Chapter 436
Emma had left Xavier Group, and Meredith didn't say anything to that.
She spent the whole morning dealing with the backlog of more than ten days. In the afternoon, a woman in a black coat with short, neat hair and delicate features came to her.
"Boss, I'm Nikita."
She was the bodyguard that Derek hired for her, who would protect her all day long and live with her at night.
In fact, Derek had wanted to hire a bodyguard for Meredith long ago. But he was afraid that Meredith would not like that, so he didn't do anything. But this time, he made up his mind. Meredith was sensible. After so many accidents, he didn't reject having a bodyguard around her and silently accepted the arrangement.
Inside a cafe in a mall.
"Meredith, I've been so busy these days because of a project at the company that I didn't even know you were taken to the police station last month. Why didn't you tell me? What's going on?" Penelope's face was full of anxiety.
"It's not a big deal. The company had made a mistake.” Meredith did not want to go into detail about this matter.
Penelope didn't think much about that. After all, in her opinion, Meredith couldn't suffer any losses since Derek was the boss of the Xavier Group.
Taking a sip of coffee, she glanced at Nikita, who was sitting on the side straightly with a serious face. She asked Meredith,
"Who is she?"
"The bodyguard Derek hired for me. Her name is Nikita."
Penelope's eyes widened and she looked at Nikita with sparkling eyes. Awesome, she was a female bodyguard. No wonder she looked so cool.
"Hello, Nikita. My name is Penelope. I'm Mer's friend. Well, you're a bodyguard. You must be really good at martial arts, right? I've admired martial artists since I was a child. You're awesome." Meredith, ".."
Nikita ignored Penelope's hospitality, and continued to observe the surrounding.
Penelope smiled awkwardly and took back her hand without getting angry. Well, it was understandable that a bodyguard was cold and aloof.
Meredith shook her head, "Okay, stop. I haven't asked you what's wrong with you? You heard heartbreaking on the phone. What happened?”
The woman who was screaming for help on the phone just now waved her hand. "It's nothing serious. I rented a man to be my boyfriend, and I want you to help me evaluate him.”
"What?" Meredith looked at her in astonishment. Her words were quite surprising.
After Penelope's explanation, Meredith finally understood.
It turned out that Penelope's parents arranged a lot of blind dates for her since she was almost 30 years old but still didn't have a boyfriend.
Penelope was so annoyed and she thought of this way to get rid of the blind dates.
Well, people could get everything online. Renting a boyfriend was trendy, so Penelope also paid to rent one.
After paying the deposit on the Internet, she would meet him face to face, and if she felt he was good enough to act as her boyfriend to deal with her parents, she would pay him the rest money. Meredith was surprised by this deal.
"Let me tell you, this man I rented is as handsome as stars. I'll show you the photos.”
Penelope said excitedly, taking out her phone and handing it over.
Meredith glanced at the photo and raised an eyebrow. She was not very interested in the man, but indeed he looked really good. He was comparable to the male stars.
"But it's not very appropriate to do that, right?"
"What's the matter? The blind dates are just a waste of time and energy. If I rent a boyfriend back, my parents can be at ease, and they won't nag me all day long. We will be relieved.”
Meredith, ".."
Not long after, the man showed up. His name was Alan, which was quite funny.
Penelope waved at him and he came over.
At first glance, he was really eye-catching. Alan was 1.75 meters tall. He was not very tall but slender. He was wearing jeans, a white shirt, a coffee-colored trench coat and sneakers. His features were delicate and he looked youthful like a college student.
The moment he came in, the young girls in the coffee shop were all attracted by him, and Penelope was pleased and proud.
"Tsk tsk, look, although his payment is a little expensive, he's worth it."
She was speechless. Alan looks good, but she wondered why he would work as a rented boyfriend to make money.
Alan walked over and sat across from them. Her clear eyes glanced at the three women. Then he looked at Penelope calmly and nodded.
"You must be Miss Garcia. Hello, I'm Alan."
"Alan, it's a pleasure to meet you. This is my good friend, Meredith, and this... Uh, you can call her Miss N."
Alan nodded faintly, without any extra expression.
Meredith raised an eyebrow in surprise. Penelope was very satisfied that Alan was a gentleman. After all, both Meredith and she were great beauties and many men would be surprised when seeing them.
But Alan was so calm and his calmness made her feel good.
Just as she was about to speak, her expression froze.
Alan suddenly took out a small mirror and a... cushion foundation from a small black leather bag on his shoulder.
Then, he started to powder his face. They could tell from his posture that he was very skillful. Meredith was also dumbfounded.
"Well, Alan, are you... putting on makeup?”
Penelope asked uncertainly as she looked at his flawless skin. She felt speechless.
As the saying went, fair skin offset all one's shortcomings. She had been wondering why this man's skin was so fair but she never thought that he had put on makeup.
Alan glanced at her, "Miss Garcia, don't you wear makeup?"
Penelope was surprised, "I, yes." She put on light makeup before going out. After all, it was normal for a girl to put on some makeup when she went out alone.
"That's it. You don't need to be surprised." Alan shrugged and rolled his eyes at her.
Penelope, ".."
Meredith, ".."
Penelope felt speechless. She took a deep breath. She didn't think Alan was a gentleman now.
