After driving the car away for a while, unable to contain himself any longer, Benjamin pulled over and stopped the car at the side of the road. “Dad, if it isn’t Jeremy, then we’ve basically ended up offending the Gardner family again!”
Gideon’s expression was grim. “If it’s not Jeremy, then who else could it be?”
“Perhaps we misunderstood Aurelia. Maybe Aurelia didn’t do anything?” Luna pondered all possibilities.
Throughout the entire ordeal, no matter how much they interrogated Aurelia, she never admitted anything.
They simply didn’t believe her.
“There must be someone backing her. Otherwise, how could she have joined Old Mr. Gardner’s team?” Benjamin always looked down on Aurelia.
To him, she was a woman with no particular skills, whose only asset was a face that could attract a second glance from men. Yet, that woman managed to join a team that many people in Jacaster aspired to be part of. Hence, he refused to believe she was invited into the team due to her own capabilities.
“She’s become distant from us now, and whenever she sees us, she just wants to leave. No matter how much we question her, she never tells the truth. We can only confront her with the evidence.” Luna was intently looking at the photo on her phone. It must be Jeremy. Only he makes sense.
“Have your older brother take the photo and ask Xavier,” Gideon told Benjamin.
After some thought, Benjamin responded, “All right.”
Meanwhile, Aurelia had already changed her clothes and descended from the upstairs.
She had made plans with Nancy.
Matthew also had an appointment, but he was waiting for her to leave together..
“Jeremy mentioned that he had already sent them away,” said Matthew.
Aurelia nodded. “They probably won’t let the matter rest easily. If Mr. Gardner’s fiancée has misunderstandings, I can explain. Could you relay this to Mr. Gardner for me?”
“They don’t deserve to be your family,” Matthew stated with absolute certainty.

“Do you know why I agreed to you so swiftly that day now? It’s because when you saw Melanie, you didn’t believe her. You’re different fromthe others in the Leedon family. You have a keen eye for appraising a pretentious b*tch. As such, I know that in our future life together, where we keep a courteous distance, there won’t be such chaos. This is what I’m hoping for, so our future is promising.” Aurelia expressed her inner thoughts.
Matthew gazed deeply at Aurelia. Her “Keep a courteous distance” strangely sounded grating to his ears. “Trust is paramount between us. Your family members may have their flaws, but compared to some of mine, they’re practically saints. Aurelia, by marrying you, I’m the one who got the better end of the deal.”

Aurelia flashed a smile. “Since you’ve taken advantage of me, you better treat me well in the future. Otherwise, when all the predators lurking behind you scare me, I’ll run away faster than anyone.”

Although she never asked him if he had any other family members besides Mabel, Mabel herself never mentioned anyone else from the Quigley family either.
That indicated the others were either not worth mentioning or they were on a different path than them.
Matthew smiled, his dark eyes seemingly sparkling with starlight.
At Phyllis‘ residence, Charlie didn’t have much work that day. When he returned, he was carrying two large bags of items he bought for his mother and Herbert.
Charlie had taken care of all the necessities and even bought Herbert a pair of basketball shoes. Herbert loved to play basketball, but he didn’t have a decent pair of shoes for the sport. Charlie had recently played the role of a supporting male character, so his pay had increased,
The first thing that came to his mind was to improve the living conditions of his family.
He also bought stuff for Aurelia.
“Mom, I’ve never seen you prepare a full table of dishes before when I came home. Why is there so much food today? Isn’t Auri not coming home today?” Charlie asked.
When Charlie suddenly witnessed such high–level treatment, his eyes almost popped out in surprise.
The table was laden with all his mother’s signature dishes. Even though her children had been eating them. since childhood, they had never grown tired of them. The food at the restaurants simply couldn’t compare to their mother’s culinary skills.
The food Charlie are on the film set was, in his view, merely a means of staving off hunger.
As such, every so often, he would long to return home for a meal cooked by his mother.
Phyllis was busy cooking and didn’t hear Charlie’s question.
Herbert emerged from his room, clutching a book, his face cold as he said, “It’s because we’re expecting guests.
“Guests?” Charlie was somewhat dumbfounded. What guests could we have? We haven’t been in Jacaster for long and don’t have any relatives here. As for our own friends, we meet them outside and won’t bring them home. Could it be Mom invited new friends she made at work?
Herbert’s expression was somewhat strained as he glanced toward the kitchen. “It’s Melanie.”
Upon hearing the name Melanie, Charlie frowned. “Her?”
“Mom said Melanie realized her mistake,” Herbert sneered.
Melanie will only realize her mistake when pigs can fly. She must be up to something since she’s not the type to show up for no reason. Charlie frowned deeply and said, “Mom couldn’t have possibly believed it, could she?”
Then, as he gazed at the table full of dishes, his brows furrowed even more. “Seems like she does. Fine. let’s see what game Melanie’s trying to play.” Does she really think she is the only smart one and everyone else is a fool? She definitely doesn’t have any good intentions.

“The thought of eating with her makes me feel nauseous.” Herbert’s eyebrows nearly knitted together in
distaste.
Both brothers felt that their mother was too easily deceived,
Having encountered Melanie a few times in the past, they were well aware of her character. Thus, her sudden shift in demeanor was definitely driven by some underlying reason.
Meanwhile, Melanie had arrived at the entrance of the apartment downstairs.
It was Melanie’s first visit. She looked around the aging residential area and the dark apartment building within. The entrance doors were wide open, without even a lock in place.
Her designer–clad appearance was utterly out of place there.
At that moment, someone just so happened to descend the stairs and whistled appreciatively upon seeing
her.
Melanie wore an expression of disgust. The people living here have absolutely no manners!
Suppressing her disdain, she ascended the stairs in her high heels.
The building was a total of seven stories high, and as it turned out, Phyllis‘ family lived on the top floor. Melanie’s disdain toward Phyllis grew as she went up further. I am absolutely not going back to Phyllis‘ side! If I have to endure such a miserable life, I may as well be dead! However, it won’t be too bad if I can make Aurelia feel disgusted and leave her with no place to turn.
Upon reaching the seventh floor, she knocked on Phyllis‘ door.
The door didn’t open right away because neither Herbert nor Charlie wanted to answer the door.
After glancing at Phyllis, who was busy in the kitchen, Charlie said with a hint of resignation, “Guess we’ll just have to let Mom give up hope then.”
“You’re my older brother, so you open the door,” Herbert said, staring at the door as if he was facing a
Scourge.
The scene that unfolded at the mall last time was still vivid in his memory.
Raising an eyebrow, Charlie went to open the door.-
“Hello, second brother.” The moment Melanie saw Charlic, her smile was incredibly sweet
Charlie rubbed his arm, feeling the goosebumps that appeared. “Your second brother is Benjamin. Don’t call me that.”
Melanie gritted her teeth in secret yet managed to reply with a sweet smile, “He might be my second brother too, but you are my true second brother.”
