The Lost Female Alpha

Chapter 52

When I got back into the house my mom was waiting for me in the hallway. She had a few more grey hairs than I remembered and there were a few more wrinkles around her eyes. But other than that she was exactly as I remembered her. Tears started to pool in my eyes. I had spent most of my life believing that my mom was dead and yet here she was, she was stood right in front of me. It was completely overwhelming. I ran over to where she was standing and threw my arms around her, letting my tears overflow and run down my cheeks.

"I missed you so much." I said between sobs.

"I missed you too Diana. I never stopped loving you and I am so proud of the women you have become. I hope you will always remember that." She replied, holding me tightly.

I couldn't tell you for sure how long we stayed like that but when we finally let go of each other most of the vampires had vanished. The few that remained were now around the outskirts of the room, talking amongst themselves. "Maybe we should order some food." Mark suggested. I could hear the exhaustion in his voice. I agreed without hesitation. It had been a long day for all of us, comfort food was exactly what we needed.

We made our way into the dinning room where Elijah started putting together a food order for us. He was holding his phone in one hand while holding onto my hand with his other hand, running his fingers over the back of my hand. My mom looked over at him with a mixture of sadness and awe.

"I almost forgot how content the bond makes you feel. I am happy you found each other so early in life but it makes me miss your dad so badly." She told me, she looked as though she might start crying at any moment.

"What happened to dad?" I asked. I wasn't sure that I wanted the answer. I hadn't felt his presence like I had my mom's when I tried searching for Arthur. That probably meant that he was no longer alive, but I had to know what had happened, even if it hurt to hear it.

"They took him when they took me. Arthur kept him alive for a few years so that he could have control over me but a couple of years ago he tried to help us escape. Arthur took his life as a penalty."

Her words made me feel guilty. I had spent years thinking that they were dead and not even trying to look for them. If I had looked for them sooner then maybe I could have done something to stop my dad from getting killed. Her suffering was all my fault.

"I know what you are thinking and you need to stop." My mom exclaimed, shaking me out of my pity party. "What?" I replied.

"You are blaming yourself for what happened to your dad. I don't need to read your mind to know that, it is written all over your face." I tried to shake my head to deny it but I knew it was no use. She had the same gift I did and she could tell exactly what was going on in my head.

"I am glad that Christian and Kerry followed my instructions. Arthur wanted you to come looking for us, he would have encouraged it if he could have located you earlier. If he met you before you met your mate then he would have marked and mated you against your will."

Elijah growled. He pulled me onto his lap and held me close to his body for comfort, taking a couple of deep breaths of my scent to calm his wolf.

I knew my mom was right in what she said about Arthur. It was the reason that he needed me to come to him willingly, now that I was marked and mated by another alpha my wolf was stronger. I might be able to reject a forced mark, it would hurt like hell but I could still probably manage it.

Even knowing this didn't make me feel any better about what had happened to my dad. I still felt as though I should have done more to try to save him. To save both of them.

"I hope you killed the fucker." Elijah growled at Mark. His eyes were glowing with his wolf's rage, I was surprised that Mark was able to stand his ground against that. I suppose being a vampire helped him to hide his emotions from us.

"That was what I was trying to tell you earlier, he wasn't there." Mark confirmed.

Elijah growled and buried his face into my neck but signalled for Mark to continue.

"It felt as though they were expecting us. Arthur was not on the territory and neither were any other high ranking members of the pack." Mark replied.

"That is because Arthur didn't have any high ranking pack members, he killed them all years ago. He heard about your forces approaching and worked out what was happening a few minutes before you arrived at the pack. You probably only missed him by seconds." My mom replied.

Her face was completely blank, as was her mind. I didn't have time to wonder about what she was hiding from me because at that moment our food arrived. A handful of omegas walked into the room carrying pizza boxes from one of the restaurants nearby and plates.

My stomach rumbled loudly, causing everyone to look at me. It wasn't my fault, the food smelt so good and I hadn't eaten anything since my late breakfast. Even then I hadn't managed to eat all of it. I had spent most of the day being too worried about what was going on with the pack to eat or drink anything but now I was really starting to feel the effects of my hunger.

Once the food was placed on the table I wasted no time digging in. I picked up a plate and started loading it up with pizza, I was back in my seat and stuffing my face before most of the people at the table had even started filling their plate. "Whoa, do you plan on leaving some for the rest of us?" Felix joked as he and Ava sat down with us at the table. I had been so focused on the food that I hadn't even noticed the two of them walk into the room.

A few people around the room started giggling and Felix's words, including my mom. At any other time I might have made some kind of comment in response but right now I was too hungry and this food was too good. I wasn't about to let him take away any of my enjoyment.

"Hmmmm, I think her body might be getting ready to go into heat." My mom told everyone. I shuddered at the thought, that was the last thing I needed right now.

There was already enough gossip about Elijah and I flying around the pack, I really didn't want to add to it by going into heat. The whole pack would know exactly what was happening when we locked ourselves in our room and didn't leave for a few days. They would then spend the next few months searching for any signs of pregnancy.

At least I had an IUD fitted years ago. The last thing I needed was to stand up at my graduation with a visible baby bump. I am sure the pack would love that but the level of gossip would be almost unbearable to deal with.

"That is a shame, I was really looking forward to meeting my grandchildren. I guess I will have to wait a little longer." My mom added after reading my mind. Now I could see why Elijah didn't like it when I did that, it felt like such an invasion of my privacy.

"I still have a couple of days to convince her to remove that thing." Elijah purred. He leaned forward and started to kiss my neck, running his teeth gently along the length of my neck and down onto my shoulder. "What?" I asked.

"You heard me. I want that thing out of you so I can put our children in you." His voice sounded husky with desire. His voice alone was enough to arouse me but there was no doubt that his words were also having an effect on me as well. I clamped my thighs together and hoped that nobody else at the table would notice the scent of my arousal.

'You like that idea I see. Finish your food honey because in a couple of minutes I will throw you over my shoulder and carry you upstairs so we can practise.' He told me over mindlink and I had no doubt that he would make good on that threat.
