Part 2 Chapter 13 - Elijah
My wolf is growling and trying desperately to push his way to the front of my mind. He knows that as much as this might look like a civilised breakfast, it is more akin to dining with the devil himself. At any moment he could suddenly turn on us and with his powers, there would be very little I could do to save those around me.
I was particularly worried about the young girl. She didn't look much older than four or five but, even so, I couldn't sense any trace of a wolf in her. She was completely out of place here and so much more vulnrable than any of the rest of us. Yet she seemed to be unaware of the threat which Arthur posed as she used her pieces of apple to build a house-shaped structure on her plate.
Arthur coughed to grab my attention.
"I guess you are probably wondering who she is. She is my daughter and her name is Cora." The smile he gave me as he spoke was the first genuine smile I had seen from him.
As Arthur didn't have a mate that could only mean one of two things, the most plausible of which being that he had managed to get some random human pregnant. Although it wasn't impossible to get a werewolf who wasn't your mate pregnant, it was very difficult. The woman's wolf would prevent a pregnancy from anyone other than her mate unless her wolf was being suppressed.
"I always wanted children but without a mate, it wasn't easy to fulfil that dream. Her mother was a werewolf who I borrowed from a nearby pack, but unfortunately, the process of suppressing her wolf meant that my daughter was born without a wolf."
The detached manner in which he was talking about abducting a woman and forcing her to bear his child made me feel sick. There was another problem too, if he had suppressed the mother's wolf with silver then Cora should have been born with a wolf. He must have done something to her that was a lot more drastic and knowing him, horrific.
"It is a shame but that is why I need Diana. I need an heir to take over this pack and that can't be human."
Diana shuddered as she continued to play around with the fruit on her plate, cutting them into smaller and smaller pieces. Arthur didn't seem to notice that there was anything wrong but if I didn't keep him distracted it would only be a matter of time. He paid far too much attention to my mate, I couldn't wait to make him pay for that.
"Is her mom here somewhere?" I asked.
"No, I sent her back to her pack once she gave birth. I don't know what happened to her after that."
Across the table Diana's brother rolled his eyes and started mumbling complaints under his breath. Diana's mom tried to get him to calm down, holding onto his arm and whispering something into his ear. He didn't seem to want to hear what she had to say though, he pulled her hand away from him and threw a stern look in her direction.
"Why should I stay quiet? Dad's always telling us that we are better than everyone else and we don't have to worry what they think of us."
"Orian." Diana's mother shouted in horror.
Everyone at the table was looking at him, but Arthur was the only one who didn't seem shocked by what he was saying. It was no coincidence, they sounded like his words coming out of Orian's mouth after all. Arthur must have spent years influencing the boy to make sure that he came around to his way of thinking.
It was going to take us a great deal of effort once we got him home to counteract that level of brainwashing. I would find some way of managing it though, I had to for Diana's sake. She had already missed out on so much with her family, I would do anything if it meant that I could give a piece of that back to her.
"Mom, why do you try to resist when it is so obviously true? We should be ruling over all of them rather than trying to fit in. You know this as much as I do." Orian told his mom in an exasperated tone. Diana was tense beside me and I could feel how close she was to snapping through our bond.
"You're right my son," Arthur said, triumphantly.
"He is not your son, he has nothing to do with you," Diana growled.

Everyone around the table fell silent and turned their attention towards Arthur. Like me, they were all expecting him to lash out or retaliate in some way, but he didn't. He continued to sip his coffee as though this wasn't the most surreal breakfast that we had ever had to sit through.
"There's no need to be jealous, sweetheart. I'm not going to neglect you once we are mated, you will always be my priority."
Arthur was looking at Diana with a tender expression but Diana looked as though she wanted to throw up. She dropped her eyes back down to her plate and started moving the food around the plate again.
"Are you worried about the spell? You haven't eaten much this morning." He remarked.
"I erm," Diana started before being interrupted by her mom.
"She told me that she was feeling a little unwell when I went to check on her earlier."
Arthur immediately dropped his cutlery and rushed around the table to crouch beside Diana. He started sniffing her and touching her skin in a manner that made me feel very uncomfortable. I started to push my chair back but Diana's mom lifted her hand to stop me from doing something impulsive. The alpha in me wanted to ignore her warning but the more rational parts of my brain told me that I had to bide my time.
"She's right, your skin feels a little warm. I think you might be getting ready to go into your first heat."
He pulled her chair towards him, caging her in the seat with his arms. There was a look of lust in his eyes, just from the thought of my mate in heat. I should take his eyes out of his head for looking at her like that.

"Would you like me to take you upstairs so that I can make you feel better?" Arthur asked.
Before I had a chance to even try to calm my wolf down, a huge growl tore out of my throat and I wasn't the only one. Diana growled as she pushed Arthur away from her with enough force to send him crashing into the dining table. The table buckled under the force and split almost into two pieces.
Diana's mom picked up Arthur's daughter and started slowly edging towards the door. She tried to call for Orian to join her but he was too distracted by what was going on to notice.
My heart was beating quickly. I didn't know what Arthur would do to Diana once he had time to recover, but I knew one thing for sure. I was going to stand in his way if he tried to hurt her.
"That was uncalled for." Arthur groaned as he pulled himself to his feet and dusted down his clothes.
Diana was on her feet now, her back was straight but she was shifting her weight from foot to foot. She was trying to look confident and brave but I could see past her confident exterior. Her heart was beating just as fast as mine was and her eyes kept flickering towards the door.
"You could just have told me that you weren't ready to have me in your bed. But if you are going to act like a child then I will treat you like one."
He looked over to the door, ready for his puppets to come in and take us away. But after a few seconds of waiting nobody had come in and a troubled look came over Arthur's face. He mumbled something under his breath then walked out of the room.
There must be something wrong, I didn't have time to worry about that. This was the first time he had left me unattended since the moment I arrived here and I intended to take full advantage of it. I took hold of both Diana and Orian by the arm and took off towards the door, dragging them both behind me.
