cottage. My mothers scream of fear rang out around the entire clearing as my pack and I walked away. I headed straight for Ariel.

She threw her arms around me as soon as I stepped through the door.

"Hey , baby." I smiled as I held her.

"When will he leave?" Jeb asked me.

"I'm not sure. Right now... He is taking are of the traitors."

"We need to find someway for him to leave after if he doesn't."

"We will find a way somehow."

"If only your grandmother was able to help." He said.

"Help with what?" Her voice rang out like chimes.

"Grandma?" I turned around to face her.

"Hello sweet boy." She smiled, walking up to me. Her arms wrapped around me in a tight hug.

"Your grandfather told me that you found your mate. That she is very special."

"Your back?"

"I didn't believe him at first. I felt as though he was saying that to try to get me back from where I had gone after what your parents had done. But then I smelled you. The mate scent from you evident."

I smiled as she pulled away from the hug turning to Ariel.

"Now, as my new Granddaughter. You'll have to get used to this old witches ways."

"Huh?"

"My grandmother was a witch before being marked. She still is. But there's certain things she can and can't do. Seeing as though she is also a werewolf." I explained.

"Oh."

"Now what is it that you need help with?"

"The Vampire King is here. She is his mate as well. He came for her. But he can't find her. She is safe for now."

"Why is he still here then? He should have left." Grandfather said.

"Um... Well..."

"Why else is he here?" She asked.

"We had a couple of traitors come into the territory. Seeking shelter from him. We denied them a safe haven after finding out they were being hunted by him." I lied. Hoping my grandfather wouldn't catch on to the lie.

"Why is he here?" My grandfather asked again.

"For my parents...." I said hanging my head.

"They are here?"

"Yes.... They came here bringing the council. Damien came looking for her. Found them as well and right now he is torturing them."

"Take me to them." My grandmother said.

"Jeb.. Keep her safe." I said as my grandparents and I headed for the back door.

When we emerged into the clearing where the cottage stood. Damien stepped outside.

"I knew you'd be back. But I never expected you to bring your grandparents."

"Let my grandmother and grandfather in to say what they need please. I'm don't want to say anything to them anymore."

"As you wish." He laughed.

We watched as my grandparents walked in the cottage. Sadness was all I felt towards my grandmother.
