The Kings of Whitehaven Her Keepers by Stacy Rush

Chapter 4

Chapter 4

Nob*dy bothers me the rest of the night and all–day Sunday, I’m left on my own, but I notice that none of the staff will talk to me. I clean up after myself and I make my own meals, not that I didn’t do that before. Just because I grew up with money doesn’t mean I’m a spoiled rich kid like most of the Whitehaven student b*dy. By mid–afternoon, I’m going stir crazy, so I try leaving the house, only all the doors are locked and there doesn’t seem to be a key anywhere.

None of the guys are around, so I try asking one of the cleaning ladies, but she straight up snubs me and refuses to answer me. With having nothing else to do, I go back to my room and work on reading ahead on some of my chapters for school. Not too soon after starting to read, I fall asleep and don’t wake up until morning.

Again, I don’t catch sight of any of the guys, which I’m starting to find weird, but instead of thinking too hard on it, I head to my first class. The guys live on the outskirts of the University grounds, so technically it’s off campus but close enough to walk. All the way to school and when I’m walking into the building, students are either staring at me as they smirk, or with sympathy. I can’t make heads or tails of it, so I just let it go. It’s probably from when I told the guys off last week since it was in front of half the school.

It isn’t until I get to my locker that I notice flyers hanging up on the walls every few feet. Being a nosey person, I walk over to one of the flyers and start reading it. The hairs on the back of my neck stand up as soon as the words register in my head. It’s one of the entries to my diary. I pull the paper off the wall and read it again.

‘I slowly slid my hand down my stomach in search of the warmth that I know is there. My panties are already soaked just from thinking about

Tyler Hassler, with his shaggy blonde hair and pretty blue eyes. I imagine that it’s his fingers sliding down and finding my wetness. I’m scared and excited all at once because I’m a virgin and I know he’s going to want my V–card after this. I think I may be the oldest virgin in my class because I’m about to start at Whitehaven soon and I’ve never even k*ssed a boy…‘

It goes on and gets really explicit, and all I want to do is find a hole and climb into it. Not thinking this morning can get any worse, Paxtyn finds me in the girl’s bathroom that I duck into as soon as I finish reading the entry.

“Hey, are you okay?” She asks worriedly.

“No, not really, but I should have expected this after last week and then finding out that he stole my diary entries.” I rub my temples, “At least it wasn’t about anyb*dy here at this school, so the guy won’t see it.” I finally look at her and she has an almost guilty expression on her face, “What’s that look for?” I ask, my tone getting a bit high.

“I’m not sure which one made it, but there is a social media page dedicated to you and your old school and this Tyler guy is tagged in it.”

“What the fuck are you talking about? Show me!”

Pulling her phone out, she scrolls through it and then holds it out for me to take, “I’m sorry, Kambree. They are a bunch of assholes.”

I glance at her phone and sure enough there is a picture of me and my diary entry, but what’s worse is that Tyler’s picture is up on it as well. The number of responses and people tagging Tyler in it is ridiculous. He even responded with, “Damn, wish I would have known she was into me; I would have gladly taken her V–card! I wonder if she’s still interested.”

Yep, I need to find that hole now! I hand Paxtyn back her phone and then run from the restroom with her calling after me, but I don’t stop. I keep running until I run right into what I think is a brick wall. When I glance up, I

bullies.

“Awe, where are you off to, Red? You’re going to miss class if you don’t head there now.” Trip states with a smirk.

“What did you think would happen, Kammy?” Garrett wipes a tear that rolls down my cheek.

“Get used to it Bree. Until you earn your place with us, you will learn to hate us. We are your Keepers at the moment, so what we say goes. Do you understand?” Xander is wearing a similar smirk to Trip’s.

“Why,” I whisper, “Why are you doing this to me?”

“Because Bree, you need to learn your place here. You need to learn who rules this school and know that we do what we want and anyone that gets in our way, pays a price.” My stepbrother caresses my head, “Lucky for you, we think you have what it takes, but you need to prove yourself.”

“I don’t understand, what do I have?”

Xander’s eyes sweep me from head to toe and then stares right into my eyes with his blue ones, “Figure it out, Bree.” He turns and walks away with Trip following him.

Garrett steps in close, “It will be in your best interest to figure it out fast.” When our eyes meet, it almost looks like he’s trying to give me the warning as a friend, but then his face hardens once again, and he hurries to catch up with his two friends.

I go to all my classes in a daze, not bothering to look at anyone, and when I have to look at a professor, all I get are looks of sympathy. They are all scared of the Kings as well; I’m doomed in this school. Not only do I have someone sending me threatening letters, I now have to depend on the Kings for protection, but who is going to protect me from them?

I’m only a half block from the University on my way home when a Range Rover pulls up, “Get in.”

I look and see that it’s Xander, “It’s okay, I can walk.”

“I wasn’t asking, it’s an order.”

I stop walking and just stare at him, but he gives me a death stare that says only one thing, to get the fuck in the Rover. So, with a heavy heart, I walk around and get into the passenger front seat. He doesn’t drive forward and so I glance over at him. Raising a brow at me, “Seatbelt.”

“But we only live like two blocks away.” I state.

Giving me an annoyed look, he reaches over and grabs the belt, pulling it across the front of me and into the slot, “Nob*dy rides in here without wearing one. I don’t give a fuck if we are only going two houses down, you wear your seatbelt.”

“Okay, sheesh!” I say and then stare out the window, “I didn’t even ask for a ride.” I mumble to myself.”

Xander yanks the wheel to the side, pulling over by the curb before throwing the Rover in park. He then turns to me and grabs my chin so I have to look at him, “I was going to wait until we get home, but it seems like you want to be a mouthy little thing, so we will go over the rules now. There will be no talking back, you will do as we tell you, you are to be at the dinner table at all three meals with us, if we don’t

like what you are wearing, you will go change. You will go to and from school with one of us, never by yourself like this morning, and you are not to leave the house without one of us.”

“O–okay…”

“One more thing, you will not talk to any of the staff unless spoken to first and only to answer their question. They have been ordered not to talk to you, so don’t even try. When we feel that you are being a good girl and following the rules, you will be rewarded.”

I don’t dare say it out loud, but damn, does he think I’m a f**king dog? I’m so glad that this is only for two weeks, and then I can go back to my normal life. When he stops talking and asks if I understand, I nod.

“Words, Bree.”

“Yes, Xander, I understand.”

Strangely, he caresses my cheek, “You are under our roof for protection. Unfortunately, that also comes with a price, and it can get steep, but I think in the end you will be thanking us for keeping you safe.”

I don’t say anything, just stare into his blue orbs that seem to be memorizing every inch of my face. After a moment of doing so, he turns back to the road and in two minutes time, we are pulling into the attached garage. There’s a couple of motorcycles parked towards the back, and I wonder who they belong to, but I’m not going to ask because I don’t think I’m allowed to ask questions.

Grabbing my laptop bag and book bag, I jump out and head into the house. I make my way down the darkened hallway to my tiny room but then I feel a presence behind me. My stepbrother is following me down to my room. When I get to my door, I turn and finally dare to ask him the one question that I’ve been wanting to know.

“Why did you put me in this room, Xander?”

He smirks, “You need to earn privileges here.”

“So, what do I need to do in order to get out of this room?”

He steps closer and presses his b*dy into mine, dipping his head, “All you need to do is be a good girl and follow the rules, Bree. You know how to be a good girl, don’t you?” He then pushes some hair from my face, and I swear I feel tiny sparks shoot right to my core from just his touch.

I stare up at him and bite my bottom lip, “Yeah, I can be good.”
