The Gay Nerd Who Stole His Heart

Chapter 37

Kylan exited the hospital room and smiled towards Ella, who sighed, wrapping her arms around him and clenching him tightly to her, although he was the one warming her up. When she pulled apart, observing as Kylan placed on his swollen eye, she bit her bottom lip, attempting not to launch into a series of curses. She was livid that Jonah had instigated Kylan to reach such an anger that he threw the first punch; Kylan was such a reasonable quiet guy, that even bullies could not aggravate since he did not care about them. He never reciprocated at them, Ella always having to defend him with her own fists. However, this time he had done it on his own, and although she was proud that he fought, standing up for himself, Jonah had gone overboard.

Kylan's eye was swollen, the end of his eyebrow needed stitches, he had bruises from his jaw to his neck, and his lip was busted open as well. He bled from his nose, and he kept an ice pack to his eyes since it hurt. Ella sighed, not wanting to make it worse for him as they exited the hospital.

However, the instant they stepped foot outside the hospital, there stood Jonah, with his palms in his front pockets and a worried gaze as he examined Kylan, who stood there as well, stopping in his steps for a moment. When he eyed Jonah, all of a sudden, his eyes swelled with tears as he began crying softly, Ella beside him and attempting to comfort him.

She turned to Jonah, "Go away."

"Kylan," Jonah said quietly, stepping forward towards them with worry in his gaze. Ella stepped in front of him, causing Jonah to stop in his steps, "I said go away, Jonah, because it's taking every single fiber in my body not to beat the brains out of you."

Jonah glanced in her direction for a moment, then sighed, his shoulders falling. "Kylan, I love you. I know I keep apologizing, but I never meant for us to become like this, ever," he breathed, observing his defensive Ella was, her arm prepared to shove Jonah away, "I want you to be mine Kylan, and it is driving me nuts that I can't have you. It's pissing me off, and it's making me crazy because I get everything I want, but you were different."

"I'm warning you, Jonah. I'll call the police."

"Just hear me out," he turned to Ella with desperation in his eyes. When she closed her lips, he continued, "You don't deserve what I've done to you, Kylan. At all, and I just wanted to let you know that I am sorry about everything. I'm sorry about not telling you about Leah and having sex with her. I'm sorry I hit you, and I'm sorry this happened between us. I won't interfere in your life again, Kylan; I never meant to hurt you. I still love you, and I hope you'll be okay. If you ever need anything, anything at all, I'll always be here for you."

When he was done, Ella grabbed Kylan and lead him to her car, walking by Jonah without a response. Jonah merely kept contact with Kylan's swelling eyes until his back faced him, and they entered their vehicle. When they did, Ella rolled her eyes, "He was right. You don't deserve any of this."

Kylan shook his head and breathed quietly, "It hurts."

"I'll take care of you," Ella warmed, grinning in his direction, "come stay at ours for a few days."

"I can't—"

"You can," she said sternly, disallowing him from refusing her, hence why he chuckled and followed her to her vehicle.

However, a thought passed his mind, and as they drove in silence in the car, he finally cleared his throat and said, "Can you drop me off at this address?"

When Ella had the chance to glance at the address, she furrowed her brows, "Whose house is that?"

"Charles."

She shook her head, "That is the sole reason as to why Jonah knocked you out, no."

"Please, Ella," he begged, "hearing him play the piano is relaxing. I can close my eyes, and my mind stops racing; please."

Ella sighed, a bit hesitant but then turned the wheel, making a U-Turn. When she noticed his grin, placing the ice on his eye, she rolled her eyes, "Be smart. Don't make him a rebound."

"I won't," he breathed quietly.

When he arrived at the house, he descended the vehicle and closed the door behind him. Ella drove off, and he marched to the door, knocking. At first, there was no answer; however, it took about two minutes for Charles to finally pull it open, and when he did, his eyes widened in complete shock. He had heard Kylan had left school that day but had never expected him to appear at his doorstep with bruises all over his face, and his eyes swelled into a bubble.

Charles was at a loss for words, and it was Kylan that spoke first, "The piano recital helped me, so I was wondering..."

He never finished his sentence, and Charles stepped outside, wrapping his arms around Kylan into an embrace. Charles was taller than him and had thick arms that surrounded Kylan as a whole, enveloping him into comfort as he leaned in against him.

Charles brought Kylan to his instrumental room, which was soundproof, not wanting the entire home to hear the music. Even more so, it was filled with different instruments, a few that Charles himself could not play but his parents could. He told Kylan to sit on the sofa and brought him a hot chocolate mug, attempting to make him feel comfortable and welcomed.

Afterward, he sat in front of the piano, placed one hand, and then the other, on the keys with such delicacy, Kylan thought he was staring at waves. Then, Charles said, "It's better if you close your eyes and just listen to the tune."

Kylan nodded his head and closed his eyes, hearing Charles begin playing. The same sensation occurred; at first, goosebumps rolled along his flesh, the small hairs poking upwards as the melody ran swiftly through his entire body, causing such a warm feeling. Then, his mind stopped racing, and his bones felt as if they were melting with his muscles, his heartbeat softening by every minute. He felt his entire body enter such ease that he never knew was possible, his eyes remaining shut.

However, he peeked with one eye, slightly opening it and glancing at Charles. When he did, he opened both his eyes and was mesmerized by Charles' movements. Charles had been wrong. It was better with his eyes open. The delicacy of his fingers as they strolled along the keys, creating such an angelic tune that even Kylan could not resist. His eyes were barely open as he glanced at the keys he would press next, his hair shaking with his body flowing from left to right to hit the right set of keys. His playing harmonized his motioning, and Kylan had not blinked for about two minutes, not wanting to miss any second of Charles.

When he finally came to the end of his first song, his hands stopped playing, and he brought them to his side, staring at the piano for a few seconds before raising his head, meeting Kylan's widened gaze. Kylan was speechless. It was apparent by the manner his eyes twinkled.

Charles cleared his throat, a bit embarrassed as he scratched the back of his head, "I composed that lullaby."

Kylan was even more in shock, leaning forward in the seat and taking a sip of his hot chocolate, "You compose your own songs?"

He nodded his head, his cheeks becoming a bit red as he looked away, "At times."

"Can I hear another one?"

Kylan heard four songs in total, to which Charles gladly played for him. However, by the middle of the fourth, Charles heard soft snores, and when he turned his head, he smiled weakly, Kylan having fallen asleep on his sofa. It had been a while anybody came to him to play for them; he always had to ask to be in the recitals, but it did not seem like anybody frankly enjoyed hearing him. Hence, Kylan being present in his home and beaming at every single of his songs was causing his heart to warm.

He stood from the chair and brought Kylan a blanket, wrapping it over his body, and a saddened look covered his eyes when he observed the bruising on his face. "I hope I made you feel a bit better," he cooed. He did not deserve that, and after a long sigh, Charles laid on the ground in front of the sofa and fell asleep there as well.
