The Lost Female Alpha

Chapter 35

I laid on Elijah's chest listening to the sound of him breathing and his steady heart beat for the next few hours. Even though I told him that meeting Arthur was just a nightmare I couldn't shake the feeling that there was more to it than that. Part of me was scared that if I closed my eyes I would find myself right back there in that horrendous bed with him.

I watched as the room became lighter over the next couple of hours and the house slowly started to wake up around us. I could hear people moving around and I could even smell breakfast being prepared in the kitchen. I tried to wriggle my way out of Elijah's arms but he gripped me tighter and started to growl slightly.

"You're not going anywhere." He growled seductively, sending chills of excitement through my whole body. He pulled me on top of him, I could feel his erection pressing against me. He ran his fingers through my hair and pressed his lips against mine.

After a few seconds I pulled away, breathless. As much as I wanted to continue what he had started, we had a lot to do today. Not that I was looking forward to any of it.

"We should probably get ready," I suggested. Although I was hoping that he would completely ignore my objections and continue anyway.

"Probably, but I would much rather stay here with you." He told me.

He put his hand firmly on the back of my head and pulled me towards him until our lips met once more. I started to run my fingers through his hair gently tugging it when we were rudely interrupted by someone opening the door to our

room.

I quickly adjusted the covers over us. As much as I resented the intrusion I didn't want whoever was interrupting us to get killed because they saw too much. Once my modesty was protected I turned towards the door.

Ryker was standing in the doorway. He was looking at me and Elijah as though his world was ending. There was no chance that Elijah hadn't noticed the way Ryker was looking at us. I just had to hope that he didn't realise why he was so upset, otherwise Ryker was in serious danger of getting his head bitten off.

"My dad told me what you did," Ryker said. He had apparently developed a death wish. That's just great.

"Why did you think that gave you the right to come into our house, or our room?" Elijah asked. The tone of his voice was level and calm but you just had to look at his face to see how close he really was to losing his temper. "Maybe we should continue this conversation over breakfast." I suggested.

"Why? Is it not civilised to talk about my arranged marriage while the woman I love is in bed with another man?" Ryker shouted.

Elijah was out of the bed and halfway across the room before I had time to react. He crossed the room in a second flat, pushing Ryker up against the wall with enough force to knock the wind out of him. Elijah put one hand around Ryker's throat, I could see the pain in Ryker's eyes but he was trying his best not to cry out or let his pain show on his face.

"That's my mate you are talking about." Elijah growled.

His wolf had completely taken control. His voice was much harsher than usual and his claws were starting to come out. Ryker growled at Elijah, even given his vulnerable position it looked as thought he wasn't willing to back down. Fucking idiot.

What I wanted to do was walk over to them, pull them off each other and tell them to stop being so stupid. I was however completely naked underneath these sheets and I was pretty sure that wouldn't help the situation. "Do you want to challenge me, pup?" Elijah's wolf asked.

Ryker tried to speak but with Elijah's hand around his neck it just came out as a choked whimper. Elijah's wolf loosened his grip slightly but made sure to keep him firmly in place. "No alpha," Ryker replied.

Elijah's wolf finally let go of Ryker's neck. We watched as Ryker picked himself up and walked out of our room. He was rubbing his neck and mumbling to himself as he went. Elijah's wolf waited until Ryker was out of sight then he closed the door and came back to bed.

He wrapped his arms around me and buried his face into my neck growling "mine" over and over again. His wolf was still in control. I pulled him closer to me, wrapping my arms and legs around him.

"That's right, I'm all yours," I whispered.

Elijah's wolf removed himself from my neck and looked into my eyes. We looked at each other for a few seconds until his silent gaze started to make me feel uncomfortable. I closed my eyes and leaned in towards him until I felt my lips meet his. After a few seconds he leaned backwards, breaking contact.

"You don't love him, do you?" Elijah's wolf asked.

"Of course not, I only love you." I replied without even a second's delay.

I hated the thought of Elijah doubting my feelings for him, even thinking about it made my heart ache. A smile spread across Elijah's face as his wolf receded, leaving him in charge once more. He wrapped his arms around me and held me so tightly that I could hardly breathe.

"I love you too. I don't know if I could go on if you ever left me." He whispered in my ear between kisses.

"You don't need to worry about that." I reassured him.

We held each other for a few more minutes before we started to get ready for the day ahead. By the time we got downstairs breakfast was already underway.

Ryker was sitting with Elijah's family looking a little guilty but he wasn't looking guilty enough for mine or my wolf's liking. The morning had been going so well before he showed up, I had even managed to shake most of my discomfort over my earlier nightmare.

I sat down at the table beside Elijah and listened to their conversation. Elijah spent a bit of time reassuring Ryker before going on to explain his plan. Elijah had got to know alpha Fuller's daughter Helen pretty well after years of him trying to get Elijah to take her as his chosen mate.

"There are three things that her pack prizes above all else. Those are strength, power and ambition." Elijah started to tell us before Ryker interrupted him.

"How exactly is this going to help me evade her?"

"Well, knowing that is what she wants from her mate you can make sure that you don't have what she wants. I know you can't do anything about your strength but the other two are easy enough to fake. You can pretend not to be interested in the gamma position and claim that it has always been your greatest wish to do something more grounded." Elijah continued.

"Or even better, you could tell her you want to be a house husband." Ava interjected. I burst out laughing.

"What's so funny about that? I might want to be a house husband for all you know." Ryker objected. "I'm sorry, I am just picturing your life if Helen decided to call your bluff on that one." I replied. Ryker shuddered in his seat while the rest of us started laughing again.
