The Lost Female Alpha

Chapter 28

It was early evening when we finally arrived back home. Getting into the room behind the door turned out to be easy, I did as Grayson suggested and the door opened straight away. It was moving the books and papers into the car that took most of the time. Why were there so many of them and why did they all have to be so heavy?

"Can we just leave the books in the car tonight?" I complained as Elijah parked the car in the garage. Carrying all of those heavy books upstairs tonight was pretty much the last thing I wanted to do right now.

"That probably isn't a good idea with people looking for you. These books are clearly important. I can get some of the omegas to do it and put them in my office," Elijah said, I could tell he was feeling just as tired as I was from the tone of his voice.

I nodded my head in agreement. That was about as close to conversation as I could manage until I had eaten. I haven't had anything to eat since breakfast and I was starting to feel more than a little worse for where. I wasn't used to going so long between meals. Luckily for me dinner was only a few minutes away.

I just had enough time to shower and change before heading down to dinner with Elijah's family. Maybe it would have been better if there was time for me to have a nap before having to deal with Felix. He tries my patience at the best of times but I am sure it would be much worse while I was hungry and tired.

When we arrived in the dining room Ava was sitting at the table between Felix and his mom. She had her arms crossed across her chest and she was looking straight ahead. Felix had his whole body turned towards her, and he was trying desperately to engage her in conversation.

"What is going on here?" I asked as I sat down at the table opposite her.

"Felix went all caveman on me at school. He said it is because of his wolf but I think it is just because he is a possessive ass." Ava said, rolling her eyes.

"What I meant was, why are you here?" I asked.

"Wait a moment, I want to know what my brother did to you." Elijah said, he was staring at Felix like he was thinking about hitting him.

"He punched Ryker in the face this morning over nothing," Ava said.

"It wasn't over nothing. He touched your coat, his scent was on you. My wolf thought you were going to leave us and be with him. There wasn't anything I could do to stop him," Felix said.

"You need to learn to control your wolf better," Elijah said, rolling his eyes at his brother.

"I know. I am trying. It's hard having a mate. I have never felt jealous before and I don't know how to deal with it," Felix replied.

Ava shook her head then went back to ignoring Felix again, focusing all her attention on me and Elijah.

"Anyway, after that Felix told me that he would be able to deal with his emotions better if I moved into the house with him. I reluctantly agreed," Ava continued.

"Does that mean you are accepting him?" I asked.

"I don't really have much choice since he marked me," Ava said, she glanced over towards Felix.

"I'm sorry but I promise that I will make it up to you," Felix said.

"I know you will," Ava said.

A huge smile crept across Felix's face. Even though Ava was still annoyed with him she was dropping her guard and giving him a chance. Felix was going to make sure that he grabbed that chance with both hands.

He leaned over in his seat and took hold of her hand. He lifted it to his lips for a brief kiss before resting it on his lap. She looked at him for a second, there was a softness in her eyes that wasn't there before. "Where were you today?" Ava asked, turning her attention to me.

"She came with me to follow up one some leads about the rogues who aren't actually rogues," Elijah said.

Elijah's father looked up from his food. It was the first time in the conversation that he had shown any interest in what was going on around him.

"I heard about the rogue attack. What did you find out?" He asked.

"Not a lot. We think that someone is using magic to control werewolves but we have no clue who it is or why," Elijah said.

Elijah's father smiled and leaned forward in his seat. He seemed to be enjoying this. Elijah's mom noticed this and rolled her eyes before continuing on with her meal.

"This is great. We never had anything like this when I was alpha," He said.

"Great isn't the word I would use for it. Magic can be very dangerous," Elijah's mom said. She looked horrified with her mate's excitement.

"I know, so it is good that the pack is being run by two alpha's now," His dad replied.

"Two alphas?" Ava asked.

"Didn't you know that your friend is an alpha?" Elijah's dad asked.

Ava shook her head. From the way she was looking at me I could tell she was upset. This made Felix happy, he was just glad that he wasn't the one in the bad books for once. "She is really strong, she kicked my ass at training this week," He said.

"Now that I would like to see." Ava said.

She looked at Felix and smiled, he must have known what she meant but he was acting as though she had just proposed a date. He smiled at her and took hold of her other hand.

"If that would make you happy I would let the whole pack beat me up while you watched," He said.

"You make it sound like I am a psychopath," Ava replied, looking a little offended.

"No but if this is the way to get you to forgive me then I am happy to do it. I would do anything for you," He said.

Ava started to blush. She turned away, looking down at her plate as though it was suddenly the most interesting thing in the room. Despite how uncomfortable she seemed she let Felix keep hold of one of her hands. They kept holding on to each other for the rest of dinner, she didn't even seem upset about it.

'Can we leave now?' I asked Elijah through mindlink.

'What about dessert? My mom made chocolate cake. She would be very upset if you didn't eat any,' He replied.

"She already thinks you are too skinny," He thought.

Oh great, I had never worried about my weight before but now that was exactly what I was doing. I had always been thin for as long as I can remember. It didn't help that I had to skip lunch most days since I moved here but I never thought of it as a bad thing. Many women would literally kill for my figure.

'You heard my thoughts didn't you,' Elijah asked over mindlink.

'Yes,' I replied.

'I guess you missed the part where I thought about how wrong she was. The way I see it, you are perfect,' He continued.

I glanced over at Elijah and smiled. He might be cheesy but he had a way of stopping me when spiralling into self hatred. Maybe he was exactly what I needed.
