The Gay Nerd Who Stole His Heart

Chapter 14

"First, pick someone of the same height as you."

Kylan searched around, and when he made eye contact with a random guy, he waved over, and the guy approached him. "Now, pick another pair."

Their eyes searched around the classroom, but unfortunately, all the teams were paired.

"If you don't have another pair, raise your hand."

Kylan's partner raised his hand, and on the other side of the classmates, another duo pair raised their hands.

"That's what I thought, were an even number, so there should be enough. Please come forward and join that group." "Join what group?" Bradley's voice surfaced, and instantly Kylan groaned, not wanting to deal with him today.

The instructor pointed towards Kylan, and Bradley advanced towards them, with none other than Jonah following behind him. Kylan and Jonah had not spoken ever since their little argument on the bench outside, and neither had made an initiation in wanting to speak to one another. Kylan obviously wanted to, but Jonah frightened him. He appeared furious all the time and rarely smiled these past few days. Additionally, most of the time, he was with either Ella or Ashley, and neither favored Jonah. Hence why, as Kylan glanced discreetly towards Jonah, he sighed disappointingly.

The instructor clapped his hands together, "Now, we are going to have a tournament." The students seemed excited, and the teacher shushed the entire class. "The first team of four to reach fifty bubble points win the game and will receive a prize afterward."

"What are bubble points?"

"In order to get bubble points, you must find a poster with a challenge written on it. There are posters everywhere around the school; please be prepared to show me evidence that you have completed the challenge. I will allow you all to use your phones for this class, only to record. The team with the most points at the end of the class wins."

"Oh, we're winning this," Bradley smiled ferociously.

"Now," the professor raised his arms, "begin!"

Instantly, students began rushing all different sides, reading the posters with the challenges on them. Bradley took the lead, and the rest of the team followed him as he reached one of the posters. He leaned on his knees, reading, "You must walk from one end of the gym to the other, only on your hands. If you fall, you must restart. Ten bubbles points."

"I cannot do that," Jonah commented with a chuckle.

Bradley turned around towards Kylan and his partner, "What's your name?"

"Jacob," the partner said.

"Yours?"

"Kylan," this was the fifth year in the same school; he would assume that he would have at least heard his name somewhere. He was captain of the soccer team, for Christ's sake; Kylan complained in his mind. Bradley clamped his hands together, "Can neither of you do this?"

"I can try," Jacob seemed hesitant.

"Well, then try," Bradley urged, pushing Jacob towards the line. At the line, he pulled his phone from his pocket, and Jacob began. It took four tries, but when Jacob succeeded, Jonah and Bradley jumped excitingly, while Kylan merely smiled. They grabbed their sheet, wrote down their points, and sprinted to another challenge poster.

"Give one of your partner a piggy-back, and the other must reach one of the gummy bears on the rope line without using any hands." They raised their heads and realized that there was a long rope in the air that had gummy bears attached to it. Bradley pointed to Jonah, "You're the strongest so pick someone up."

Jonah turned to Jacob to pick him up, but Bradley shook his finger. He pointed to Kylan, whose eyes widened. "He's taller and much leaner; he'd be a better fit."

They faced one another, and Kylan chuckled uneasily, "I don't think it's a good idea-"

"Come on, you look at him all the time, and now you don't want to get on his back?" Bradley mocked.

Kylan scratched the back of his head, and Jonah scoffed, "I'm not carrying Ky."

Bradley was confused and frowned, feeling the tense atmosphere between the two of them. Jonah was looking elsewhere, and Kylan seemed very uneasy. However, instead of asking questions, Bradley raised his hands in defeat, "Jacob, get on my back." They succeeded in the challenge, and they sprinted to the next one. The challenges were clearly amusing since they all laughed, including Jonah and Kylan. One was that an Oreo needed to be placed on someone's forehead, and they needed to get it down to their mouths without using their hands. Jacob also succeeded that one. The only one Kylan succeeded in was a challenge worth twenty points, where they needed to hit a soccer ball into a car bin, which Kylan did the first try. Bradley was amazed, and so was Jacob, but Jonah scoffed and turned elsewhere. At the end of the class, they did not end up winning, but they finished second, thanks to Kylan, who was able to play that amazing ball into the bin. "First and second teams will receive a prize, which is pizza for lunch."

The rest of the class pouted, but Kylan slammed his hands into Jonah's for a high-five, excited that they had won. When the class returned to their changing rooms, Kylan began changing his clothes when Bradley approached him, "You did pretty well."

"Thanks," he breathed shakily, receiving his first compliment ever from Bradley, who bullied him multiple times.

Bradley leaned in discretely. "What's going on between you and my buddy Jonah? Why does he always get so mad around you?"

Kylan gulped, scratching the side of his face with a shaky chuckle. The thought of Jonah made him uneasy, and he closed the locker, "I'm not sure what you're talking about=" "Yes, you do, don't play dumb with me. That's what gets me angry," Bradley hissed, leaning closer, "he's been like that recently."

"I haven't noticed," Kylan replied.

Bradley frowned, pausing for a moment before saying, "You guys had sex?" When Kylan suddenly gasped, his face running a wild red, Bradley began chuckling and patting his back, "Relax, I'm joking. I know it's in your fantasies now, though." Afterward, he stepped away and marched back towards his locker. Kylan rushed outside immediately, and when the door closed behind him, he leaned against the wall, panting in heavy breaths. He had not been prepared to hear that, and his reaction almost gave it away. He was certain Jonah would rather people not know about their night at his party, but that was a close shot.

The winners headed to the professors' lounge, and pizza awaited them. Immediately, they began digging in and started chatting with one another, Kylan evidently remaining quiet. He listened to their conversation, Bradley spouting jokes and amusing the people while the rest laughed. The pizza was delicious, but soon enough, as they were eating, the door opened, and Kylan's eyes instantly brightened.

Ashley marched inside and waved a greeting at the guys who sat around. When she reached Kylan, she placed a peck on his head, which caused excitement to form from within him. He was still not exactly attracted to Ashley, but her presence and seeing her always calmed his mind, and he considered her a kind and tender friend that he oftentimes kissed and that probably liked him.

"We get pizza because we won," Bradley said as she pulled a seat beside Kylan.

"I heard," she said, "congrats on winning."

Jonah raised an eyebrow, "Why are you here?"

"I came to get Kylan," she admitted.

Jonah's gaze was cold, and the back of his jaw tightened as he stole another slice of pizza. "You could not wait outside?" he hissed.

Ashley frowned, turning to Kylan, who shrugged his shoulders, although he knew why Jonah was behaving this way. Anything that had to do with Kylan, Jonah was tense and rude. "I didn't want to wait," she remained respectful, "I wanted to see my boyfriend."

"Boyfriend?" Bradley asked in surprise, and Jonah choked on his piece of pizza, "You guys are dating?"

"I assume so, right?" she enticed, turning to Kylan, who was unsure what to say. If he said no, he would be embarrassing her in front of the other students, which was way too rude of him to do. Therefore, he slowly nodded his head, and a bright smile pulled her lips, revealing her teeth as she leaned towards him, placing a peck on his cheek. Bradley shook his head, "Can't believe you got one cutie, Kylan."

Suddenly, Jonah stood from his seat and stormed out of the room, slamming the door closed behind him.
