Chapter 22
“How is she?”
“Her vitals are stable and she looks healthy. If everything looks good by this afternoon, then she should be discharged this afternoon”.
“And why couldn’t things look good, Alan?”
“The real question is why you two are talking as if I’m still unconscious,” she mutters before rolling her green orbs.
“Because we both know that if it were up to you, you would have been out of here before intended, am I a wrong doctor?”, Lugar asks turning to Doctor Alan with a smug look.
“Yes you are,” he nodded smiling at Solani, “in fact I think you’re talking about yourself, Solani always listens to what I say”.
“Thank You Alan”, she smiles back at him.
“Okay what is this?,” Lugar says looking between Alan and Solani in confusion,” last time I checked you guys hated each other and now you too are acting like peanut butter and jelly”.
“Peanut butter and jelly?”, Alan asks, while Solani just smiles at Lugar.
“Yeah it’s a good metaphor, Alan,” he says shrugging cause the doctor to roll his eyes leaving them alone in the room.
“I think you broke him,” Solani says smiling while watching a frustrated Alan mutter the words ‘peanut butter and jelly’ under his breath.
“He’s fine”, he comments coming closer to her beside. He sits on the bed and watches her for a moment before letting his eyes drift towards the window.
She wonders what’s running through his mind, she would ask but he would only shrug and say nothing. He was just like his father, always kept things in before it was too late. So she decides to distract him on something else.
“So where are we at with Elena?”, she asks to only receive a mocking chuckle.
“She deems it was not them that had attacked and that it was some other pack but what she does not realise is that other packs in the region have been attacked, but she says we have no proof”, he huffs enclosing his hand in hers, “and she’s right. She claims her pack was attacked but we both know they weren’t”.
“So what now?”.
“Now we wait for Melinda to tell us what next, considering she is the head of the council after all”, he breathes squeezing her hand.
Silence falls between them and she watches as he stares at their joined hands and she instantly knows why he seems to be distracted.
“Lugar,” she merely whispered his name but he hears her, “Lugar look at me”.
And he’s eyes blue eyes rise to meet her green eyes. His eyes filled with so much vulnerability, she could see the faint red colour that told her he had shed some tears even if it was against his will. She could see his pain and she huffed, pulling him closer and wrapping her arms around his waist.
He held onto her tightly, tucking his head in her neck and she could feel his hot breath fanning her cheek, she could feel his intake of her scent and she could feel him relax in her arms.
“I thought I lost you,” he huffs hiding in her white hair,” you didn’t want to wake up Lani”.
“I’m awake now”
“After two weeks,” he holds her tighter,” Willy kept asking questions and I didn’t know how to answer him but I knew I wouldn’t let him see you like that. I didn’t want to see you like that, never….never again”.
She rubs his back up and down in a constant motion. Her thoughts running back and forth between him and William. Willy her little man, hoped he was strong, she knew he was okay but she wanted to see him. Wanted to see for herself that he was okay but first she had to make sure that Lugar was okay.
“You’re okay Lugar, I’m not going anywhere,” and she felt her wolf shift from the statement and the image of her mate clouded her mind.
She could see his grey eyes, she could feel his warmth, the way it had hugged her with so much comfort and compassion.
“Promise me,” she heard him whisper in her neck, and she felt him press his body closer to hers as if already telling her that he wasn’t going to let her go, “Lani promise me that you won’t leave us”.
She could remember the grey eyes as clear as day but in the distance, she could also Lugar’s eyes as well as Williams looking at her, broken and she hesitated but she answered him nonetheless.
