The Good Girl's Revenge

Chapter 208

Chloe did not want to admit the fact. However, Derek's tone of calling Meredith's name lingered in her mind for a long time.

She had only heard such a sentimental and indulgent voice a long time ago. Now Derek called her name coldly, in a way no different from the others.

Just as Chloe clenched her fist and her heart ached, there was some sound in the room. She immediately calmed herself down and knocked on the door. "Derek, grandpa asked you to go down for dinner."

Derek heard Chloe's voice, hung up the phone, and walked out. "Got it."

Chloe lowered her head, not letting him see that something was wrong.

The two of them went downstairs and ate with Old Master.

Mr. Xavier was keen on adding more topics to the two, so he kept reminiscing about the past.

At first, Derek was able to agree a few words in order not to spoil his grandpa's mood. In the end, he gave up.

"Grandpa, how long has it been? It's time to move on.”

The man's tone was light, but Chloe knew clearly his implied meaning.

Chloe stopped her chopsticks, and she felt that the food in her mouth suddenly became tasteless. She knew that Derek was hinting at her that things had changed between them. Although she was in a bad mood, she didn't say anything.

Seeing that the atmosphere got weird again, Old Master was annoyed. "I finished eating.”

Derek was simply going against him on purpose.

Chloe and Derek finished their dinner in silence. He said a word and then went straightly upstairs without any intention of staying with Chloe.

She was left alone in the living room, being in a daze for a long time. When the housekeeper came out of the Old Master's room and saw Chloe's disappointed look, he comforted. "Miss Bennett, young master is just..."

The butler did not know how to comfort Chloe. If a man was so cold to you, the reason was that he simply didn't love you.

"How's grandpa? Have you eaten?"

Chloe returned to her senses and looked at the butler. She looked beautiful and behaved politely as usual.

The housekeeper was shocked by her generosity and thoughtfulness. He then smiled with relief. "In that case, can Miss Bennett help to cheer Old Master up later? I'll ask the servant to make another bowl of noodles.”

Chloe naturally wouldn't refuse. To get rid of Meredith, she had to rely on the strength of the Xaviers.

After a while, the housekeeper handed Chloe a tray with a bowl of steaming noodle soup on it. Chloe thanked him gracefully and walked over.

Old Master didn't want to talk to anyone, but Derek's rebelliousness irritated him. Although he was old now, he was used to calling the shots all the way, but now he couldn't control his own grandson. "Grandpa, it's me."

Chloe said softly, "You only ate a little tonight. I'm afraid you'll be hungry when you sleep. It's not good for your stomach. Have some more."

Old Master was stunned for a moment, then opened the door and let her in.

Chloe's change was obvious to him. She could really change the bad temper of those young ladies for Derek.

What Derek needed was a woman who could take care of the house, make him look good outside, and establish a good image, not a woman as weak as Meredith who only relied on men.

The two of them sat quietly, and Chloe was not in a hurry to say anything about that matter. She carefully and attentively waited on Old Master until he had finished eating. She then held the dishes. "Grandpa, maybe we can postpone the engagement.”

"Why? What did Derek threaten you with?"

"No... I just heard about... Meredith.”

Chloe's eyes flashed with gloom. "If Derek loves Meredith, I don't think I need to keep pestering him. In this way, even if we get married, we won't be happy. I don't want Derek to do what he doesn't want to do."

Chloe sounded that she cared about Derek a lot. At least, Old Master felt comfortable after hearing what she said. So he grew more fond of her.

"Didn't Meredith get kicked out long ago? There's no need for you to worry about this."

"But, I just... When I asked him to come down for dinner, I heard that he and Meredith were still in contact.”

"What?" Mr. Xavier couldn't contain his anger when he heard that. "Can you hear the conversation clearly? Was it really her?"

Chloe nodded. "I just thought that a forced marriage wouldn't be happy. In that case, I'm willing to let him go.”

Old Master didn't listen to her anymore. He stood up and said, "Chloe, you go out first. I will give you a satisfactory answer about this matter. Don't worry. You are the only daughter-in-law of our the Xaviers."

The sun shone into the room and a new day began.

Meredith slowly opened her eyes and took a look at the weather outside. It was warm and bright. She touched her bulging abdomen. "It's a beautiful day.”

She happily picked up her phone, took a look. After thinking, she sent Derek a message.

"The weather here is good today. What about yours?"

In the past, Meredith rarely did this because she always felt that it was not good for a girl to be too proactive. Moreover, she never fully believed in Derek's feelings for her. She was actually very worried that she would show excessive passion to someone cold.

But now... Thinking about how much Derek had done to deal with the Masons in order to protect her from being hurt and clear her name, she changed her attitude.

She just fell in love with this man. No matter what happened, she wanted to be with him.

However, after sending the message, Meredith smiled again.

It was late at night at Derek's place, so he would not reply her text.

Therefore, she did not wait for the news from the other side and went to the bathroom to wash up. Only when she came back did she realize that Derek had replied promptly.

"Why did you get up so early?"

Meredith was a little stunned. After checking the time, she knew that it was early in the morning over there. Why did he reply so quickly?

However, the feeling of being instantly replied made Meredith feel very happy. There was a saying that if a man cared about you, he would reply your messages swiftly.

So, now it seemed that Derek cared about her too.

"It's a healthy habit to keep early hours.”

"But why aren't you sleeping when it's so late?"

Meredith knew that Derek was a workaholic and would not sleep until he finished his work. He rarely showed his tiredness, but she still felt a little worried.

"Aren't you tired from sleeping so late?"

Derek looked at the line she was typing and smiled. "Not tired.”

He was working overtime to squeeze time to visit Meredith, so he was very motivated.
