Chapter I'm Yelling Timber
Ryanne and I stood there. Looking at it all. Everything needed to be destroyed in a wildfire. Magic fire can only be controlled to a small area, this large it could cause everything to catch and be almost impossible to put out. I had to think about what would work. This place didn't deserve to exist and needed to be put in the ground.
"I can call Margo for you and you can ask her for a spell that should work." Ryanne suggested and took his phone out. I out it to my ear when he handed it to me.
"Hello." The woman answered.
"What type of spell would you suggest to make this place disappear from existence? All I know are simple spells like fire, sleep, and stuff like that." I hope she has a simple answer as well.
"For a place that big, it would take a larger spell with stronger magic. I can come back if it doesn't work for you, I am unsure of the strength of your magic yet." She replies, "You are a descendant from the first mother. It's a family secret. Not every witch in the family has the powers of the first. Your mother had simple magic, while I was granted the strength. So if it doesn't work, just have Ryanne text me and I will come. Rather you try on your own first. I will text the words to his phone so I don't accidentally destroy the hospital I am in at the moment."
I say thank you and realize I have no idea about witches at this point. I only know about magic. I take a deep breath and let it out when the phone chimes with the text.
'Devorează ceea ce caut în fața mea și în locul ei crește o pădure' says the first text, followed by the translation. 'It devours what I seek before me, and in its place grows a forest.'
I take a deep breath to focus. My instincts walks to the north end of the land looking inwards where I kneel and touch the ground picturing the land and the horrors it had just a few hours ago. I feel the moon shining bright on me and feel the first bit of peace I have had all day.
Opening my eyes, I cite the spell with passion. To make a spell work, you let your mind take control. You have to imagine what you want effected and as you say it imagine the change you wish. Zoe taught me that.
Tree start sprouting while the land before us changes its shape. The buildings crumble like dirt. Within just a few seconds, the horrid place is now a beautiful forest. I get up, smile and turn around to see Ryanne.
He is standing there wide eyed and seemingly in shock. At that moment I remember what Margo said to me.
"I need your phone again." I say to him while grabbing for it in his hand. I click to call her back and before she can speak I say, "It worked. I think Ryanne is in shock though. He watched the entire spell and hasn't moved. Thank you."
"Wait, you are done already? That large of place would have taken at least an hour for full transformation for me! It took you seconds? Tell Ryanne to bring you to our pack house, I will meet you all there!" She says and hangs up.
"Ryanne, where's the pack house. We have to go meet Margo there." I also think of Colson with Koray and hope they are there as well. Ryanne, still in shock, finally moves and starts walking. Not saying a word. It makes me worry, sometimes when those without the gift experience magic, they can go into a zombie state of mind but still function. It usually only last a little while depending on the spell I think. I keep trying to think of the things Zoe had taught me. He can move at least so that is a start.
With Ryanne unable to move that fast at first, eventually he picked up a good speed, it takes us about two hours to get to New Orleans and to the pack house. He was still having the effects of the shock. Margo comes out to meet us and sees him.
"He still has the shock? It's as much as I thought. Ryanne, go to your guest room and take a nap. That should help it at least." She says with a little bit of urgency to her voice. "Follow me, Azula. I feel it is best to go over the history together and seek an answer to this all."
I follow and we enter a library she had a key to unlock. She went straight to her desk and pulled out a really old and really huge book. "This is Anca's book. It is passed to the strongest witch of the family. We add our own history and experiences in life for the next generation. With your powers, it will be yours as soon as you have trained enough. For now, we seek it for answers."
"What answers?" I ask.
"If you have strong powers, the only person who would have as such is Anca herself, the first witch. She was the first witch blessed with the power. Her history is in here. I am just unsure how her strength could be with you after so many generations. I wonder if it has to do with your parentage." She then starts thinking hard and looking into the book. "Ugh! Its useless. It is never this useless! I may have to do a spell for answers. Knowledge is the key to magic. Our magic strives on wisdom. We have to try."
She gets up and starts grabbing things and setting them on the floor. Candles, a jar of what I believe is blood, cauldron, and various ingredients are now being placed in designated locations. Margo lights the candles and motions me to come and join in a spot on the floor opposite of her. She draws a circle with the blood and adds symbols. The cauldron is laid onto it.
She starts putting in the ingredients into the cauldron with careful precision while saying the incantation. Everything goes dark around me. It all just disappears, including Margo herself.
