The king's eyes

Chapter The brunch

Satine

I wake up slowly, and I feel good... The rays of the sun warm my face, I’m curled up in my bed, and in his arms.

He is still sleeping. His beautiful face is a work of art. Especially there, now, totally relaxed, by sleep yes, but also by the deliverance of his heart, his soul, and his most unmentionable need.

We slipped away to my room after our moment of intimacy. The party was still at its peak, it was easy to be discreet.

We expressed our love for each other all night long.

It was strong, it was raw, it was us, and it was beautiful.

I will never forget this night of pure freedom from the need of the other, there were only our instincts, only our impulses, only our feelings that spoke.

We put everything else aside for tonight.

A big after-party brunch takes place soon. Tonight is the seminar. I start to stress because I have an important place. I have to rise to the occasion and bring honor to my father.

"What are you thinking about?" He said, waking up.

"Oh, hello you. I’m thinking of the meeting tonight. I’m under pressure. The place of my father is decisive. And I’m afraid they’ll all be disappointed with his absence, I’m afraid of coming across as an amateur." I said, worried.

"You? You’re kidding? Since when do you let yourself be impressed by anyone? Satine, you already know all these people, you have been very involved in the kingdom for years. Everything will be fine, you’ll see." I said, confident.

"Thanks. You’re right. And if my father offered me his job, it’s because he trusts me."

"Exactly.

...Do you think they noticed that we deserted the party?" He asked.

"Romeo... I don’t know, and I don’t care. I’m sure they had other things to do than gossip. Alcohol had already taken its toll soon enough, the place was to celebrate and let go." I answered.

"...Mmh... If you say so."

"No, Romeo, don’t start regretting. It’s our life. We’re not hurting anyone, we’re in love, that’s all. Nothing out of the ordinary, nothing that deserves anything to suffer adverse consequences."

"...In love huh?" He said, teasing me.

"Don’t smile like you find out! In love yes, perfectly... I have loved you with all my heart for all these years, I have no problem saying it, Romeo."

He takes me in his arms, I snuggle up against his heart.

He answers me in a whisper.

“I love you too... Like crazy...”

We arrive together at brunch, with no show of affection.

We’re going to have to keep our history to ourselves for a while yet. And it’s time for serious business.

I join my cousins, especially Cherine who beckons me to sit down with her.

"Hey, darling! I looked for you last night, and you disappeared...

Tell me everything..." She ordered, curious.

"Hi Cherine, I’m glad to see you!

Oh, yesterday I had a little headache, I must have drunk a little too quickly, I preferred to leave the party so as not to risk putting on a show..." I said, embarrassed.

"Yeah...

Speaking of the show, Damn Satine this tango from hell!!

I am jealous!! You declared your flame on the track in front of all of us, it was so beautiful... Vibrant... Intense,

me too in your place I would have run away with my lover away from curious eyes! You must have had a hell of a night.”

Her wink is supposed to relax me but I’m suddenly hypertensive.

"Oh... You think everyone understood what’s going on between Romeo and me?" I asked.

"Honey, I think that at this hour, all Gameon knows." She answered, convinced.

"Oh my God... Dad." I said, suddenly worried.

"Satine, you’re a being like all of us, with feelings, and needs, you’re not a criminal.

Look at me, you are going to behave like the indomitable queen that you are and have always been, you are going to lift your chin like a demonic lady who is not afraid of anyone and who certainly has no lessons to learn from anybody.

We are warriors, we live, we love, we dance like the devil, and we fuck everyone, okay?"

"... Okay... You’re right. People know how to separate things, don’t they? It doesn’t make me any less competent." I said, trying to reassure myself.

"Of course not. Everyone sees you as a woman very involved and devoted to her people.

I forbid you to be ashamed of anything. Your heart is your fight.

It’s all we have in the end, it’s what drives us forward in everything we do. Without the heart, nothing is lasting, and nothing is true.

It’s your life, and the people want a happy queen, not a slave to her fate.

Now eat something, you’re all white."

I am both panicked and confident. It is imperative that I get the upper hand before the meeting tonight.

I see Romeo on the other side standing at the other end of the room, he discusses with his colleagues. There’s one I don’t know, she’s pretty...

A smiling little blonde, a witch. The way she looks at him bothers me. By concentrating a little more, I guess that she is very attracted to him, that she is even completely addicted.

Of course, he has no idea. These guys... They are so blind...

She touches his arm, and talks to him, looking at him lovingly, I hope she’s not trying to bewitch him or something, and I don’t understand why he doesn’t take her hand away from him, what is he waiting for? That I rip her head off?

“Satine! Your eyes!!!!” Zied calls out to me.

“Red eyes!!! Hahaha, I knew it!! I knew you were more demonic than human!” Fanur is fed up.

“Wait, that mostly means she’s enraged, so calm down before she burns the whole table!” They all died laughing while I tried to regain my composure.

Luckily, Romeo ended up getting that damn hand off his arm.

It’s mine, no one touches him.

It will be complicated to wait to announce our union.
