Chapter 36
Some men need to learn that no means no!
I am not beating around the bush I want to be left alone.
Andrew's eyes connect with mine and he is by my side in a flash.
"Don't touch her," exasperates as he tries to measure up to the man before us.
Two arms wrap around me from behind and pull me away from the man and Andrew.
My wolf calms at this touch. It feels like home, like a place that I belong to. I feel better in these arms as if they were made to mold me into their body.
I turn and his golden eyes make me feel as if I am floating on air. Hunter is holding me tightly and I relish in his touch. My heart bursts in my chest.
“Back off!” I can hear the rumbling of his growl in his chest. His eyes darken as he looks at the man that just a moment ago held me. There is so much possessiveness in his gaze that I am taken aback.
“She’s with you?” The man asks rubbing his jaw his eyes are also darkening. His wolf wants to challenge Hunter.
“I don’t have to be with anyone. I said leave me alone so you leave me alone! Or you're going to have to answer to my wolf.” I seethe at the man and to my surprise, he flinches back.
The man stares deep into my eyes and I am not sure what he sees but he swallows down.
Claudius is in front of us in a blink of an eye, “What seems to be the problem? Erin,” Claudius stares at the man before us, and Erin looks uncomfortable. “Why are you bothering Alpha Blake and her guests.”
Erin looks at me and then back at Claudius.
“You’re Alpha Blake?” His eyes widen realizing that he messed with the wrong girl. "Alpha Blake is a female?"
"She sure is an alpha," Andrew chimes in with admiration, "a damn great alpha at that."
Yes, dumbass female alphas are possible!
“My apologies,” he bows his head but it is too late and I do not want to accept his apology.
"A girl does not need to be an alpha for you to accept when she says no," I growl, misogynist asshole.
“Alpha Hunter," Claudius glances up at Hunter, "I didn’t see you there.” Claudius looks down at me and his eyes do not miss a thing as they stare at Hunter’s arms around me.
“Two alphas!” Erin gulps as he looks over at Hunter. I can feel the heat radiating off of Hunter. His anger seems to be rising.
Erin tries to come close to us to apologize, “Back off!” Hunter growls at him pressing me closer to him.
“Erin, it is best that you leave. We’ll talk later.” Claudius states, but everyone in hearing distance knows that it is an order. There is a furious gleam in Claudius' eyes and Erin takes off without another word.
“Please enjoy the rest of your night and we’ll make sure that none of that happens again.” Claudius walks away as my eyes spot three other men leave their tables and walk behind him.
“Are you okay?” I turn to look at Hunter and he stares at me so much intensity. My heart melts he cares about me and wants to protect me.
“Yes, I can take care of myself you know.”
“Why can’t you accept that someone wants to look after you?” I shrug. I turn to look at Andrew and I see that Andrew is leading Angie back to the table as Ken is walking behind them with some other girl.
“Why are you,” I jab my finger at his chest, “stalking me?”
“Melany, I am being serious!” He frowns at me.
“Why do you have to be so serious? That man killed my buzz and now you want to be serious. We’re in a club and I promised my best friend that I was going to have fun...so let’s have some fun!”
He sighs and grabs my hands his thumb running over my knuckles. “Let’s start over.”
“Okay,” I smile at him.
“You look beautiful,” he says and I look him over. He is wearing a black button-up shirt with dark jeans making him look older.
“You are looking mighty handsome Mr. Adrian Hunter.” I walk away from him and walk towards our table. That is when I hear the commotion.
“He’s an alpha!” A girl squeals as she shoulder bumps her friend. Her friend is staring at Hunter as if he was an angel that just fell from heaven.
“Wow, he is hot!” She gushes back at her friend.
“Those eyes are to die for.” I push through trying to ignore what they are saying.
I feel his arms snake around my waist as he pulls me closer to him. His chin rests on my shoulder as we walk to the back table. I inhale his scent for a moment, this man will be the death of me.
“Two alphas together, that should be against everything in nature.” My eyes snap to the side and I try to see who said that.
Don’t let them ruin your night!
My wolf wants to ignore everything and enjoy the time that we have with Hunter. I walk to the table and sit down. Ken is making out with the blonde and Andrew and Angie are having a full-on conversation, Angie has a huge smile on her face.
“Is there anything that I can get you both?” Paula is back at our table.
