The Invincible Young General by Kerr Temple

Chapter 7

Chapter 7

In the photo, Markus looked young and clean. He seemed very likable.

Aaron was so annoyed looking at the photo on the phone that he looked ready to bite Markus through the screen.

Samantha sighed. “Eight years have passed in the blink of an eye. I was still young and beautiful back then, but I’m old now. Hey, Aaron. It’s been eight years. Are you still mad at Markus?”

“Ill still be mad at him even after 80 years!” Aaron said angrily.

“Why are you so angry? Worst-case scenario, I’ll be the bad guy again. I’ll give him 200,000 dollars and tell him to leave Riverside City. You’re usually generous and broad-minded, but when it comes to Genevieve, you’re as narrow-minded as a mistress, Samantha teased.

Aaron had a helpless and even aggrieved look on his face. “What can I do? This kid has hurt my only daughter. I can’t be broad-minded. But…

“Forget about dealing with Markus this time. If you become the bad guy again, Genevieve will probably never forgive you for the rest of her life.”

Samantha smiled bitterly.

Then, she asked curiously, “Do you think Genevieve hasn’t forgotten Markus?”

“Obviously!” Aaron retorted. “Genevieve’s turning 30 in another year but she’s still single. Clearly, she hasn’t gotten over Markus yet. She’ll be 30 next year but she still makes me worried about her!”

Seeing Aaron, who was usually domineering in the business world, wallowing in self-pity, Samantha couldn’t help laughing. “So, you are aware. Since Markus is back too… why don’t you try accepting him?”

Aaron’s refusal was decisive. He said firmly. “No way! I’d rather Genevieve be alone for the rest of her life than let Markus be my son-in-lawl

Samantha couldn’t understand his vehement dislike of Markus. “I know Markus comes from an ordinary family, but so did you. Why do you have such strong prejudice against him?”

“You’re right that we both come from ordinary families but Markus is different. He’s a thug with a gambler for a father! He dropped out of school and became a gangster at the age of 16. I don’t like him not because he’s poor, but because he has a shady past. Back then, he deliberately approached Genevieve with ill intentions.

You haven’t seen the article in The Bugle, have you? A poor boy with bad conduct hooked up with a rich girl and suddenly became the son-in-law of a rich family. However, he got so corrupted by his desires that he killed both his father-in-law and mother-in-law. Is this the result of the decline in morality or the distortion of human nature?

“I get scared just thinking about what will happen if Genevieve marries Markus! What if…”

Samantha was a little stunned. “How can you take The Bugle seriously?”

“Who can guarantee that it won’t come true?”

“Oh, fine!” Samantha thought.

She had figured it out.

Even after so many years, Aaron had never given up his prejudice against Markus.

She couldn’t always speak up for outsiders.

“Well, like it or not, Markús is back. Genevieve will find out sooner or later. What do you plan to do?”

Aaron pondered for a moment before saying, “I’ll try paying him off first. Eight years ago, Markus agreed to leave Riverside City for 200,000 dollars. I’m sure he’ll do it again this time!”

Samantha corrected him, saying, “Genevieve despises him because of this. You can even say that she’s given up on men! But you know very well that there was another reason why Markus took the money.”

Of course, Aaron knew.

Back then, he arranged for Samantha to meet Markus. The first time they met, Samantha requested that Markus leave Riverside City for five years in exchange for 200,000 dollars but he refused.

But in less than two days, Markus contacted Samantha and asked for the money.

What reason would prompt Markus to take their money now, eight years after their initial offer?

Aaron thought for a moment and said, “If Markus doesn’t take the money, I’ll pay the Montague Crime Family to scare him away! In Riverside City, they’re still quite a scary forcel

Hearing this, Samantha’s face turned cold. “I told you to stay away from Angelo Montague. You’re not going to listen to

me?”

Aaron immediately plastered an apologetic sinile on his face. “Of course not. I take your words to heart, but.. we’re both in Riverside City and we need to engage with each other. But don’t worry. How can I not know what kind of person he is? I promite I’ll keep a distance from him.”

Hearing this, Samantha relaxed a little “Okay, at least you know that. But… are you sure you don’t need me to meet Markus again?

“Nopel” Aaron said righteously. “This time, I’ll take care of this myself. I promise I’ll make Markus leave Riverside City quietly within three days!”

The next night.

Riverside was dimly lit.

It was noisy inside the Insatiable Bar.

Men and women danced wildly on the dance floor.

Markus sat alone at the bar with a satisfied look in his eyes.

He hadn’t seen Pablo yet. Albert and Rocky weren’t here either.

But he wasn’t impatient. It was only a matter of time before they showed up.

Before that, he would take in the beautiful scenery from the bar and enjoy himself.

There weren’t so many women with thin and fair waists on the streets during the day.

Never mind inside the Greenvale Mental Institution.

There wasn’t a single nurse there who was even remotely pleasing to the eye.

This year, he had gotten desperate for women.

Many beautiful women had tried to hit on him but he rejected all of them.

Was it because he thought he was too good or noble?

Nope!

The main reason was that the beautiful women who hit on him didn’t meet Markus’s standards in terms of looks.

Meeting beautiful women was supposed to be a joy.

If he had to force himself, that would go against his goal of enjoying himself.

He was, after all, a man of taste.

“Drinking alone?”

Suddenly, Markus heard a sweet and soft voice.

His eyes lit up. It seemed that a woman who met his standards had arrived.

Judging from her voice, she should be quite pretty.

If they clicked…

He didn’t mind coming back another day to trash Pablo’s bar.

Markus turned his head slowly and said playfully, “I’m here alone just to wait for you.”

“Oh. Did you guess that I’d come?”

“Maybe it’s fate…”

Markus stopped speaking abruptly.

It was because he finally saw the woman’s face.

She wasn’t ugly.

She was young and beautiful, in fact.

In the Insatiable Bar, she stood out like a pure lily that had appeared in a sea of wild roses.

But the problem was…..

It was Josephine, the woman he had just met at the airport yesterday!

“Is it really fate? Markus, didn’t I give you my number? Why didn’t you call me?”

Josephine went back to her normal voice.

“Uh… I wanted to call. I mean, you did say you’d reward me! The problem is, I lost your number on the cab.”
