Chapter 20~Back to Life
“Hell no.” Lucifer said immediately.
“Luce please.” She begged.
“What is it with you and bad decisions?” He asked glaring at her.
“Luce-”
“I mean did you forget she tried to kill us?” He asked cutting her off.
“Luce-”
“Or maybe-”
“WILL YOU JUST SHUT THE FUCK UP AND LISTEN?” Phoenix pleaded, cutting him off.
“She was my best friend.” She added softly. Lucifer froze at that as he took her in. She took a deep breath and sat down.
“Hey, are you okay?” I asked walking up to the mysterious girl. She ignored me and kept her head buried in her knees. Her shoulders stopped shaking making it harder for me to tell if she was crying or just cold. I stopped when I was beside her and sat down. She kept her head down for a minute but slowly picked her head up to look at me. I was wearing a simple short white dress that was cut off a little above my knees and hugged my breast. My red hair was curled into big curls and was flowing freely down my back. She stared at my hair for a second before taking my whole face in. My red hair contrasted my sea-green eyes and she seemed to take that in. I wasn’t wearing any makeup other than mascara and red lipstick. She looked down at the heels in my hand and then down to the sneakers that were on my feet. She cocked an eyebrow but didn’t say a word. She stayed silent as I started to take her in. Her eyes were darker green than mine like a dark emerald and her hair was a pitch black. Her pink lips were small and chapped and were shivering. I frowned as I took in the bruises that she tried to hide with the cloth that was wrapped around her.“Katrina.” I said smiling at her and holding my hand out for her to take. She stared at it for a minute before putting her head back down on her knees.
“What-”
“Katrina, what are you doing here?” A voice said approaching me. I turned to see the moon goddess walking towards me with a frown etched on her face.
“I was suffocating in there.” I answered simply.
“They were just being curious.” She said stopping a could of feet away from me.
“No, they were nitpicking because I and I quote ‘wasn’t wearing a ball gown to a ball’ pretentious asses..” I said rolling my eyes.
“That’s not true.” She said softly. I raised an eyebrow at her and scoffed.
“Anyways this is-” I turned to face the girl I was just talking to and frowned when I noticed she was gone.
“Let’s go.” The moon goddess said softly.
“But-” I cut myself off as I realized there wasn’t much for me to say. I nodded my head stood up before dusting myself off. I walked up to her side and she looked me over before looking back at where I was and then walking off. I followed after her quietly as I lost myself in my thoughts.
‘You weren’t hallucinating her. She was really there.’ My wolf said softly. I snapped out of my thoughts and smiled.
‘Good, then I’m not crazy.’ I responded.
‘I didn’t say all of that.’ She teased making me laugh. The moon goddess looked over her shoulder at me with a weirded outlook and I smiled sheepishly. I hadn’t realized how far I’d walked until we arrived back at the palace the ball was being held at. We said our goodbyes ‘properly’ before going home.
(TIME SKIP-THE NEXT MORNING)
“Let’s go.” The moon goddess said knocking on my door. I nodded my head and looked at myself in the mirror one last time before following after her. I rolled my eyes as the limo pulled up in front of the house.
“Can’t we at least pretend to be normal?” I whispered as we walked up to it.
“Normal?”
“Not rich.” I mumbled smiling at the chauffer and climbing into the car. She studied me for a minute but didn’t say anything.
We spent the whole day shopping for things I promise you-we didn’t need.
“I’m going for a run.” I said before putting my bags in the car.
“But-okay, be safe.” She said before kissing the top of my head. I smiled at her before running off. I smiled as a cliff came into view and I ran faster. I jumped off and smiled as the wind began rushing past my face. By the time I landed on the floor I was in my wolves form. I let her take full control and sat back as she hunted and went for a swim.
“Stop.” A weak voice pleaded. I picked my head up in curiosity and growled when a scream ripped through the woods. My wolf gave me control back and I took off in the direction of the scream. I growled as the girl I met yesterday came into view. She was hugged into a ball on the ground with two men standing over her.
“The great Maleficent.” The one on the left chuckled looking down at her. He pulled his leg back and kicked her making her whimper.
‘Kill them both.’ I barked giving my wolf full control. She stepped out of the shadows and growled making the men’s head snap to her. Their eyes widened slightly and they looked at each other before charging towards me. My wolf ripped through them easily and shook out her fur before turning her attention to Maleficent. She took a step towards her only for Mal to cower away. She took another step forward and Mal’s eyes filled with tears as she stepped back again.
