Chapter 54
Kylan was preparing diner, awaiting Jonah's arrival from school. He had a later class, and since he always returned home tired, Kylan decided to be nice and overwhelm him with love once he showed up. However, his phone started ringing, and Kylan was thrilled when it was Jonah calling. "Hey, babe_"
"Kylan, I have something...going on."
He raised an eyebrow, "Is everything okay?"
"Yes, I'm fine, it's just...there's someone I'm going to bring home. But this needs to happen. It'll help us."
"Don't tell me it's your father-"
"No, no. I'm outside the door. I just didn't want you to freak out knowing who it-" Kylan stormed to the door and pulled it open, and Jonah lowered the phone from his ear, "-is." Kylan thought his heart had stopped.
"Dad?"
Instantly, Kylan pulled Jonah into the bedroom and slammed the door shut. "What the fuck do you think you're doing, Jonah?" his teeth were gritted, his eyes narrowed with a bit of tears, and he folded his arms. Jonah felt guilty, and he tilted his head sadly, "He was into rehab, Kylan. He said he wanted to talk to you."
"So you bring him to our house? Without telling me?"
"You would've said no-"
"Yes, because he's beaten me! He's abused me emotionally and mentally my whole life. Of course, I'd be upset!" Jonah attempted to reach for him, but Kylan stepped away, "Don't touch me." "Kylan, he has some words to say, and I think you deserve to hear them."
"You shouldn't be the one making that call. A psychologist or a therapist maybe but not a fucking business major student named Jonah who's just upset because he tried to reconnect with his family, and they said no!" Jonah paused for a moment, and the worry instantly vanished from his body as he narrowed his eyes, "They said no because of you, Kylan! And I'm trying to deal with it but-"
"And the way of dealing with it was by bringing one of my abusers into my life," Kylan spat.
Jonah shook his head, "Whatever, Ky."
"Tell him to leave."
"You do that yourself since you want to talk big all the time. I'm leaving you with him."
Suddenly, Kylan's eyes widened frighteningly, "Jonah, please don't do that to me."
"Stop talking to me, bye," then he left the bedroom door and stepped around his father, who stared at him confusingly. Jonah smiled, "He's in the bedroom waiting for you."
Kylan cursed under his breath when he heard that.
"Is he?"
"Yes, I'm heading out," and Jonah left the condo.
Kylan's father knocked on the bedroom door still locked and raised an eyebrow when Kylan wouldn't open. He said, "Kylan-?"
"Get away from this door, Dad!" He was quite scared, his eyes filling with tears, and he was shaking. He stepped away from the door a few feet and stared at it as if it were his father.
Kylan's father sighed, "Kylan, I know you're scared."
"Please leave this house. You're not a part of my life anymore. I'm good now, and I don't want you to ruin it!"
"I know you're good, Kylan," he chuckled sadly, leaning his forehead against the door. "Look, my life and yours intertwining has never been filled with any good. You're obviously better off without me, but there's a thing I learned at rehab that I needed to get off my chest."
Kylan paused, waiting for him to speak.
"You didn't kill your mother."
Instantly, Kylan thought his heart had stopped.
His father sighed, tilting his head to the side when he could only hear Kylan's heavy breathing, "Mother died from birth complications, and you weren't the cause of her death. You didn't deserve to be blamed for the death of your own mother. That must've been traumatic, and although it doesn't really change the fact that it emotionally scarred for the rest of your life, I wanted to make sure you knew that you didn't, and I'm sorry."
Kylan fell to his knees, tears rushing from his eyes.
His father could hear the sniffling from behind the door and sighed, "I made some changes with myself. Your sexuality is your preference, and I shouldn't have ever called you a burden because of it. I should've loved you the way a real father should, and no one should have gone through the treatment I made you go through. You're a great kid. You didn't deserve this. I'm sorry, Kylan."
"Your mother wouldn't have been proud of me, of the man that I've become. One thing I wanted to tell you was: thank you for being strong. You lasted eighteen years of my wrongful treatment, and I thank you for still returning home and keeping me company in the house. Because as much as I wanted to hate you, you made me feel less lonely than I was."
"Whenever you're ready to meet with me, let me know. I think it would be best if we meet in a public setting. I hope that one day we can both visit mother's cemetery together. I love you, Kylan, and I hope you're safe, healthy, and well. Please stay the way you've always been because you're the best son anybody could have asked for."
Then, only silence reigned.
A few moments later, his footsteps grew further away from the door, and he exited the condo. Kylan had his forehead against the floor, sobbing so hard he could barely breathe. His stomach was clenching on itself, and all the words his father said, he could not believe. It was only an hour later that he finally calmed down and stood to his feet, still crying as he tried to wipe as many tears as he could since he was packing his duffel bag to go stay at Ella's.
