The Journal of Memories

Chapter Vision

We both were still standing in the room, staring at each other. Luna was the first to snap out of the daze, “W-why would they want everyone’s brains wiped?”

My head got hit with an extreme pain, causing me to fall to the ground with my head in my hands. I screamed out in pain and closed my eyes. I felt Luna laying her hands on me, “Ben! What’s wrong?!”

I heard Macy barking. Luna shook me with panic in her voice, “Ben, what do I do? How can I help? Please...”

I faded out as everything went silent, the pain became to much to bare.

My dad was sitting at the table with my mom next to them. He looked hurt and had his head in his hands. They both thought I was asleep in my room but I woke up to get water, finding them like this. I was standing outside the dining room, peeking around the corner.

“Jenny, I don’t know what to do anymore.”

She gently rubbed his back, “We will figure it out. Just tell me.”

“We got someone into their company. He took some pictures and brought them back to us. These people are crazy and they only care for themselves. Hell, they already control almost the whole country with the amount technology people have... I just don’t want them after you guys either...”

My mom stopped him, “We can deal with it together. Just show me. I can’t handle seeing you like this.”

He sighed and pulled out some papers handed them to my mom. Her eyes grew wide and she gasped. He watched her reaction, “Those pictures were taken a couple of days ago... At first we thought the all the chemists they brought in were just for their new products but... then we saw the bomb technicians... They are making bombs! We have recorded that they have about twenty of them... This is way above what we ever imagined... I mean we are just scientists trying to study their technology but this... They have more control than the government.”

She dropped the photos, “Did you tell anyone about this?”

“We tried but government agents have been in there non-stop. When we went to the police, they said we were just crazy scientists... The guy that took those photos disappeared yesterday. Our lab is preparing for the worst at this point.”

My mom wrapped her arms around him, “Do not let Ben know of any of this. I don’t want him put into any danger, he is just a boy.”

My dad hugged her back, “If anything happens. I will find you guys and make sure you are safe. I love you guys so much. My lab is doing everything they can to ensure ours and our families safety.”

My mom hugged tighter, “Just be careful.”

“I will.”

My eyes flickered open. My head felt so heavy and my eyes felt like they were going to burst from their sockets. I remembered my surroundings as I was laying on the floor of the break room. I slowly lifted my hand to my head and pulled it back seeing it was red with blood.

That is a lot of blood.

I turned my head to see Luna jump from a chair and sit next to me, “Oh my god! I thought I lost you!”

Her eyes were red and her face stained with tears, “What happened? Why is there so much blood?”

She wiped her eyes, “You collapsed to the ground and started screaming in pain. Then, you passed out. When you nose started bleeding, I couldn’t make it stop... I was so panicked...”

I reached up and grabbed her hand, “It’s okay. I am here. I am not going anywhere.”

She looked like she was about to break out into tears but she laughed it off instead, “Your face looks like a Halloween costume gone wrong.”

She reached behind her and threw a cloth at me. I laughed and wiped off my face, “I almost died and you decide to insult me. Thanks.”

She laughed and gave me a bright smile, “Well it’s just part of my charm... Anyways while I was worrying about you, did you see anything when you passed out?”

I smiled back, “Yeah I had another vision thing.”

I changed to being serious, “We really have to find my dad. He knows about the bombs and who did it. He said he would find me and my mom if anything bad happened but I guess that never happened.”

She turned serious too, “Do you think his brain got wiped too?”

I shrugged, “I don’t know. It is still worth a try to at least look for his lab. Even if he isn’t there, some of his coworkers might be.”

She smiled and looked through the backpack, pulled out a map, “Well pick a place that looks good!”

I love how she can always change the mood so quickly.

I chuckled, “You know I can’t read.”

She playfully hit me, “You can still look and pick a place that stands out to you!”

I sighed, letting her win, and sat up looking at the map. I closed my eyes and put my finger down. She laughed, “Really, you had to pick Times Square?!”

“Really! I did. I just randomly picked. You are lying to me aren’t you?”

She smiled, “Well you will never know, unless you remember how to read.”

“You are so mean!”

She held her hand out for me to take and pulled me up, “We better get going. That’s is a long way from here and it will be getting dark in a couple of hours. With you driving it will take days.”

I rolled my eyes, “Well I am sorry. I can’t move all the cars that people abandoned from the rode. I also like driving slow. I don’t really remember how to drive very well.”

She laughed walking back into the cafe’s dining room, “Can you remember how to make me a cup of hot cocoa again? Oh... and Macy seems a little hungry.”

I followed behind her and Macy behind me, “Yes ma’am. What am I, your slave?”

Her eyes went dim to bright, “Yes!... at least if I am remembering what that is right.”

I chuckled and jumped behind the counter, “One cocoa and some dog food coming up!”