“Can I get a scotch on the rocks, please,” I sigh and sink further into the seat. Hunter sits next to me and puts his arm around me.
“Actually can we have two glasses of water, please,” Paula looks at both of us unsure of what to do, “Just the waters.” Paula nods her head and walks away quickly.
“What the hell, Hunter?” I groan.
“I wouldn’t take you for a scotch girl.” His lips are set in a stern line as I roll my eyes.
“I feel like I need something strong and I’ve never had it before but it sounds strong.” I take a deep breath.
“What’s wrong?” He leans closer to me so that I can hear him over the music and I shrug not wanting to talk about it. “Melany, tell me!”
My eyes scan the table and there are just too many people here for us to have this conversation.
Paula is back with our waters and her eyes are glued to Hunter. My eyes narrow on her and she looks away quickly. Hunter signals for her to get closer and I stare at him shocked.
Hunter whispers in her ear and she blushes and nods taking a step back. Hunter slides out and he turns to me holding out his hand for me. Placing my hand within his he pulls me out of my seat and he leads us through the people.
Heading to the other end of the club Paula opens up a door leading us in.
“This is the private table Sir Claudius has reserved for you, Alpha Blake.” The room is dark with one light hanging from the ceiling that dimly lit the table.
Paula leaves and it is just Hunter and I. I take a seat in the booth and scoot over giving more than enough space for Hunter as he takes a seat.
“What wrong? You’re not happy to see me?” He has an impassive expression but his eyes are what usually reveal his feeling, at the moment his eyes are not showing any emotion.
“Of course I’ve missed you, I’ve missed you so much that it hurts.” I take a deep breath. “But I want to know what are we? We just met and I already feel lost without you and what they were saying is true...we’re against the laws of nature.”
I found my mate. He found his mate. Two alphas should not be allowed to be together.
“Hey look at me,” Hunter scoots closer to me his elbow on the table and his other arm on the back of my seat as he turns and stares at me. I look at him and he grins at me, “you missed me so much that it hurt?”
“Is that all that you heard?” My jaw clenches.
“That’s all I want to hear and the rest doesn’t matter. We’re two people that enjoy each other’s company. The nature crap is stupid being werewolves alone is against the laws of nature so that’s been a problem since birth.”
It sinks in and my throat tightens as laughter bursts out of me. “I didn’t think of it that way.”
“Stop overthinking it and stop listening to other people’s stupidity. As of what we are...you can call us whatever you want. The ball has been in your court since the first night I helped you fall asleep.” I look down and smile.
Seems as if Marcus made a great choice by leaving you since you found someone way better.
“Thank you for everything Hunter. Let’s let time decide our course.” He smiles slowly.
“Now let’s have some fun.”
Hunter gets out and I follow him. He walks to the door and turns around and looks down at me.
“I’ve been wanting to do this since I saw you tonight.” His arms wrap around my waist pulling extremely close to him. My chest against his as all my weight rest on his forearm and my hands press against his hard chest his lips gently come down on mine. My arms wrap around his neck pulling him closer.
His lips mold into mine as I let him have his way. He is caring and gentle with me as if afraid to hurt me. He slowly moves away and then softly pecks my lips.
“We need to go or else we’ll stay here for the rest of the night.”
I pout, “Fine.” My eyes go to his lips and he has red all over them. “You have lipstick on your lips.”
He shrugs, “Your lipstick is smeared.” My hands go up to wipe it off but Hunter grabs them. “It lets people know that we have someone on our minds and lips.” He smiles and I smile stupidly at him, “Time to dance.”
“You know how to dance?” I question.
“No, but if I’m dancing with a great dancer no one will be looking at me.”
“Then we’re both screwed.” He laughs and turns opening the door. Without hesitation, he pulls me onto the dance floor.
The DJ is playing The Night Out by Martin Solveig. Hunter starts moving and being honest he is a great dancer. I sway and move my shoulders to the music. Someone catches my attention behind Hunter.
Andrew is dancing with Angie and he has a huge goofy smile on his face as he looks at me.
What?
He points to his mouth and then looks over at Hunter giving me a thumbs up.
Even though my day started dull he changed my night. He makes my days so much brighter.
Hunter turns around to look at who I communicating with and he shakes his head as a smile spreads across his lips.
"I swear your best friend seems to be quite smitten," he chuckles into my ear as watch the way he holds Angie. She seems happy in his arms.
"They both do." I smile.
