The Hunting

Chapter 14

Knock knock

Kia opened their front door and bowed her head when she saw the Alpha standing on the other side.

"Alpha" she said, keeping her gaze down.

"Is your father here?" he asked.

"Alpha." Clayton's voice boomed out from behind them. "What can I do for you?" Clayton asked.

"I have something we need to discuss." he said, his gaze sweeping over Kia.

"Very well, my office or yours?" Clayton asked.

"Yours will do." the Alpha said as he made his way through the house to the office.

"So, Henry... What's this about?" Clayton asked once he closed the door.

"How much do you know of Tobias' pack?" Henry asked, sitting down on the edge of the table.

"Not much else than the rumors we all hear, other than that I know he has two older brothers and that his father never really cared about him much." Clay said as he rested against the doorframe.

"Well, he's taking an interest now." Henry said, sighing deeply.

"What do you mean?" Clay asked, his wolf feeling uneasy.

"Alpha Morrison of Blood moon, is coming to visit us. Said he wants to see his son and maybe discuss becoming an ally with Riverdale, which I hardly believe. He's here for something else, I can feel it. My wolf can feel it." Henry said.

"Damn that man, when is he coming?" Clay asked.

"He'll be here in about an hour." Henry said, rubbing his face. "Make sure you put on a good show with the warriors when he gets here, just so he won't get any ideas." Henry said.

"It would be my pleasure. I'll also set up a patrol for your house during his stay, just in case he's here for you, Alpha." Clay said and Henry nod along to his plan.

"We need to keep a close eye on him, Clay. A very close eye." Henry said as he stood up and clapped Clayton on the shoulder, making his way out of the office. "I'll see you later, do inform your son-in-law." Henry said with a chuckle.

Clayton mumbled unintelligible things as he made his way into the kitchen where his family was looking at him with questioning eyes.

"Everything alright?" Eliana asked, sensing her mates distress.

"No..." Clayton grumbled, plopping down on the stool, dragging the coffee closer. "Too damn early in the morning for all this stress..." he said under his breath, taking a huge gulp of coffee.

"Tobias..." he said, eying his daughters mate. "You're getting a visitor today." he growled. Tobias looked uneasy.

"Who?" Tobias asked, clenching his jaw, he had a feeling he already knew who.

"Your father." Clayton said, confirming his suspicion.

"I don't understand... You said your father doesn't care about you?" Kia asked, looking at Tobias.

"Oh he doesn't, he's just using me as an excuse." he said to her. "Sir, if you need me for anything, just say the word. He's here for trouble and I'll be damned if I let him hurt someone again." Tobias said to Clayton.

"We suspect as much, Alpha Henry and I are both unsettled by this news, but he'll be here in an hour so we best make haste on our plans." Clayton said.

"Kia, I want you to take over training today. I need to be by Henry's side." Clay said to his daughter. "Tobias, you can train with them, but you'll be joining on the extra patrol we're setting up. Also if your father says anything to you, I want to know about it." he said and Tobias gave him a nod.

They all ate breakfast in uncomfortable silence, each dreading the upcoming visit for different reasons.

After breakfast they all set off to do what needed to be done for the other Alphas arrival.

Since Clayton was going to do suicide drills today, Kia thought she'd up the game on that a bit, just to show off their warriors.

"Alright boys..." she said, clapping her hands together to get everyone's attention. "As you all know we're getting an unexpected visitor today, so we decided to showcase our strengths in training today, to discourage them from doing anything stupid." Kia said.

"We'll still be doing suicide drills, but after you have completed the course you'll report to me for one-on-one combat, so we can test your fighting skills when you're dead-ass tired." Kia said, smiling at the groans she got as reply.

"Ready?" she asked, they all nodded or gave a thumbs up.

"Tobias, you go first please." she said and stood back to watch him complete the course.

He was just a few seconds off from her time but when he came up to her he was sweaty and breathing heavily, clearly exhausted.

"Attack me." Kia said, placing her hands behind her back. She had no intention of hurting any of the warriors today.

