“Now Xander, you will take her in for the time that we are gone!” Jonas puts his foot down and there is nothing neither Xander nor I can do or say that will change his mind.
“Don’t I have a say in this at all?” I slam my hands down on the counter, “Xander and his friends don’t even like me, why in the hell would I stay with them?”
“Oh, Kambree, stop exaggerating, of course, Xander likes you,” Jonas states and then glares at his son as if I don’t notice, “Don’t you Xander?”
The tick in my stepbrother’s jaw doesn’t go unnoticed either as he has a stare down with his father, “Of course, I do.” He turns to me, “You are welcome to stay with the Kings for the duration of their vacation.”
Now, everyone’s attention is on me as they wait for my response, my mother’s hopeful look is what does me in, because I know how unhappy she was before she met Jonas, and I don’t want to be the one to ruin her happiness now, “Okay, fine. I’ll stay with the guys.”
“Thank you, honey, but only if you’re sure.” She knows damn well that I’m not, but she needs to look like the good mother, so I just smile and walk out of the kitchen.
I don’t make it too far before I’m being shoved into the closest room, which turns out to be the library. I don’t have to look to see who it is because I can smell his cologne. I’m pushed until my chest is against the wall, and he’s leaning his whole b*dy into me. All at once my senses go on overdrive and I’m beginning to pant like a bitch in heat.

“Looks like we’re going to be roomies, roomy. Don’t think you’re going to slack on your duties because we all pull our weight around there; do you hear me?”
I nod.
“I can’t f**king hear you!”
“Yes!” I choke out.
“Don’t be surprised of how the others treat you because none of us like having strangers in our space. You are going to be watched like a hawk.”
“I promise, I will stay out of your way and do as I’m told.”
“Do I need to have you sign that in blood, or can I trust your word?”
“You have my word, Xander.”
Shoving off me, he’s gone by the ti
gone by the time I turn around, and I’m staring at an empty library. I don’t stand around waiting for my stepbrother to come back. Instead, I hurry up to my room and lock myself in for the rest of the afternoon. I remember what Xander had said earlier about reading my diary and I run over to my bed and reach under my mattress. A sigh of relief falls from my mouth as my hand finds it where I always leave it. Pulling it out just to make sure he didn’t switch it out for another book, I begin to calm myself when I see the leather cover.
It isn’t until I open it and start flipping through the pages that I begin to realize that there are pages missing, and a lot of them. I’m not talking about the boring ones either. I have a tendency of writing down all of my private moments, and I’m usually very explicit, especially when I’m envisioning someone there with me. Thank God I’ve never mentioned anyone from this town or Whitehaven, but it doesn’t matter because all

of those pages are now in the hands of my evil stepbrother.
“Jonas, can I take a picture of the letter that came for me?” I ask my stepfather because I want to see if I can make some kind of heads or tails of it. Aside from the Kings, I don’t know who else I have pissed
off.
“Oh, I’ve already taken it over to the police station, I’m sorry, Kambree.”
“No, that’s okay. It isn’t that important, I guess. I just don’t understand who would have sent it to me.” I pick up my suitcase and head for the front door as their driver begins to take their luggage out to the car.
“Well, that is what the police are for, sweetheart.” Jonas seems to mean well, but I always get this weird vibe whenever he calls me an endearment of some kind.
“Yeah, hopefully they figure it out.” I’m just about out the door when I realize that I’ve forgotten my other bag, “Oh shoot, I need to run up to my room and grab my other bag.” I hug my mom, “You guys go ahead, I’ll lock up behind me.
“No,” Jonas says a bit irritated, “It’s fine, just hurry up.”
I’m not sure what’s gotten into him but he’s acting weird, as though he doesn’t want me in the house by myself. He even took my house key and told me that he was going to be having the locks changed while they are gone and that I’ll get a key when they get back. Needless to say, I have to make sure I have everything that I’m going to need for the next two weeks.
My stepfather is tapping his foot by the time I get back and I mumble an apology. I toss my suitcase and big duffle bag into the trunk of my car and then wave them–off as I get into my car. I have a mind to break into the house and just stay here. I think I’d rather take my chances

with the one who wrote the letter than to stay under the same roof as those bullies.
“Well, well, well, look who it is!” Trip answers the door, and instead of letting me in, he lingers in the doorway, leaning against the frame.
“Hello Trip, may I please come in?”
“Hm, I’m not sure if I should let you in yet. Xander isn’t here at the moment, and I wouldn’t want to offend you in any way.”
“If you could just show me to the room that I will be staying in, I will get out of your way.” It’s taking everything I have to play nice with this asshole.
After studying me for a bit, he smirks, “Sure, Red, follow me and I will show you to the room that your brother picked out for you.”
“He’s not my brother…”
“Well, I think he will be happy to know that you feel that way.” The douchebag states.
“And why is that?” I ask as I glance into each of the rooms that we pass. It’s an older style house, all original hardwood in a Victorian style.
“Oh, you know, he hates that his father even got remarried, so he doesn’t claim either you or your mother as family.”
I stop in my tracks, “I don’t understand what I ever did to him, I’m victim in this whole thing just as much as he is.”

He shrugs, “Hey, don’t shoot the messenger,” We are at the back of the big house, on the first floor, when Trip stops suddenly, “Ah, here it is.” He opens the door to the tiniest room possible.

“You can’t expect me to live in this room for two whole weeks!” I gawk at the room that looks to be the size of a utility closet. It has just enough room for the twin size bed, a nightstand, and a 5–drawer dresser. There isn’t even a closet!
“Talk to Xander. He specifically told me to show you to this room. Oh, and the door is to remain unlocked at all times. If we find it locked, the whole door will come off and there will be consequences.”
I squeeze myself and my bags into the tiny room and then turn back to Trip, who seems to be enjoying this way too much, “Are you sure there isn’t some kind of maid attire somewhere in here? I would have thought that by sticking me in the maid’s quarters, that you would want me doing the duties as well.” I sneer.
Trip’s eyes sweep me up and down, “That can definitely be arranged, if that’s what you’re into.” He wiggles his eyebrows when he sees me glaring at him.
Rolling my eyes, I walk the two steps to the door, “In your dreams!” Slamming the door in his face probably wasn’t the smartest thing to do on my part, but at least it gets him to leave.
