The king's eyes

Chapter The meeting

I wear a classy and formal outfit. A black trouser suit, the golden Dorkaron embroidery on the jacket. A beige satin top underneath.

I tied my hair in a low ponytail. Heels not too high, just enough to be elegant, without believing me at a fashion show.

Ok, I’m ready, let’s go.

The glass palace has been converted into a large meeting room.

In the center, a large round table to welcome the great chefs.

My uncles Rarkar and Rikkon. Clarissa and Ruzen represent fairies, Clarissa for the north, and Ruzen for the south. Onas and Ridriel for the elves, Levander occupied this place before he let his friends take to, it two years ago.

There are four wizards, Ward, Ephilas, Estrella, and Ferox. Supposed to represent the four corners of the kingdom. Ferox is not a tender, in my memories. And Estrella is quite sneaky.

Clarissa is a bit too quiet for my taste, she doesn’t talk much and she’s okay with everything. Ward is nice but impulsive, he can spin when you least expect it.

I take my place among them. Even though I have demon blood, tonight I represent my human people.

Afterward, I wish Joan had been there.

I find it unfair that he is not more in the spotlight, he is very concerned about the kingdom and the needs of the people.

Shit, suddenly I feel out of place.

The representative of the nymphs needs no seat among the great chiefs tonight. Romeo has already aired their grievances and it’s all about letting them live in peace. Life underwater is another world that wants to remain mysterious, and we have chosen to respect that.

The masters of ceremony summarize the themes to be addressed one by one, then ask us to begin.

The first point speaks of the cohesion of species according to their potential. I begin.

“We have set up in the kingdom, working groups that bring together human and magical beings for harmony in the design of material or agricultural culture for example.

The voluntary demons were able to join forces to help the craftsmen, the elves, and the fairies bring their magic so that the harvests are abundant and the wind brings the clouds of rain. We have found a way to live together in total harmony. Wizards are mainly among doctors and teachers, we try to deploy them throughout the territory, on a voluntary basis.

We mainly collected requests for schools, hospitals, and transport networks for goods or raw materials via bridges or passages to be developed.

We thought of using the underground networks in addition to the existing networks on the surface if it does not disturb life underground, so we can also provide the demons with access to their habitats.

Each section of the kingdom and beyond can organize itself with the riches they have and make them benefit each species that lives there, then barter the surplus for resources they don’t have.

I also remind you that we have set up a fishing regulation control to respect the requests of the people of the nymphs, to preserve their environment."

Ruzen pursues "We preserve the nymphs but perhaps the other species would also like to have their own sanctuary, if we give access to everything, we lose the natural refuges necessary for our well-being. Humans tend to transform everything.”

Ruzen has just taken the floor to defend primary forests. I have to increase:

“It is, of course, very important to keep natural areas like the great lakes, the great primary forests, and the plains of the silver cities intact.

Treaties were signed for that, there was never any question of breaking them. Humans are knowledgeable and respectful of the wilderness areas needed by all. Overexploitation is a fragile limit that we all have in mind.”

Well, so far I’m doing pretty well.

The other members bounce on what I proposed, and we try to determine the areas devoid of living distributions to install a network, my uncles agree to use underground passages but only a few, chosen strategically.

For schools and hospitals, I’ll let the wizards debate that.

I relax seeing that everything is going as I had hoped.

I allow myself a look at my beloved, who smiles proudly at me, I return his smile, I am happy that he is with me for this special moment.

“She’s lost in her reverie with her lover so she’s not paying attention anymore, princess?? I asked you a question.”

Ferox... The low blow he just gave me gives me an adrenaline rush, everyone looks at me with a little smirk...

“I just asked you what your father has budgeted for the three schools and the two hospitals that we plan to build??”

Shit, I had lost track. I sit up and clear my throat, I go back to my files to list the allocated budgets that the kingdom has gathered for this year’s new infrastructure.

I try to keep my voice clear and confident despite the shame I feel.

The rest of the meeting goes fairly calmly and everything falls into place intelligently. Ward has some remarks about the need for medicinal plants and the harvests in this regard, and Estrella wants to lead one of the new schools, which has been granted.

The elves remain discreet without special requests and ease tensions.

At the end of the evening, we offer a question-and-answer session for non-round-table members who wish to intervene.

Finally, the meeting is declared over, we applaud each other, and we say see you next year.

I’m very happy that it’s over, in myself I return the seat of the great gathering to my father willingly for next year.

It’s time to leave the places and the spotlight that are so uncomfortable right now.
