Chapter 35
It has been over a week.
Nine days to be exact.
It has been nine days where I could not sleep because of my thoughts of Hunter invading every possible space in my mind making me miss him so much more.
The pain is numbed by the stress of leading a pack. Stress that I am not made for this but that there is a reason why I am still here.
Andrew is stuffing his face with a sandwich as I sit at the dining table waiting for him to finish so we can go out for a run.
Running is the only distraction that I have from Hunter since I let my wolf take over and she lets her animalistic senses take over.
“Stop staring at your phone.” He says as he swallows down the remnants in his mouth. My eyes go back to him and I scowl.
“I am not staring at my phone I was just dozing off, okay!” I am looking at my phone like an idiot.
“Come on Red, it’s Friday let’s do something!” Andrew has been begging me to go out with him and the pack.
“What are you going to do?” I might consider his distraction.
“Let’s go to the club! You love to dance.” I do like to dance.
“I don’t know.” I sigh. I do not feeling like going out I just want to stay in. There is something unappealing about being surrounded by people at the moment.
You sound like a granny! We’re going out and that’s final.
Look at you all bossy!
Andrew takes another bite of his sandwich.
Well, you’ve been in meetings all week long and you never sleep. Are you turning into a vampire?
“Shut up!”
It’s settled then we’re going out!
Andrew insists that I look my best tonight. He wants me to get back into the swing of things.
I'm an alpha but I am still young. Work hard, play hard.
Even before the mess known as Marcus came into my life I was never one to dress up and go out. I am a casual and comfortable kind of girl.
Clothes fly out of my closet and once there is nothing left I turn to look at my bed. I have nothing to wear. My bed is piled high with clothes.
A black shirt sits high on the mountain. My fingers skim over it but my wolf rejects it.
Come on, live a little.
I don’t know what else I can wear. All my clothes are for training or staying at home.
Mel, there is someone at the door for you!
Andrew’s mind chimes in and I stare at my door.
Who?
Come down and see.
My heart beats hard against my chest as I practically run down the stairs. Andrew has the door wide open and a man is standing there. He is holding a bouquet of red roses and two boxes.
“What’s this?” I stare at the boxes and then turn to the man at my door.
“Are you Melany Blake?” The man says looking at me up and down.
“Yes.”
“These are for you.” He hands me the roses and then the boxes, “the gentleman already signed this delivery so have a nice day.” The man walks away and I stare at as the door closes behind him.
“What the-?” I look at the roses and I see a note attached to them. Andrew is faster than me and grabs it.
“This says it’s for Melany!” He opens it and he smiles at me, “handwritten and everything.”
“Andrew, give it back.” Andrew hands me the note and takes the roses saying that he is going to put them in some water. I walk upstairs with my two boxes and note in my hands.
Putting the boxes on my bed I sit down and stare at the note. I open it up and read it:
Dear Melany,
I talked to Andrew and he said that you’re going to go out with them tonight. That’s good, have fun. I sent you something if you have nothing to wear. Enjoy your night!
Yours truly,
Alpha Hunter
I smile at the note and then turn to look at the boxes. I open the bigger rectangular one. There is a black dress. Grabbing the fabric I pull it up and see that it is a sweetheart cut dress. The dress is beautiful. Something catches my eye in the box the dress is not the only thing inside.
There is a beanie with another note. The beanie is not mine, it is a grey one. I grab the note:
I thought it was only fair if you got hold of my favorite beanie. ~Hunter
I grab the beanie and pull it close to my nose and smell it, inhaling deeply. His scent is all over it, I feel intoxicated with his scent. My wolf seems to be in cloud nine. I put it away in my dresser. There is a knock at my door.
Andrew walks in, “Get ready so we can go. I see that clothes won’t be a problem.” His eyes dart to the box on my bed.
“I guess not.” I give him an all-knowing look and he knows exactly what I am thinking. He told Hunter about tonight but how did he get this dress in such short notice?
I put the second box on my dresser as I get ready for tonight.
The Darkness is a club that is both werewolf and human-friendly. The owner, Claudius, found out that the Alpha of the Moonless Pack was coming so he went all out for me.
Andrew opens up my door in front of the clubs entrance and the bouncer stops the flow of people. Andrew helps me out and the bouncer opens the door letting everyone with me in without a hassle.
“Alpha Blake, you should go out with us more often,” Angie beams at me.
Even though I have not used heels in a long time they feel like second nature. Striding along with my pack Claudius stops us right before the bar.
“Alpha Blake,” he gives me his Colgate smile. He is a dusty black hair, tan, and muscular man. His eyes darken a bit showing me how much control he has over his wolf. “Never in my entire life have I seen such a beautiful alpha.” He takes my hand in his and kisses the back of it.
“Thanks?” I pull my hand back gently and he releases it.
“If there is anything that you need don’t hesitate to ask we have the best tables reserved for you one in our private area and one on the dance area.”
The music is bumping and I want to have a fun night. “We’ll take the one in the dance area.” Claudius snaps his fingers and there is a blonde blue-eyed girl by his side in seconds.
“I am Paula and I will be attending to your needs this evening.” She smiles at us before looking over at Claudius and bows her head a bit. He gives her a small nod and she seems relieved that she did something right.
“Take them to their table and take very great care of them,” Claudius says as he smiles goodbye.
Paula leads us to a huge table in the back where we can see everyone. She takes our orders and runs along to get what we want.
“Well, Hunter sure knows how to dress you.” Andrew looks out in the crowd and some males are staring at me.
The dress hugs my curves and ruffles at the bottom. My black eyeliner makes my eyes grey and my red lipstick goes with my hair. My hair is straight as a ruler and it covers my bareback.
Paula comes back with our drinks and we start the night off with alcohol. After our first drink, the pack keeps them coming. The mated couples go off and the single she-wolves were picking off one by one being brought out to the dance floor.
Andrew looks over to Angie and me, “Come on you two let’s dance.”
Angie practically jumps out of her seat. I follow them not wanting to be the loner at the table.
“I love this song!” Angie screams at us.
“I’ve never heard of it!” Andrew tells her.
“Houdini by Foster the People!” I bob with the music and before I know it the alcohol has settled in and I am feeling a good buzz.
My hips start swaying to the music and for that moment I let myself be happy.
The commotion from behind me makes me turn back and see a guy leaning by the bar his eyes set on me. I turn around and Andrew and Angie are dancing nearby. I take a step back giving them room when I feel some arms roughly wrap around me the scent of alcohol fills my nostrils.
“Well aren’t you a tease tonight!” The voice is slurred and unattractive. He feels out of place and I know exactly why, because he is not Hunter.
“Get off of me!” I snap as I turn to look at the man and it is the same one from the bar.
“Don’t act like that,” he smirks at me and walks closer and grabs my waist roughly and pulls me into him.
That asshole better let you go!
“Act how? Like I’m not interested,” he gives me a slight nod. “Maybe this says it better.”
A growl erupts from behind me as my wolf is ready to lose it. Fist clenched my fist connects with his jaw.
He howls in pain as he stumbles back my wolf is close to the surface and if he touches me one more time I will not stop her.
