The Magic Door

Chapter On the Road

Peter and Raine were walking in the tall grass just as the wind gently blew a nice cool breeze on their faces. Peter closed his eyes and felt the nice breeze while taking in the nice smell of lavender that is in the air. Opening his eyes while looking up at the cloudy sky as he saw something moving in the clouds. Peter squinted his eyes to see better and he saw whales in the sky that looked like they were just swimming in the sky. Raine noticed Peter was looking up at the sky so she would look up also and smile when she saw the whales.

“It’s whale season.” Said Raine and Peter look at her. “Every year they come around and make the sky full of wonderful colors. It’s prettier when the sun goes down.”

“Wow, maybe we could see it on our way to the queen.” Peter said with a smile while Raine was smiling and nodding.

“Yes, we could. Now let’s get going on the trail. The queen’s castle is about a three-day walk.” Raine told Peter as he nodded, and they walked again. (Even though if Raine could fly with him, they would be there in a day and a half, but she can’t carry him because her wings are not strong enough to carry someone else.)They walked past the tall grass and into the forest where fauns, centaurs, and other creatures live. With one step of Peter’s foot on the forest floor, everything went silent. No birds chirping, no movement, nothing just dead silent. Peter looked around if he could see anything that could make any noises or anything that was living, but there was none. Raine also notices how quiet the forest is, she scans the place and sees no life whatsoever or anything that can prevent noise. Raine stays close to Peter just in case something happens and she can use her magic to scare whatever is coming to them. Peter saw her actions and his grip on the sword while being ready for anything. (Lucky for Peter he took sword lessons back in his world.) Both of them look around, then slowly walk into the forest. During that time, they kept their guard up for anything to happen. Just then a bird chirps and they whip their heads to the sound of the bird before relaxing as the bird looks at them before flying away. Then the forest came to life, the sounds of other birds making noises, leaves on the ground being restless by the movement of something walking on the ground. Raine calmed down and smiled as she knew the forest was alright to walk through. (She was thinking of turning back and taking another path to get to the Queen’s castle.) They walk normally while Peter looks around and he sees what he always wanted to see in real life, but he knows they don’t exist in his world. Centaurs. There were two of them and they looked like they were hunting something. Peter stopped and watched them as they had their bows and arrows out and ready, Raine noticed Peter stopped and looked where he was looking. Raine sees the two centaurs as they head off somewhere Raine knows it’s time to get to moving faster. She knows some creatures dislike stragglers in their forest. With a nudge to Peter, he looks at her as she moves her head forward, telling him to keep going. Peter took one last look at the centaurs as they were out of sight before heading off. On their walk in the forest, the trees look lively as they sway with the wind and how the leaves are falling down from the treetops as it was showing winter is coming near in Zarlakarla. Looking at the beauty of the forest with the colors of the leaves are coloring the grassy floor, the tree barks are white and black spots. The birds flew around while making bird noises and movement in the leaves as there were some deers are eating the green grass. Peter felt so ease in the forest, they kept on walking while Raine’s wings dragged on the ground as she walked. They kept on walking till they made to an open area with the sun shining down from the tree tops and there were flowers everywhere in the open area. There are lilies, tulips, and orchid and all such many colorful flowers everywhere and the smell was very pleasant as they can smell the flower scents. Raine walked ahead a little and kneel and place her hands over the flowers. A yellowish glow formed around her hands as the flowers twirled a bit like they were dancing. Peter watched with amazement and with a smile, walking up to Raine and kneel as he look down at the flowers. Peter notice that there are little people like mushrooms are working under the flowers. They are moving little pebbles here and there and some are taking care of the stems of the flowers and little houses that are made out from the flowers itself. Raine smile and move her hands away as there was fresh new grass while the mushroom people gathered and grabbing the fresh grass before heading home. Peter smile at this and look at Raine while she was looking down at the little mushrooms people. Raine turn her attention to Peter as they smile at each other than stood up and walk around the open area and head back on the path that lead the way to the queen’s castle. Walking again, but this time the day was turning to midday, and they were still in the forest and Raine was looking for a place to make camp.

“We should make a camp tonight.” Said Raine while Peter agreed with her.

“Yeah, I can get some wood as you find a place to make camp.” Peter told Raine as she nodded and headed off to find a good place to make camp.Peter was getting logs and twigs for the campfire till he came across a weird little creature. It was a small creature. It has a chinchilla tail, big ears like a mouse, rabbit’s feet, small round (fat) body with chubby cheeks, and a humanized face with a dog snout. The small creature looked at Peter as Peter looked back till the small creature took off and dive into a small hole in the ground. Peter shook his head and head off to where Raine was at once he got there. Raine made a dome like a hut with big leaves and two beds. One looks like a human and the other is like a bird nest. Peter drops the logs and twigs and starts making the fire. While Peter was making the fire, Raine headed off to get something to eat. There was a small pond that was nearby and Raine went there to catch some fish. Using her powers, the water slowly lifted and there were two nice big fish swimming in the flouting water. Reaching out, and grabbed the two fish before letting the water go back down into the pond. Raine headed back with two fish in her hands and Peter got the fire started.

“Give me two sticks.” Said Raine while Peter grabbed two sticks and handed them over to her as she grabbed them.Raine places the fish on each one so it can cook over the fire. Place it down on the ground and move it over the fire as it leans there, and the fish cooked. Peter and Raine sat down and watched the fire burning while the fish was slowly turning brown and the smell of cooked fish was breezing into the air. Peter’s stomach growled from the smell as it has been awhile since he has ever had food from this world. While they waited they both of them looked up at the sky (as there was a nice opening to see the sky) there were the whales dancing in the sky. The sky changed colors and it looked like fireworks going on in the sky but without any sound. This amazed Peter and has a wide smile planted on his face. After a while of watching the whales having fun, the sky turned dark and the stars were out. The fish was a nice crispy brown and Raine reached over, grabbing both the sticks with the fish on them. Handing one to Peter as she holds the other one in her hand before taking a bite out of it. Peter looks at the fish before taking a bite as the juicy of the inside of the fish and the nice crispy of the skin taste dancing over his taste buds. One bite after the other the fish was gone and Peter was full as he put his stick in the fire while Raine kept her stick and poke the fire with it. (Raine’s done before Peter.)

“Get some sleep. Tomorrow we will pass the waterfall of youth and then the mountains of the dwarf kingdom.” Raine told Peter, while he nodded. Peter lay down in his bed while covering himself with a big leaf that gave off some good amount of warmth to keep him warm during the night. Peter falls asleep really quick while Raine was still up and looking around the darkness of the forest. Raine stayed up a bit before laying down in her nest and fell asleep with her wings wrapped around her to keep her warm. Both Peter and Raine slept till the next sunrise came the next morning.
