The Hunting

Chapter 27

Kia tossed and turned all night, sleep eluding her every step of the way.

"Kia..." a soft voice called out and Kia jumped up in surprise.

Her eyes landed on a figure standing by the window, the soft glow soothing her nerves as she realized who it was.

"Lay..." Kia whispered getting out of bed.

"I'm sorry for how things have turned out." Layana said, keeping her gaze out the window.

"Can't you do something?" Kia asked.

"No, I'm not the Moon Goddess yet. Otherwise I would have intervened." Layana whispered a single tear slipping from her eyes.

"Don't cry, Lay. I know you would have done something already if you were able." Kia said touching her shoulder.

A shiver ran through Layana and her eyes snapped up to Kia, worry and heartache written all over her face.

"I need to leave." Layana said, her body turning into light. "It's now or never." she yelled as she disappeared.

Kia stood there wondering what her sister meant, now or never? As she stood by the window a scent invaded her senses, she instantly knew who it belonged too and she knew what her sister had meant. Layana knew of her plans and she knew what was going to happen now, that's why she had to leave.

Kia shut out all other thoughts and focused on her task, she pretend to be lost in thought at the window, staring at the darkness beyond the glass. She heard the door open but ignored it, silent footsteps made their way over to her, slowly. He probably thought she didn't know he was there.

She saw his hand move forward from her peripheral vision and sidestepped it at the last second. She swung around and brought her knee up straight into his stomach, hard. He coughed and lost his balance, dropping to the floor like a dead fish. As he struggled to regain his breath, Kia kicked him in the face, sending him reeling backwards, bloody and sputtering.

She moved forward and grabbed her belt hanging on the chair near the window, she wrapped it around his throat and clamped down hard, cutting off his oxygen flow. He struggled and clawed at her, desperately trying to save his own life. But Kia had learned long ago that it's best to use their strength and resistance against them, the more he struggled the tighter her grip became.

Soon he stopped struggling and his head lulled to the side, she dropped the belt and his lifeless body rolled down to the ground.

Breathless she stepped back and tried to still her shaking hands, her hair was all messy and in her face, her palms were bloody from where the belt had cut into them. She composed herself, snapping out of the fear. She had more work to do, and she needed to be in control. She put on some shoes and grabbed her dagger in the closet, slipping it inside her left boot.

"So much for liking the fighters." Kia said as she walked past Dominic's body, not sparing him a second glance.

She slipped out of her room, it was well past midnight and nearing morning but everything was still pitch-black and quiet.

Kia decided to make a stop in the garden, just to add a layer or two of mud to mask her scent. Going back inside she quickly evaluated the situation in her head as she slipped through the shadows. There were about twelve guards at this building, along with six of the council members. The other six were in the building next door. She knew she had to keep everything quiet on this end, so not to alert everyone in the building over.

Moving up the stairs to the top floor, Kia planned out her attack. She'd start at the top and work her way down, then on to the next building. The top floor only had two council members, Daniel and Rupert, his second hand man. Neither of them were mated so she doubted they'd have any females with them. She spotted three guards as she slipped up the last few steps and into the hallway, two stationed near the rooms and another one making rounds across the floor.

She crept forward through the shadows, keeping her movements slow as not to attract attention to herself. The guard making rounds turned a corner and Kia moved in behind him, snapping his neck before he could so much as blink from the surprise. She gently dragged his body into a closet and closed the door, scanning the hallway and making sure no one heard anything. Once she was satisfied that she still had the element of surprise she crept back to the other two. The rooms were only a few doors apart and she knew she'd have to lead one away or else she'd be caught.

Next to councilman Ruperts room was a door with a staircase leading down to the level below, Kia slipped inside without the guards noticing her and made some noise on the stairway. The guard closest moved to investigate, Kia threw herself on the ground and pretend sobbed. The guard approached her with soft footfalls.

