(Book 2) – Chapter 75
Three days in the car with my mates was not my idea of a vacation or a small rest. Don’t get me wrong I love them and traveling between packs has been great but we normally only drove a day at a time. With being this close for this long I have noticed things I never wanted to and I was so over it. The twins bickered like married ladies about EVERYTHING including what they wanted to name the babies, who has a bigger p***s, and which Spice Girl was hotter. I was into the argument until they dismissed that Scary Spice was in league with Baby Spice and Sporty spice. I just flicked them on the back of their heads and cuddled between Edgar and Koda, who have become best buddies. They both are into tech which is great, but I have no idea what they are talking about most of the time. I just smile and nod while I cuddle into them.
“We only have about three hours left before we are home. Anyone need a pee break?” Alistair asked over the speaker phone.
“I do!” I screamed as I heard Mel scream the same thing. All the guys laughed before saying they needed a break before finishing up and focusing on everything that needs to be done.
The stop was quick but I was eternally grateful. This peeing every time I had a drink of something was getting old fast. The guys just laughed at me when I made it back into my seat with a big smile and a pickle. Jerks.
“Did the worker here give you a bad vibe?” I asked them as I looked back toward the convenience store. “It felt like he knew what and who we are.”
“Why would you say that, babydoll?” Asher asked as he start the SUV up. “He seemed normal enough to me.”
“I don’t know. He didn’t say anything that would make me feel this way but I feel like something is going to go wrong now.” I tried to explain. I thought back to our interaction and it seemed simple enough but my gut was doing a dangerous tango telling me to
watch our steps.
“If that is how you feel, then we will keep our eyes peeled.” Knox told me as he pulled me closer to him. Kane scooted closer making this twin sandwich even tighter and hotter.
Asher pulled out with Alistair right on our butts. I listened to the guys talk about what they wanted to do when we got back and all the things they needed to do. Koda and Edgar were excited to see the pack but were nervous about meeting my parents. I smiled at that knowing my dad was going to give them so much s**t.
“What are you smiling at back there, trouble?” Edgar asked from the front passenger seat.
“Oh, noth..” I tried to reply but was cut off when another SUV rammed ours from the side pushing us into a huge open field. The hit was hard and it felt like my brain had been rattled.
“s**t, what the f**k?!” Koda growled out sitting forward to check me over. I shook my head that I was fine.
“Guys, we have company.” That was all Asher had to say before we all jumped out of the car to give us room to fight. I saw the other SUV had barreled right after us pulling to a stop just seconds before they all jumped out to surround us. Alistair pushed Melissa into the middle with us.
Looking around it seemed we were surrounded by a mix of Witch, Vampire, and even wolf. They all had hatred in their eyes and their bodies were tensed like they knew this was going to end up in a b***d bath. Well crap on a stick. I just wanted to make it home to warm soak, some family cuddles, and chocolate cake but that never works out in my favor.
“I know most villains have this long drawn out speech and s**t but..” One of the vampires said as he stepped forward. “That s**t is overrated. Get ready to die, bitches.” With that he ran straight at us and the rest followed.
It was a blur after that. I know the guys tried to keep me in the middle of them but I was not having it. We were outnumbered and I had more than strength, but I had to be able to see everyone to help where it was needed the most. It seemed to be going in our favor after we killed a few and a couple of the weaker ones ran off. It wasn’t until they started to focus more on my mates than anyone else that I lost my complete s**t.
“No one touches my mates!” I screamed as I broke the witches’ neck and ran toward the three vampires ganging up on Edgar. He was already worn out from the others he had fought. “Edgar duck and cover!” I screamed hoping he heard me as I threw my magic into the earth around me.
It pulled dirt and rock up with it covering the vampires until they were buried beneath it. I screamed as I pulled the b***d from their bodies, making the ground soaked in b***d. No one would care what bodies laid beneath or the b***d that was shed here so it seemed fitting that they were the first to be under the ground.
“Run, Ryder.” Asher yelled as he threw a wolf into one of the SUV’s making the whole thing scoot backwards a few feet. “You have to survive.” What a self-sacrificing idiot…
“I can’t live knowing I ran while you all died. We live together and we die together.” I yelled over at him ignoring his pleading noises he was making at me.
I looked around and saw my mates had at least one person they were fighting with. Melissa was throwing spells from behind Alistair, Greg, and Rav. Four of the warriors were dead and two were injured but still fighting. I felt horrible about them dying even if it was fighting for us. I had to make up for it. Taking a second to glance around at my mates again and feeling secure they could win their battles I focused on the wounded warriors.
‘Blue, we can’t shift but I need you to push through. I am low on power.’ I admitted to Blue.
‘I know that and stop using your power. You have to trust in your mates and the people around us. We have to keep these babies safe!’ She growled back pushing her way to the front making my eyes glow purple.
I just ignored her bratty attitude and followed her directions. I ran toward them barely making it to blow a killing blow from a vampire. I shoved him back as he stumbled and hissed back at me. I heard the warrior collapse behind me but was reassured by the faint heartbeat he still had. The vampire ran and jumped toward me shoving me onto the ground. Blue growled, extended her claws, and shoved it through his chest pushing his heart out of his body. He barely had a chance to gasp before he was dead weight on top of us. Shoving his body off of us I heard the other warrior take his last breath as he was drained by the other vampire.
‘Live by b***d. Die by b***d.’ Blue chanted and I agreed. I used her power source to heat his b***d quickly making him explode with me ending up covered in pieces of vampire.
“Disgusting.” I choked out as I picked a piece of what looked like brain matter off my shirt. “Lesson learned, Burn them up slowly so I don’t end up wearing them.”
“RYDER!!” Melissa screamed making me jerk my head toward her. She was standing around someone on the ground with the rest of our group. My heart dropped knowing it was one of my mates.
I ran to them feeling like it was taking me hours to get to them when it took a minute. On the ground with the faintest heart beat and his body covered in b***d was one half of my twin mates, Knox. I dropped beside him trying to figure out where the b***d was coming from. There was so much of it.
“Ryder, I…” Kane tried to say, but I shook my head.
“This is what happens now.” I growled out grabbing Knox’s hand and pushing my power into him hoping it would help keep the remaining amount of his b***d in him. “I will use my powers to hold his b***d inside him while we clean him up and fix what we can before we rush like bats out of hell to get him to the pack. Mel and Alistair will get everyone else rounded up. The dead will have to wait for now.”
“But he won’t..” Blake started to argue but I growled out at him.
“No one speaks unless it is to say how we fix this, fix him.” I ordered. “Now.”
‘Please, my love, I need you.’ I linked him pouring my love into our bond. ‘Don’t leave me when I need you the most.’
‘Always, baby girl.’ He replied before passing out.
It only took us a few minutes to find the worst of the wounds and get them patched up enough to get him into the SUV. I just had to hope we made it back in time to save my mate before finding out who crossed us. They were going to pay for every wound on each of my mates and the deaths of those that traveled with us. It sucks to be them.
“DRIVE!” I shouted knowing everyone would do what needed to be done to save his life.