Tobias stumbled forward and tried to punch her, which she dogged and then tripped him. He went crashing to the ground, taking longer than usual to yet back up again. Kia had him throw a few punches her way and then stopped the fight.

"That was... Pathetic." she said, shaking her head. "Next" she yelled.

They continued on like this until all the warriors had gone through the course and Kia, all of them failing miserably to succeed in attacking her.

"Form a line." Kia yelled and they all shuffled into line. Kia walked down them and selected half of them to stand accross from the line, she rearranged them a bit, making sure to get good fits for combat training.

"Last one standing, gets to skip training tomorrow." Kia said, eying the men. "Fight." she said.

The warriors went at each other, each trying to get the other one down. After the first round Kia matched the winners against each other and had them fight again, continuing at that pace until only two warriors remained.

"You're the last two, whichever one wins now will be having a free day tomorrow." Kia said eying the men in front of her.

Surprisingly Tobias made it to the last round, considering his poor performance after the course, and with him was one of Clayton's best warriors, Kent.

"Kent, defend your left, control your breathing." Kia said, circling the two men. "Tobias, watch your blindspots, put more force into your attacks." she said, stopping when she was in between them.

"Attack." she yelled as she stepped backwards to let them have at each other. Out of the corner of her eye she caught a glimps of Tobias' father walking along with Alpha Henry and her father, approaching the training grounds. She forced herself to focus on the fight.

"Kent, your left is weak. Focus on protecting yourself!" Kia yelled, walking around the fighting pair to observe them from all angles.

"No Tobias, watch your enemy at all times. Don't lose sight of him, don't let him surprise you." Kia commanded.

The fight dragged on, Kia's instructions laced with her growing frustration. Finally she couldn't take it anymore and she stepped in, grabbing both warriors at the throat and slamming them backwards into the ground. They both let out yips of surprise and pain as they hit the ground, sending the dust flying into the air around them.

"What did I say about expecting the unexpected?" Kia yelled, glaring at the two of them. They coughed and stood up, dusting themselves off while mumbling apologies.

"Ah don't be too disappointed, Tobias never could succeed in anything." Kia heard someone say from behind her.

"Ten mile run, off you go." Kia said, motioning for everyone to go. "In human form." she yelled after them.

"Alphas, father." she said, acknowledging their presence.

"Kia, meet Alpha Morris." Her father said and she turned to him, bowing her head slightly.

"Alpha Morris, it's a pleasure to meet you." she said.

"As you my dear, I heard you are Tobias' mate?" Alpha Morris said, eying her up and down. "Seems he got lucky, you're very powerful, and clearly an excellent warrior." he said, motioning to where the warriors had just been fighting.

"Thank you for your kind words, Alpha Morris." Kia said, smiling at him even though everything in her wanted her to run away.

"Seems training went well today?" Alpha Henry asked.

"Yes, Alpha. They did well, improving every day." Kia said.

"That's good." Alpha Henry said, turning to his companions. "Shall we continue with the tour?" he asked and his companions nodded, Alpha Morris staring at Kia.

"Kia, would you and Tobias please join us once training is finished?" Alpha Morris asked, looking to Alpha Henry for permission, finding a quick nod.

"Of course, Alpha." Kia said, bowing as they left.

"I don't like him..." Niri said in her head.

"Yeah, neither do I. Something about him is familiar though." Kia said as she watched the warriors come back from their run, some collapsing once they reached her.

"You guys really suck." she said once they were all there. "You're great warriors and you have the skills, but you're not fit enough. You need to start taking your fitness seriously." Kia scolded.

"You're dismissed for the day." she said and they all breathed a sigh of relief.

"Tobias, we need to go." Kia said, giving him a warm simle.

"Let me guess, my father wants to see us?" he asked and she only nodded, taking his hand into hers.

"Will you help me, Kia?" Tobias asked after a while of them walking.

"With?" Kia asked.

"My training? I'd like to become just as good as you are." he said.

"Sure, I'll help you." Kia said, squeezing his hand.

"Now, let's go face the devil." Tobias said with a smirk as they neared the pack house.
