The Heart Sees

I was discussing progress, or rather lack of progress, on finding Chase when I smelled my mate at the door. Terry must have realized it was her as well because he walked over and opened it for her. They exchanged a few words and I noticed she was carrying a cherry pie by the smell.

I smiled to myself, clearly Liam is trying to re-create Lu's past experiences before she lost her memory. It has been really hard seeing her and remembering all of the things we did together that she can't. I wish she would remember me but I also am glad that she has forgotten all of the terrible things that happened to her.

As her chosen mate before this I should have protected her better... I should have fought harder. I shouldn't have let her give herself up to save me. If she hadn't then none of those horrible things would have happened to her... and I would most likely be dead.

I heard the door close and focused on the sound of my mate. "Hi Alpha" she said softly. I wish that she would just call me Troy, but I have to be gentle with her, I know it will take her time to get used go me again

"Hi Lu, please call me Troy" I smiled at her and heard some shuffling as she got a bit closer. "Is there something you needed?" I asked when she was still quiet.

"I made something for you" she said.

"Oh? What did you make?" I asked as I walked towards her, slowly destroying the distance between us. I heard her shakey breaths as she got nervous or excited... it was hard to tell.

"Umm...." she stuttered. "Some pie... I hope you like it" she said cutely.

"What did I do to deserve this surprise?" I asked curiously.

"Well you have been nice to me.... helping me with food and things" she said as a blush coated her cheeks.

"I enjoy doing those things Lu, it's my responsibility and pleasure as a mate to look after you" I smiled, trying to reassure her.

"Oh" she said, seeming stunned. I stepped closer leaving less than a foot between us, "umm" she was nervous. "I forgot a fork...." she admitted sadly.

I chuckled at her reaction, "well let's go get a couple then shall we?" I smirked at her and started walking to the door, making sure I heard her footsteps behind me. "You know it has been a while since I have had cherry pie" I admitted.

"How did you know I made cherry?" She asked curiously.

"It smells delicious" I chuckled and heard her shuffling around as I grabbed some plates and forks. "Cherry is actually my favourite pie" I smirked and I could feel her grin as we sat at the table.

"I know" she said proudly.

"And where did you get your information from?" I asked, quirking my eyebrow as I unwrapped the pie.

"Someone told me... but I won't say who" she said stubbornly.

"Liam was it?" I asked and chuckled when I heard her huff. I was glad she was being more relaxed around me. I scooped a large piece of the pie onto my plate and handed her a fork. "What else has he been telling you about me?" I asked curiously.

"Well.... a little about your wolf Brax, some foods you like, how you run the pack" she listed and Brax purred.

"You know you can always ask me that kind of stuff right?" I asked worriedly.

"I know... you're just usually busy running the pack and Liam mentions things I wouldn't think to ask" she admitted as I heard her scraping some pie from her plate.

I took a bite of the pie, enjoying it before I frowned at her words, "are you saying I don't spend enough time with you?"

She gulped nervously, "no alpha" she said as she bowed. I have noticed that she calls me alpha when she is afraid of me.... which breaks my heart. I want her to know that I would never hurt her.

"Would you like me to spend more time with you?" I asked, looking in her direction.

"But the pack... I know you have a lot you need to do" she said nervously.

"Yes, but Terry can do it. I can take a few days off and spend more time with you" I said casually as I started eating more of my pie. "I don't want you to feel ignored or neglected... you're important to me" I said clearly.

"I don't want to cause any trouble alpha" she said in a whisper.

"It's no problem. I have been wanting to spend more time with you but I didn't want you to feel smothered" I admitted. Ever since she has been up and walking Brax has been very protective of her. I was afraid if I spent too much time following her around she would feel trapped by me. "You can always tell me when you need or want something" I added.

"Thank you..." she said as I heard some more scraping on her plate.

"So what did Liam tell you about Brax?" I asked curiously.

"He is black, huge, and likes to get his way. He also said that Brax is scarey when he is mad" she said.

'She has no reason to be scared of me, I wouldn't hurt her' Brax huffed.

'You do like things your way though' I chuckled at him.

"Most of that is true but you don't have to be afraid of him. He would never hurt you or your wolf Lilac" I stated.

"How do you know my wolf's name?" She asked.

"I just do" I smiled at her. "You know I finished up my work for the day... why don't we take the rest of the pie upstairs and we can spend some time together?" I suggested.

"That would be nice.... " she replied. "What will we do?"

"Whatever you want" I said as I stood up.

"Really?" She asked and I nodded. "Can we go outside? I really want to explore the pack grounds and Lilac has been bugging me for fresh air" she seemed excited.

I was worried... Chase is still out there. "Are you okay with running in to people? Some of the pack members will probably want to talk to you" I said.

"Hmm.. maybe just out to the garden around the pack house then?" She suggested.

"Sure, just let me put the pie away and we can go out" I smiled at her and went to wrap up the pie. I was pleasantly surprised when her tiny arms pulled me into a hug. I pulled her against my chest and breathed in her scent happily. She must have noticed Brax start purring because she quickly backed away. I frowned, putting the pie away as I started walking towards the door. "Are you coming?" I asked.

"Yes" she squeaked as I heard her footsteps behind me.
