The Mark of an Alpha

Chapter 67

Coming home feels different. My pack did fine on their own. They did amazing without their alpha and beta.

Feather is overlooking the training as I walk out of the car.

"Alpha," she bows her head and steps away.

"I want a full report." I roll my shoulder, the drive here was a long one but leaving Hunter back at his territory seems to have taken its toll on me.

"Everything went smoothly except for the third day," she sighs. "We encountered a rogue sniffing around a perimeter. I'm sorry," she glances at me from the corner of her eye.

"You're sorry for what?" I arch an eyebrow.

"I decided without consulting you first," she lowers her head.

"What decision was that?" I nudge her.

"The rogue did not know where he was. He was seeking food and I stop the pack from going after him. He was a youngster. Still a pup. I allowed him to hunt and move on."

Feather the kind-hearted wolf.

"I left you in charge and you took initiative. Thank you," I smile at her as she looks up at me. "Those are the traits that I am looking for in my omega."

Her eyes widen.

"That's if you want the title."

Her big eyes blink at me but she does not say a word.

"Feather, you okay?"

"Oh my gosh," she squeals, "are you sure?"

"You are a worthy wolf. I just want you to know that it is not an easy job. I am the first female alpha, you will be the first female omega."

"Thank you so much, Alpha Blake. I will not disappoint you!" She hugs me as I pat her.

"I will let the elders and pack know that we have an omega. Now," I give her a big smile, "kick those boys ass."

"Always do." Feather runs off and I feel as if my team is finally complete.

I am officially a true alpha.

6 months later

Six months of craziness but it will end soon…hopefully.

My father’s office has become like a second home to me. I have spent more time in this room than anywhere else since I got back from the Moonlight Ball.

Hunter is back on his territory...well back on ′our′ territory.

He took me to meet his pack a few months back. Never in my two decades of walking this planet have I seen so many people be happy to see me.

Some of his elders thought he was never going to find someone to settle down with and they are happy that it is with someone that can handle him. I think they have it the other way around.

I also met Haley’s parents. They were happy for Hunter. Happy that he found someone and they treated him well. Hunter’s pack and mine clicked instantly as we introduced them at a bonfire.

My omega gave his pack a run for their money. She is eager to learn and take on any task that anyone puts before her. This made it easier for her to make friends in Hunter's pack.

Both our elders shared their stories with all the children and everyone seemed to get along.

The memory of our packs coming together brings me so much joy. I doubt that we could make it work if our packs do not get along.

At the moment I am staring at the territories and trying to decide how to split them for rounds. The more land we gain equals more trouble.

There is a ton of paperwork that is seeking my attention and to top it off I am in a constant battle with my wolf wanting to shift and run free for a couple of hours, time that I do not have so we both suffer.

Feather and Andrew take the north end of our territory patroling for anything suspicious and Hunter’s pack can take it from the creek.

The knock at the door makes me lift my eyes as a bulging stomach appears at my door.

“Melany!” She huffs, “Mel!”

“Angie!” I jump out of my chair and open up the door wider. Angie is catching her breath.

“What are you doing here?” She scorns playfully.

“I have a lot of work to do. What are you doing? You’re about to give birth to those pups and you’re coming up here.”

Angie’s hands rub around her belly as she smiles down at her stomach. “I wouldn’t have to come here if you would cooperate!”

Andrew is going to kill me if he knew about this.

“Fine, I’ll be down in a minute.” I smile at her and she takes it and nods.

“You better,” I do not want to mess with a hormonal pregnant woman, “or you’ll see my bad side.”

“No worries let me just finish up and I’ll help you.” Angie makes her way out of my office as I walk back to my desk sinking into the chair.

Angie has grown on me since the Moonlight Ball. She is my wedding planner and when she told me that she was pregnant I suggested that I find someone new. I would rather face an entire pack of rogues on my own than go through that again.

She exploded on me, cried hysterically, and to top it off she played the pregnancy card making me look heartless amongst my pack.

I gave in within minutes and told her that I would help her with whatever she needed. I did not know what I was getting myself into when I agreed to marry Hunter.

Flowers, food, dresses, invitations, color schemes, and the worse having a crazed pregnant woman breathing down my neck because of my lack of knowledge on all of this.

I get up from my desk finally letting it sink it that I am not going to get anything done and make my way down to the living room where Andrew and Angie are lounging around. Andrew is rubbing Angie’s swollen feet as she nags on.

“I swear Melany is going to make me pull out all my hair...I’m going to be bald by the time she walks down the aisle.” She shouts as her head is relaxed on the back of the couch and her eyes are staring off into space.

