THE HYBRID WOLF

Chapter Chapter seven

Leila.

We go out to the camp field when we are done with breakfast.

"Where is your alpha? " I ask Caroline as we walk side by side.

"He arrived yesterday night, but I haven't seen him this morning yet, " she says with a knowing smile.

"And, yes. He is very dark and brooding but a softie under all that anger. You just need to look deep, deep inside to perceive the tenderness, " she says and we laugh.

"He lost his mate brutally. He has never been the same ever since, " she sighs and I can relate all too well.

"I lost my mate brutally too. Fatally I can even say. Not that he is dead, he just chose to mate and mark another woman without even breaking our bond properly. I almost died, but I didn't thanks to my adoptive parents, " I surprised myself for the second time this morning by opening up to this woman next to me.

Something about her just feels right. I want to be friends with her.

"You are strong enough for me to give you a pity look. I am proud of you. The good thing when you touch the ground is that you can only go up from there because you can't go any lower than that. And you my friend, the sky is waiting for you, " she beams at me and I can't help the shit-eating grin on my face.

"See you later, " she says when we have to separate into our various pack groups and I wave her bye-bye.

"Was it easier to make friends with someone who doesn't know how weird you are, or that you are a leftover? Maybe with this new friend, you might want to change your pack? I'd be happy to intercede for you before my mate, " Viviane whispers in my ears, her voice disgusting me to my core, but I say nothing.

One thing about dealing with a narcissistic brat is to never ever engage. I look straight ahead. She dragged that mate word like she wanted to hurt me, but the fury on her face was a clear indication of how pathetic she was at my silence.

She continues babbling in my ears but I tune her out. I don't even know when she realized she was a complete fool talking to herself and stomped off.

"Ok, the rule is simple. The first team to have their ball over the finish line of the opposite team wins. I need the best runners to advance, " Alpha John says and I don't move, even though I know no one here holds a candle to me.

"You'll all be at the front line. You'll be the ones carrying the ball, " he continues and they all nod.

"They will have to have a support system, so I need all the resistant ones to come forward, " Alpha John continues and I still do not move. At this point, I'm hoping that by some kind of miracle, they will leave me out.

"With your resistance, you will be able to relay when the people of the front line start getting tired, " he continues, and I must give it to him that his plan is not too bad.

"The strongest, some of you will have to push yourself to the limit by joining the first and the second group, to protect them from the offensive of our adversary and the remaining will serve as our defense, "As soon as he finishes people start moving to join the other two groups but I don't move. Guess I will be a defender then.

I jerk my head and see him give me a dirty smirk and I know trouble is not far away. I sigh waiting for the boom to drop. This was too good to be true.

"Leila, I want you to join the middle group, please, " he says smiling but it is a venomous smile.

"Yes, alpha. " I say moving to the resistant group. You know the group right? The one who has to run front when we have the ball and come back as fast as possible to assist in defense if we lose the ball. In simple words, the fools in the playground.

"ok. Go and change into the required attire and get on the field, " he says coming down from the rock he was standing on so he could have a clear view of all of us.

I quickly get to my room and shake my head when I see what this ' required attire' looks like.

I open the little bag and there is white sportswear consisting of short shorts and a T-shirt with the name 'Colorado pack' written in black on the back, and a pair of black sneakers.

I put them on, and goodness they are too form-fitting for my liking. The shorts reach my mid-thigh and if I stretch my arms up, you can see my tummy.

I get back to the field and some people double-take when they see me. I received many whistles mostly from the other pack members who were there to watch the game.

"Kick some ass, babe, " I hear a voice I now recognize and turn to blow a kiss to Caroline.

Some of my pack members have their mouths wide open. If flies were around here, I don't want to imagine what would happen.

I expected their reaction. They have never seen me in anything other than baggy clothes.
