The Heart Sees

I woke up with my head pounding painfully. 'What happened?' I asked Lilac in my head, still unable to open my eyes and look around.

'I don't remember... the last thing I can recall is running away from alpha Chase' Lilac replied and I frowned.

'Do you think we got away?' I asked her.

'Let me check' I heard her reply as she used her nose to sniff around. 'I smell our mate... which means he could have gotten us. But he rejected us and we accepted it, we shouldn't still feel the mate bond' Lilac said, clearly confused.

'Thank you for checking' I replied as I started to crack my eyes open. I groaned at the bright lights and prayed that Chase would not be the first thing I saw.

I kept trying and eventually opened my eyes. I looked around.... it looks like I am in a hospital of some sort. The last thing I remember was passing out in the snow... there were wolves there and I asked them to help me. "Lu?" I heard a strange voice that sent shivers down my spine.

'Mate!' Lilac purred.

I looked over at the man... he was the one I saw before I passed out. I scurried back on the bed and looked at him. "Who are you? Where am I?" I asked.

He looked pained as he spoke, "my name is Troy and you're in my pack hospital. You're safe here, you don't have to worry".

"I was... running from an alpha...." I mumbled as I looked at Troy. He was a really attractive wolf, but his blue eyes looked like they were clouded over.

'Is he blind?' I gasped at Lilac.

'He is' Lilac confirmed.

"The alpha who chased you is gone, no one knows where he went" Troy explained.

"I ran because I was his mate but he rejected me... then he banished me.... oh goddess... where will I go now?" I started to panic.

"Lu... you're safe here and if you want you can transfer into my pack" Troy offered.

"Why does my wolf say you're our mate?" I asked.

"Because we are mates. Second chance mates that is. I had a mate a long time ago, but she died" he said sadly.

"I'm so sorry..." I said as I looked him over again. He was tall and muscular.... and he gave off a feeling of power, meaning he is an alpha. "Is that why you're letting me stay? Because we're mates?" I asked and he nodded.

"Yes but I won't force you to stay here... I would like you to stay though so my wolf, Brax, and I can get to know you. Is that something you would be willing to try?" Troy asked nervously.

'I think we can trust him and we have nowhere else to go... besides he is so hot!' Lilac encouraged.

"Okay..." I mumbled.

"Thank you Lu.... you won't regret it I promise" Troy said happily. "Would it be okay if you met a couple of my pack members? Not today but maybe tomorrow? It won't be the whole pack, just two wolves" he rambled nervously.

"Maybe... will I still be in the hospital?" I asked worriedly.

"You've been here for a while now. The doctor said that you can go home as soon as you woke up" Troy explained. "Are you okay with staying in the pack house for now?" He asked.

I nodded hesitantly, "okay...." Troy stood up excitedly as rushed to the door and grabbed a wheel chair from the hallway.

"Can I help you up?" He asked politely. I smiled at how kind he was being to me.

'He's already so much nicer than our last mate....' Lilac said approvingly.

"Yes" I finally answered him as he moved closer, his scent engulfing me as I took it all in.

"Do I smell okay?" Troy asked worriedly.

"You smell amazing" I admitted and then blushed at what I had just said.

"You smell amazing too Lu" he replied with a huge smile as he went to lift me up. As soon as his hands touched me I took in a sharp breath. The tingles and sparks flowing through me felt absolutely amazing. I closed my eyes and enjoyed it as he lifted me and held me against his chest protectively. I felt so safe with him....

He went to set me down in the wheelchair but I wrapped my arms around his neck, "don't let me go" I whined, not wanting to break contact yet.

He chuckled and brushed one of his hands against my lower back, "I won't ever let you go Lu" he whispered and I blushed as he started walking.

"How do you find your way around so well?" I asked curiously. "Sorry... that was rude" I shook my head and waited to be slapped but it never came.

"That's okay. I use my smell and hearing a lot. I was captured after my mate died and they demanded that I fight and win in order to be free. I was there training for about a year until I finally won and came back to the pack" he explained. "Plus I know the way around my pack lands really well" he chuckled.

"I am so sorry that happened to you" I said as I clutched the fabric of his shirt. "Who are the wolves you want me to meet?" I asked.

"One is my beta, Terrance, but everyone calls him Terry. And the other is Liam, one of the patrol guards" Troy said with a smirk.

I took in my surroundings as he entered the pack house. I gasped in surprise at how beautiful it was, "this place is amazing" I muttered. Troy nodded and kept walking as he lead me upstairs. He opened a door and his scent immediately overwhelmed me... this must be his room. He walked me over to the bed and set me down gently. "This is your room?" I frowned.

"Yes but I thought you would be more comfortable here with someone you knew. I'm sorry if it was too presumptuious of me. If you want I can stay in a different room... but I promise I won't do anything you don't want" Troy rambled nervously.

'What do you think?' I asked Lilac.

'I want to be with mate. He's an alpha... he can keep us safe' Lilac replied.

"You can stay" I said hesitantly.

Troy beamed at me before he pulled up a chair and sat beside the bed. "I am so glad that you're giving me a chance... but please know that you don't have to... I know a blind partner can be a lot" he said sadly.

"It doesn't matter to me that you're blind....but what happened to your eyes if you don't mind me asking?" I asked curiously.

Troy sighed and began to explain his past to me... and what a heart breaking past it was. I knew if he ever lost another mate it would kill him....
