Chapter Troubled existance
I'm working at the park by myself now. It's now October. I don't remember when the last time I have been paid actually was. Most people wouldn't keep working but it doesn't really matter. I don't really care much about money. I just want to finish what I started and leave this city.
I don't know why I continue to walk to the clearing to spy on them. I have been doing it for three years now. I spend my time reading the books left in the cabin, hunting for food, or stealing what I need from the villages nearby. Most people do not even know I exist and the ones that do will never look for me.
I watch as the clearing fills with people once again, this time, my father has a woman and a girl about my age. I've seen the girl before. She looks frightened now as she is dragged into the center of the field.
"This child tried to run away from the village. She doesn't have any respect for what we have done for her. It's time for a new sacrifice. This is what will happen if you turn traitor." My father says calmly as the people gather round.
I am getting tired of this monotonous routine. The money is drying up with the change of weather. It's getting colder and Hera still has me out all day doing this. I guess I could stop but I promised myself to give her a chance to change her fate. While her fate has changed a little bit, it is not for the better.
Of course, she will have to face the consequences of her actions soon. I can delay her fate for a time but I cannot stop it. She is choosing this. No amount of patience or kindness is helping her. In fact, its almost like she wants me to get angry with her. She goes out of her way just to test me. If I lose my temper, I wont care about her feelings.
I am cold and harsh at pretty much every occasion. I used to read books to try and understand peoples emotions but I cannot. I will never mourn if someone dies or be excited to see them after a long time being away. I don't cry or yell. I am pretty much a blank slate. I will never be like her. She is all emotion. When she is happy, she is the best person to be around. She is kind and compassionate, but, she has never learned that she cannot always have her way.
I watch as they took her life and that is when I understood who the real monster was. It was one thing to kill me. They believed I was a demon, but it was another thing to kill someone else. I only wish that I could have saved her. Unfortunately, I cant let them see me, and even if they did, it wouldn't have changed anything.
"Let that be a lesson to all who offend me. I will not tolerate any traitors to exist. I will wipe them all out and when I find the demon child, I will wipe her out as well." He exclaims as the people around him bow at his feet.
"All hail the One true God. He is our light in the darkness and our salvation. He is the true picture of perfection." The crowd exclaims as my father smiles at the crowd before him.