Jonah leaving had hurt him, but he was traumatized by what his father had said. He couldn't believe it, and all he needed was Ella.
He finished his duffel bag and exited the bedroom, letting the bag fall on the ground before heading to the kitchen for a glass of water. Then, after he was done, he grabbed his coat and headed towards the door when the front door opened, and Jonah returned inside the home.
When he saw Kylan with his coat on and duffel bag over his shoulder, he raised an eyebrow, "You're not leaving."
"I need to see Ella," his voice cracked when he said that, and he turned away, his eyes filling with tears again.
Jonah raised an eyebrow, "What happened? Did he hurt you?"
"Don't act like you care. You left me with him without any worry."
"I was outside the damn door."
"You shouldn't have left home."
"I needed to catch some air. You were pissing me off - Kylan, why are you crying? Tell me what happened, please, babe."
"I just need to see Ella. I want to...cuddle with her and make hot chocolate with her and cry with her. She'll understand me a bit more—"
"We can do that here."
Kylan's eyes built more tears before he breathed shakily, "Just let me go, please?"
Jonah paused before leaping forward and grabbing Kylan's neck, lifting it to find any sign of grabbing. Then, he grabbed his arms, lifting his sleeves and examining it to find any bruising. Kylan tried to resist, "What are you do "
"He better not have hit you. He said he wouldn't."
"He didn't hit me, Jonah." Kylan exclaimed, stepping backward and hissing, "I feel like I'm talking to a brick wall. I'm going to see Ella because I want to see her and talk to her about it." Jonah rolled his eyes, "Why? Why can't you just talk to me about it?"
"Because Ella was there when you weren't. So I want to see her, and I'm leaving for a few days."
Kylan stepped around him, and Jonah raised an eyebrow, "For a few days? Why a few days-"
"Because you invited my abuser and left me in an enclosed space with him. That wasn't your call to make, and I'm disappointed in you."
"I did that to help you-"
"That wasn't your call to make, Jonah."
"Then I'm sorry, alright? Don't leave me, Kylan. I get so lonely here without you, you know I love you and wouldn't have done this if I didn't think it would help you—"
"Get your hand off from me."
"Kylan, I—"
"You heard me."
Jonah sighed and then pulled his hand away from Kylan. He stared at him exit the door and leave.
After a couple of hours, Jonah called Ella and asked, "Did he make it safe?"
"I don't know how he drove, but he got here sobbing hysterically. He's sleeping now, but he really wanted to cuddle and watch a movie with hot chocolate. Bradley got a bit sad that he wasn't the main focus today, but I do love cuddling with Kylan when he's sad. He gets all soft and child-like."
Jonah nodded his head, "He did tell me that he wanted to cuddle with you."
"See, I'm so comforting that he drove four hours away to see me instead of being with his boyfriend, which is you—"
"Ella, you're so annoying. Anyways, did he tell you what happened with his Dad?"
"Yes, he didn't hit Kylan if that's what you were worried about."
"I just want to know what happened."
"You shouldn't have left him alone if you wanted to know that "

"Ella, please. Be kind, for once."
When Ella explained to him the incident, she then said, "He's just trying to swallow what was said. He went his whole life believe that he killed his mother and he was supposed to be hated by everyone because he was gay and a murderer. Imagine the one person in his life that made him believe that since he was young, finally tell him he was sorry."
Jonah shuffled in his bed, sighing when he heard that. He said, "Can I come over tomorrow?"
"Of course, I think he'd be happy to see you."
That's what Ella thought.
However, when Jonah arrived at the door, and Ella opened with excitement since she thought Kylan would be happy, his face fell, and his eyebrows immediately narrowed. He was eating breakfast and hissed, "I said a few days." "Ella said I could come by."
"And I said a few days."
"Are you going to have sex with Ella now? Sheesh, you're such a girl."
"At least she knows not to bring the person that's abused me for years into our home."
"Which I apologized for."
"Urgh, you make me sick. Get out of here."
"Ella, can I stay?" Jonah furrowed his brows, and she nodded her head. "Ella said I could stay-"
"Can you guys bicker somewhere else," Bradley growled, standing from the couch in the living room and heading towards the fridge. "People here are trying to sleep." "Then tell Jonah to leave."
"I came for Bradley."
"Then I'll leave."
"And I'll leave as well," Jonah shrugged his shoulders.
Kylan rolled his eyes, chuckled a bit since it was becoming comical. Although it was still mad, it was nice to see Jonah wanting to be in his presence, "You're so annoying." "Annoyingly handsome," he wrapped an arm around Kylan's shoulders and placed a gentle peck on his cheek, whispering in his ear, "Let's talk when we get home, alright?" Kylan nodded his head, "Okay."
Jonah smiled, "I love you, Ky."
"Yea," Kylan smiled as well, "I love you too."