‘Maybe you should try.’ My wolf said gently before giving me control again. I turned into my human form and nervously rubbed my hands on my jeans. Maleficent stared at me wide-eyed and I took a small step towards her.
“Um, are-are you okay?” I asked softly. She stared at me for a second before slowly nodding her head. I clasped my hands behind my back and nervously rocked back and forth on my feet.
“Can you stand?” I asked. She nodded her head and weakly grabbed onto the wall as she propped herself up.
“I’ve been looking for you everywhere.” The moon goddess said from behind me. I turned to face her and gave her a sheepish smile.
“I-”
“Let’s just go.” She said before turning around and walking towards the car. I turned to face Maleficent and gave her a small smile.
“Will you come?” I asked softly. She stared at me wide-eyed and started to shake her head.
“Come on.” I said holding my hand out for her. She looked at it skeptically and down at the men I’d just killed.
“I won’t hurt you.” I promised walking up to her. She nodded sharply and pushed herself off the wall. I watched wide-eyed as her eyes rolled to the back of her head and she fell in my arms.
‘A little help.’ I mumbled to my wolf.
‘Oh right. I was kind of enjoying watching you struggle.’ She teased. I rolled my eyes at her before easily picking up Maleficent. I walked over to the car and ignored the moon goddess’s gaze as I put Mal in first and climbed in afterward.
We arrived home shortly and I took Mal into my bathroom before showering her and cleaning the wounds on her body. I bit my lip hard to keep in my tears when I noticed two large scars going down her back. I blinked out of it and found a pair of my pajamas before putting her into them and resting her on my bed.
“After that day we kind of became inseparable.” She said softly. Lucifer looked over at her and frowned. He could sense the pain coming from her in waves and he couldn’t begin to try and understand it.
“I’ll help you.” He mumbled rubbing his forehead tiredly. Phoenix perked up and smiled brightly.
“Really?” She asked standing up.
“Yeah.” He said clearing his throat and scratching the back of his head nervously. Phoenix squealed happily and ran into his arms. Lucifer tensed but Phoenix didn’t even notice. She attacked his face in kisses and froze when she realized what she was doing.
“Sorry.” She whispered pulling away.
“It’s fine.” Lucifer said clearing his throat again.
“What do we need?” Phoenix asked after minutes of the two of them just staring at each other.
“Her body.” Lucifer said holding his hands out. Phoenix looked at them before walking up to him. She hesitated for a second before putting her hands in his. She kept her eyes on his chest as she did her best to avoid eye contact.
“Just trust me.” Lucifer said mentally rolling his eyes. Phoenix frowned and slowly looked into his eyes.
“With my life.” She whispered with a small smile. Lucifer’s eyes widened at her words and her smile grew.
“So are we doing this or what?” She asked softly. Lucifer bit back a smirk and nodded his head. He closed his eyes and Phoenix followed suit. She slowed her breathing down as she let her powers flow through her. Her eyes popped open to meet Lucifer’s red ones and she had no doubt in her mind hers were white. A light went off in the room alerting everybody and the ran into the room to see Lucifer and Phoenix holding hands with Maleficent’s lifeless body floating on top of them. Peter’s eyes landed on the dagger implanted in her forehead and felt his heart clench. He promised Katrina he would protect Mal with his life and he’d broken it. He angrily shoved his hands in his pockets as he glared at Phoenix and Lucifer.
“What the fuck-”
He cut himself off as the dagger suddenly flew out of Maleficent’s head and the wound healed perfectly. Maleficent gasped and her green eyes flung open. The power that was coming from Lucifer and Phoenix began slowly fading away and they took a step away from each other as Maleficent landed between the two of them. Maleficent looked between the two of them before swinging her fist. Phoenix dogged it easily and reflectively threw her own to Maleficent's stomach. Maleficent suddenly flew across the room and screamed in frustration.
"Stop." Phoenix growled.
"You-"
"Mal stop it." Peter said cutting her off. Maleficent's eyes went over to him and her cold eyes warmed.
"Pete." She whispered smiling. Phoenix let her go and watched as she ran into Peter's arms. Her heart clenched and her eyes filled with tears. She took a deep breath and put her head down as she prepared to walk out of the room.
"Thank you." Peter said grabbing her arm. She kept her head down but nodded. She gently pulled away from him before turning into her wolf and running out of the house.
