Chapter 29
School was dull. I mean school was always dull but today was about ten times worse than usual because all I wanted was to be back at home with Elijah.
Elijah was spending the day trying to work out who was sending the werewolves after me. He still had the ones who intruded on our territory in custody. They were due to be given back to their respective packs this weekend so he wanted to learn everything he could from them before then.
I had tried to persuade him that I would be able to help or that my time would be better spent studying the books we found. It didn't matter though, he wasn't having any of it. He told me that my education was too important to ignore and forced me to go to school.
I was going to have to find some way to graduate early. There was no way I could continue going to school every day when the pack was in danger and people were after me. It was such a waste of time. "Diana, where are you going? You better not be planning on sneaking out again," Ryker said as he ran to catch up with me.
"Not today, I'm going to talk to someone about graduating early," I replied.
Surely it couldn't be too hard. I had most of my credits and I was ahead in all of my classes. It should only take me a few weeks at most to get the rest of my credits and then I would be free. "No," Ryker said.
"What do you mean no?" I asked.
I could feel my anger rising, I didn't like him trying to tell me what I should do.
'We should make him pay for that,' Onyx growled.
"You can't graduate early. How am I supposed to keep an eye on you if you leave?" Ryker asked, sounding dismayed.
"You don't need to look after me. I have Elijah now and it is his job to look after me," I replied.
The truth was I didn't need anyone to look after me, I am a strong alpha in my own right and I could take care of myself. I was just making a point, I wanted to make it clear to Ryker that I wasn't his responsibility any more. It must have worked because he looked hurt.
His jaw clenched as he tried to hide his pain from me but he wasn't doing a good job. His eyes looked glassy as tears started to form in them. I felt guilty for making him feel this way but he needed to hear it. He needed to stop thinking of me as though I belonged to him.
"What is going on here?" Ava asked as she walked towards us. Felix had his arm around her waist and he was watching her every move lovingly.
"Diana is planning to graduate early," Ryker said, his voice shaking with his pain.
"You can't do that. You can't leave us to suffer the rest of school alone," Ava replied.
"That is exactly what I was saying," Ryker replied.
"Really? You are acting like I will stop talking to you just because I am not in school anymore," I said, looking at each of them in turn.
"I don't think that would ever happen but there has been too much change around here over the last few weeks. I need it to stop for a while," Ava said. "Fine," I replied feeling defeated.
"I needed to talk to you anyway, can I help you get ready for the party tonight? I want to spend some time with you alone," Ava said.
"Can't I come too, I don't want to be away from you," Felix said pouting at Ava.
“It is difficult being away from your mate, isn't it?" Elijah said, coming up behind me and wrapping his arms around my waist.
"What are you doing here?" I asked.
"I missed you,” He said, rubbing his nose against my neck and breathing in my scent deepy.
'There was another attack on our border and I needed to make sure you were safe,' He told me over mind link, making my blood run cold.
'I'm fine but maybe you should take me home, maybe I can help,' I said.

'There is nothing to do. We collected them and put them in our holding cells. They are no danger but I couldn't shake the bad feeling I had.' Elijah told me over mindlink. "Maybe the alpha mutt hasn't got such terrible instincts after all," Said a deep voice behind us.
Elijah spun around and quickly moved so that he was standing between me and the man who had just spoken. Both Felix and Elijah growled at him but I was distracted by his presence.
I wasn't used to my powers yet but even so I could tell the wolf standing in front of me was different. He wasn't much older than me but he had a strong alpha aura, stronger than Elijah's. He was tall with short dark hair and brown eyes but the most interesting thing about him was his wolf.
His wolf was strong as was the connection that I felt between my wolf and his. It was nothing like the connection that I felt to Elijah but I had a feeling that if I tried to then I would be able to read his thoughts.
"Sweetheart, you have so much to learn about your powers but I can teach you if you come with me," The man told me, projecting the words straight into my head.
"Who are you and what are you doing here? Elijah growled.
I looked around, there was nobody in the corridors. That in itself was very strange. It was the beginning of lunchbreak, this corridor should be filled with other students. "I made them all take alternative routes. I didn't want them to disrupt us," He projected into my mind.
"My name is Arthur and I am Diana's future husband," The man said out loud.
Elijah growled and started walking towards him. He looked as though he was going to kill him, his claws were already forming where his fingernails should be. "Stop that now," Arthur said.
Elijah instantly stopped moving, as though Arthur had given him an alpha command but that was impossible. Alpha commands didn't work on other alpha wolves. "She is mine," Elijah growled at Arthur.

He started walking towards me. Out of the corner of my eye I could see Elijah struggling. His muscles were straining as he tried to fight against Arthur's command and get to him.
"I don't belong anywhere near you," I growled as he closed the distance between us.
"You can't fight destiny," He said.
That is bullshit, if we were destined to be together then the moon goddess would have made him my mate. He is just chasing power and he thinks he can use me to get it but that is never going to happen. I will never marry him. "Maybe not today but someday soon you will accept my proposal," "Stop reading my mind," I shouted.
"You should get used to it. We will be getting to know each other much more intimately soon," He said.
He reached out and tried to touch my face but I took a step back to avoid him. Arthur smiled as though my rejection was amusing to him.
'In your dreams, asshole,' Onyx growled.
"Your wolf is fiesty. I can't wait to taste her," He said before sharing his thoughts with me.
He showed me a vision of me lying on a huge four poster bed while he was taking my body. I closed my eyes and tried to block out the images but they just kept coming.
A few long seconds later the images finally cleared and I could feel Elijah holding me in his arms. My face was buried into his chest so even when I opened my eyes I couldn't see anything going on around me. "It's ok honey, he's gone," Elijah said.
