(Book 3) – Chapter 45
By the time I had woke up it had been two days and we were in a small nearby packs clinic. It had three beds which were full along with some of the floor and if I placed the snores right the hallway. I had awoken to my mother and father sitting in chairs beside my bed and my mates in their wolf form surrounding my bed and some of them around the clinic protecting it from who knows what.
“Is Mel ok?” I croaked out making my parents jump.
“Baby!” She screeched as she latched onto me in a bear hug. “I have been so worried. Your father and I haven’t left this room since we brought you here.”
“Can’t… Breath…” I gasped out as I tried to push her off me. Dad instantly yanked her up and apologized. “Its ok, guys. I knew I was going to be out for a bit. I was always down on my power when we needed to use them at the end. I am just glad we made it here and it seems we didn’t have too many fatalities.”
Koda jumped up on the bed and curled up beside me putting his snout on my neck. His body felt tired and weak so I knew he hadn’t left or had anyone check him out since I passed out. Stubborn old goat.
“Get me the nurse.” I stated as I began petting Koda softly and kissing his wet nose. “How many died on our side? How many prisoners do we have?”
“Is something wrong?” My dad asked looking me over. “Why do you need the nurse?”
I just smiled at him before looking over at Asher while he shifted back to his human self and put his clothes on. Mom had turned her head and there was some red to her cheeks which was so cute. Dad just rolled his eyes at Asher before trying to find out what was wrong with me.
“I am so glad you are ok, baby. Let’s not do that again, ok?” Asher stated walking over to me and kissing my forehead. “Don’t worry about anything other than getting better.”
Blue growled at him. He stepped back in surprise and stared at us. He should know better.
“Don’t tell me what to do or try to keep me away from anything.” I said glaring at him. “Answer my questions, Asher, before I get out of this bed and found out for myself.”
“So freaking stubborn.” He growled. “We have ten prisoners including Brody in the cells here with round the clock guards and several at a time.”
“Good and?” I asked noticing a nurse heading to our door.
“And we have thirty dead between the different packs, double that injured enough to need to head back home to get better, and a few minor injuries that healed instantly.” Asher said before a knock came at our door.
“Hey, I heard you were looking for a nurse?” She walked in and started to mess with some of the machines I was hooked up to. “How are you feeling?”
“I am fine.” I said and grabbed a handful of Koda’s fur. “Someone didn’t get checked out like they should have and they are going to do that now.”
She stopped what she was doing and looked at me puzzled. “Huh?”
“This dog here needs checked out and good talking to. The next time I wake up in a clinic my mates better all be in good health, or I will let them have it.” I stated. I could hear their breaths stutter and I smiled. The boys were finally learning.
I leaned down to Koda and told him to shift. I put my sheet over him while he did and told the nurse to get a room ready to have him checked out by the doctor. She blushed when Koda dropped the blanket which was a bad move on her part. Blue growled and my hands turned into my claws. She ran from the room scared. I shoved Koda down onto the bed and rubbed my scent all over him ignoring his pleas for me to stop and that he was fine.
“We are going to head out. Your dad needs to get his foot up and I need a nap.” My mother said kissing my cheek. “The twins and I talked a bit to Brody but got nothing. He won’t speak to anyone but you.”
I told her we would all head down and handle all the survivors later today. I needed to talk to Alpha and Beta team, check on everyone else, and make sure a few things are sent to the fallen ones families.
Koda went to get checked out with Edgar going with him. I didn’t trust him running off to help with something and saying the doctor said he was fine. I knew he would do it because I would.
I got dressed and headed out with Asher and Andrew to visit the wolves that had the more serious injuries. Most of them had been put up in some of the rooms. The ones in the clinic currently were almost better but need a final checkup. Our first stop was Roger and from what Asher said he was the worst patient ever. Here’s to hoping I could handle his cranky a*s.
“Knock, Knock.” I opened the door and found Roger staring out the window. “How are you feeling?”
He looked at me and gave me a small smile. He was drugged up. It must have been good drugs if he was biting at the bit to get out of this room.
“I missed you, Ryder.” He said giggling at me. “Did you come to get me so we could fight the evil queen together?”
“Whatever they gave you for the pain and infection I want some of it.” Asher said shutting the door behind us. Andrew stayed outside the door to watch our backs.
“They said I couldn’t go into the next battle with you, Ryder.” Roger said staring at me hard. “I don’t agree. I will be fine as soon as you are ready.”
I looked him over and disagreed with him. His leg was broken in so many spots it was taking longer to heal. He had been stabbed with a silver knife that had poison on it so his wolf was in pain and sleeping. His lungs were working harder than they would normally so his breathing was shorter.
“Roger…” I looked at him and let out a harsh breath. “Your fight in this is over until you are healed. We may have it all over by then. For now you need to get home and be with your mate and newly adopted kiddo. You will help each other heal.”
“Ryder, No.” Roger pleaded but I shook my head no.
“I am sorry. Thank you for everything. You are one of the strongest and most loyal alphas I know. I hope that one day I can send other soon to be alphas your way to learn the right way to run a pack.”
We left his room ignoring his anger and headed down to the next. Blakes dad Julian had been hurt with a silver bomb and was taking forever to heal. I just had to hope he took the news better about being sent home.
Blake, did you want to join us in meeting with your father?’ I linked him. He denied and thanked me for taking that bullet.
We walked in on Julian talking on the phone to his mate and by the way he looked at me he already knew my decision. He nodded and told his wife he was coming back to help protect the pack. She cried and thanked me for having the balls to stand up to her mate. I lost it and had a good laugh. Everyone joined in and helped ease the situation.
“When will you talk to Brody to get the location?” Julian asked after he got off the phone.
“A few more visits and a few more things to plan before getting down to the dirty work.” I told him.
I hugged him and told him to rest some more. We would make the arrangements to get him home. I expected to come back to a safe pack and especially my sister’s being safe. He promised nothing would happen to them.
We finished up visits to the rest of the warriors and they all understood. I got a few to help plan the funerals for the fallen and promised to help the families. Now to grab the rest of my mates and head to have some serious talks. Asher agreed as long as I eat as I walk and started stuffing my mouth with food. A bit over protective but thats ok. He is too cute.