"Are you alright, Kia?" he asked as he bent down to her level. As he was just about to grab her chin to make her face him when she buried the dagger she had in her boot, in his neck. His eyes went wide and he tried yelling but the blood poring out of his wound made it come out as a garbled mess. He dropped down and Kia pulled the knife out, letting all the blood rush out at once. Moving him to a dark corner, she made her way back up to kill the last guard.

Once at the top, she slowly opened the door.

"What was it?" the guard whisper-yelled.

When she didn't answer he stepped closer to examine the situation. Once he was close enough she swung the door open all the way, hitting him full force on the nose. He stumbled back, reaching for his own weapon, but Kia beat him to it. She jumped onto him and wrapped her arms around his neck. He stumbled and fell to the floor, landing on Kia but she didn't let go. He stopped breathing soon and she let go of his neck, brushing her hair out of her face once more.

Making her way over to the bedrooms she decided to just sneak in and stab both of them in the heart, quick and easy.

Luckily for Kia, most of the council members were older people, so they were deep sleepers. She killed both men without much trouble and slipped back down the stairs to the level below hers. There, four guards were making their way around, and the rest of the councilmembers rooms were scattered throughout the floorspace. Two around the corner to the left side and two down the hall on the right.

She led two guards into a room and killed them there, the other two she caught of guard on their rounds. She started with councilor Johnathan whose room was the farthest to the left, a few doors from there she sunk the dagged into councilwoman Maria's chest. Ricon and Robert, both brothers, were on the right side two doors separating their rooms. Ricon's room was empty and Kia felt a flash of panic surge through her, she made her way over to Robert's room only to stop dead in her tracks when she heard moaning coming from inside. Dammit. She cursed in her head, trying to think of how to handle this.

She quickly removed her shoes and took off her t-shirt, leaving her in pajama shorts and a sports bra. She opened the door and put a sweet smile on her face. Inside she saw a blonde woman naked on the bed between the two brothers.

They all stopped to look at her,

"Get out." Ricon growled. But Robert just stared at her with black lustfull eyes.

"I just want to join in on the fun." Kia said, tracing her curved seductively.

Both brothers growled, before Robert got up and made his way over to Kia. His hands encircled her waist and he picked her up, she threw her legs around his hips to steady herself as he walked her over to the bed. Kia quickly turned them over so she was on top and had the upper hand. Reaching into her shorts she pulled out the dagger and stabbed Robert before turning to Ricon and slitting his throat, he slipped backwards off the bed with a gasp and Kia clamped a hand over the blondes mouth. Her eyes bloodshot and serious as she looked the girl over.

"I'm going to take my hand away now, if you scream I'll kill you." Kia warned and the girl shook her head, nodding her understanding.

As Kia removed her hand she noticed some bruises on the girls body. "Were you here because you wanted to be or because you had to be?" Kia asked.

The girl swallowed hard and met Kia's eyes, she looked scared. "Had to be." she whispered.

Kia nodded, "You may leave now, they won't ever hurt you again." she said as she got up off of Robert and moved to the door. She heard a shuffle behind her and the felt small arms wrap around her from behind.

"Thank you." the girl whispered before she let go.

Kia grabbed her arm, "Go to my room, there's clean clothes and food. Stay there until I come get you, okay?" Kia said, her grip unrelenting.

The girl nodded and took off in the direction of Kia's room. She watched her go before grabbing her shoes and putting them back on, she slipped her t-shirt on and moved out to find the rest of the guards outside.

They were all scattered about outside of the building, each patrolling a different section. She observed the opposite building for a while to see how the guards moved about, just to be sure they didn't catch her in the act. Next she observed the guard surrounding the building she was at and devised a plan to take each of them out where the others won't see. She snuck up on each of the guards once they entered their blindspots and snapped their necks. Some of them gave a bit of a fight but since none of them saw her coming she over powered them quick enough. As the last guard dropped to the ground she made her way to the other building. Deciding to work this one from the outside in. She did the same with the six guards patrolling the outside and then walked inside.

She barely ever went into this building because that's where Councilman Dominic lived, but she knew the layout and where the rooms where, courtesy of a History book they stuffed in her hands.