“That makes two of us!” I hiss as I walk towards them. Andrew gives me a sympathetic look.

She is way too excited about this wedding. Sorry!

She has an excuse for being so moody I’m just a grouch lately.

“I’m sorry Melany, I promise to behave,” she looks at me as I take a seat in the loveseat away from them.

“Okay.”

“Andrew, it is time for you to leave,” she motions for Andrew to head upstairs.

“I’m going for a run.” Angie nods and I want to run with him as well, release some tension that I am feeling but the look that Angie gives me tells me that that is not going to happen anytime soon.

I spent the next hour with Angie trying to decide where to seat everyone.

Is that even necessary?

Don’t speak your mind unless you want Angzilla to come out.

After everyone is seated Angie tells me that I had my last wedding dress fitting tomorrow in the morning. My wedding is less than a week away and I cannot wait to have it over with.

“So, do you know if Hunter is having a bachelor party?” She pops the question out of nowhere.

“A bachelor party? I don’t know, why?” Naked girls around him for his entertainment, I swallow down my throats dryness.

“Just,” Angie rubs her belly not looking at me, “I wanted to know. Andrew and Hunter are friends and if he were to have a party I know that Andrew would want to go.”

There is an unsettling feeling in the pit of my stomach. I do not want him to have that party but what if he wants it?

I have not seen Hunter in the last two weeks and I miss him like crazy. We both have a lot of business to attend to before we get married and he needs to be with his pack and I need to be with mine.

Angie clears her throat. “I shouldn’t have brought it up I’m sorry Melany.”

“It’s okay Angie,” I sigh. Honestly, you shouldn't have brought this up. Now my mind is going to go crazy with this.

“I want to ask you something and if I am crossing a line you can tell me.”

“What is it?” I glance over at her as my mind stays on the bachelor party.

“I was wondering why you never mated with Marcus?”

Why would she wonder that?

My lip pulls towards a frown. I heard that she was trying to get information out of Andrew and even he could not answer her. Sᴇaʀᴄh thᴇ Find ɴøᴠel.nᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

“He was your mate, right?”

Yes.

“Yes, he was my mate and if you must know I didn’t mate with Marcus because in the short time that I had him by my side he made me happy but a lot was happening at the same time. I wasn’t ready to be mated and I am so glad I didn’t. See what happen he left and now I am much happier than I was back then.”

“But let’s just say...” she looks at me and I nod for her to continue, “that Marcus never left and you were happy with him.” My face scrunches up in distaste.

“I don’t like where you’re going with this,” Angie holds up a finger telling me to give her minute.

“And Hunter shows up on your land, do you think you would have still fallen for him?”

“Why are you telling me this?” I groan and throw myself into the couch. She is seriously making my mind reel today.

“Because,” her frantic teary eyes engulf me, “I want to know if a mated person can fall for someone who isn’t their mate,” this is for her. She is worried about Andrew.

“Angie, Andrew wouldn’t fall for anyone else.” I start but then the tears falling stop me.

“How do you know that? You fell in love with Hunter and you found your mate.

“Yes I did,” I sigh as her tears rolling down her cheeks get bigger. “But I want you to know that Andrew has never been any happier in his life. He is excited about the babies that are coming and he doesn’t look at anyone the way he looks at you.”

“But it’s possible,” she sobs and grabs a couch pillow and covers her face as she cries out into the pillow.

For the love of god help me. I’m making it worse.

Opening up my mind link I seek out Andrew. Trees rushing pass fills my mind.

I can see Andrew stop in his tracks and head back to the pack house.

“Angie! Calm down,” I frantically think of an answer, “yes, I fell for someone who wasn’t my mate but that doesn’t mean that Andrew will. You need to trust your mate because if you can’t then how am I supposed to trust a man that was meant to be with someone else in the first place.” The words that hit me hard, “Shít!”

How am I suppose to keep Hunter happy when he wasn’t mine, to begin with?

Andrew bursts through the door naked and runs to Angie.

“Hey, hey, look at me. I’m here. Angie, sweetie, breathe please,” Angie is gasping for air from all the amount of sobbing she is been doing.

Andrew grabs her and lifts her into his arms. He kisses her forehead and mumbles to her soothingly. I stare as he takes her upstairs. My heart aches for Hunter as he can read my mind my phone rings.

Hunter

I read his name and do not hesitate to answer him, he does not let me utter a word, “I’m coming over,” he growls and then hangs up.

What’s the matter with me?