On the bottom level there was only one guard, which she stabbed in the neck. The second level had three guards and two council members, since Dominic was already dead in her room. She took out each of the guards in turn and then proceeded to kill councilman Damian and Councilwoman Eliza. She never liked Eliza much, so killing her was almost thrilling.

The third floor had one guard posted outside of Councilman Greyson's room, Kia wondered why since he was at Riverdale. She crept up to the guard and snapped his neck, her curiosity winning out she opened Greyson's door and slipped inside. Her stomach twisted as she looked around, everywhere on the walls there were maps of all the packs, each map had little post-it notes on them in what she could only assume was Greyson's handwriting, lists of how many pack members, how many warriors, who the Alphas were etc. All pack info that you'd need to win a war.

A sound from the door across the room made Kia jump, she slowly moved towards it and heard whimpering coming from inside. She cautiously opened the door and found a woman, chained to the wall, curled into a ball and rocking herself back and forth.

Kia slowly approached her, "Are you okay?" she asked.

The woman's head snapped up and she looked at Kia with bewilderment and fear. "I'm not here to hurt you." Kia said, showing her hands to the woman as a sign of peace.

"Who are you?" Kia asked.

"Elizabeth." the woman whispered.

"Are you Greyson's mate?" Kia asked.

The womans eyes went wide, "No." she snapped. "I'm his prisoner. His sex-toy."

Kia gasped and stared at the woman with an open mouth. Snapping out of it she searched the room for a key, wanting to let her out of her chains.

"It's no use, he takes them with him." Elizabeth said, sighing.

"Okay, I'm on a mission right now, but as soon as I'm done, I'm coming back for you. Key or not, we're getting you out of here." Kia said, she moved into the room again and grabbed a blanket. Returning to Elizabeth she draped it over her shaking shoulders."Hang in there for just a while longer?" Kia asked and Elizabeth nod her head. Kia smiled at her and left to finish her job.

On the top floor Kia only had two council members left, and only one more guard. He was nodding off against a wall and gasped loudly when Kia dove her dagger into his throat. Councilwoman Lucy's room was up first, since she was an older woman Kia had not trouble killing her in her sleep. Down the hall all the way to the far left was Councilwoman Evangeline's room, everytime Kia was near her she through of Tobias and the little girl he couldn't help.

To Kia's horror, Evangeline wasn't asleep. She was sitting at her desk, painting roses on a cavas. As she entered the councilwoman started laughing.

"I was wondering when you were going to fight back." Evangeline said, slowly turning in her chair.

Kia stood in the middle of the room, breathing hard, covered in blood and scratches.

"Seems you've been busy tonight?" Evangeline said with a smile. "Am I the last one left?" she asked.

"Yes, but don't worry, you won't be for long." Kia said, gripping the dagger in her hand tightly.

Evangeline laughed as she stood up, "Care if I defend my life?" she asked, shaking off her robe.

"That's normally the honorable thing to do." Kia said, eying her closely.

The councilwoman nodded and lunged forward, lashings out at Kia with everything she had. Kia had to admit she was a capable fighter, but she was nowhere near Kia's level or skill. Kia blocked each of her attacks, attempting to tire her out before she attacked herself. Once Kia noticed a slow in Evangeline's attacks she started hitting back, throwing punches at her from all angles, finally she kicked her in the face, hard enough to send her tumbling to the floor. Once she was down Kia straddled her waist and sunk the dagger deep into her chest, watching as the life drained from her eyes.

She stumbled off of her and sunk down against the wall, trying to catch her breath. She was exhausted, mentally, physically, emotionally. She just wanted to go back to her normal life.

Spotting a phone on the desk, Kia got up and grabbed it, dialing her father's number. After a few rings her picked up.

"Clayton." he said, his voice thick with sleep.

"Kill Greyson." Kia instructed before she hung up again. Her emotions were to messy and she didn't have time to cry right now.

She pulled herself together and went in search of something to help her free Elizabeth and then she had to find the blonde girl as well.
