The Fox and The Wolf

Chapter 16: Who are you

Avery

The easy part was done and over with. The hard part was somehow telling my mom that I’m living with Jake.

“This is kind of exciting, but still strange in a way.” My mom laughed.

Jake and Lilly laughed while I pretty out a nervous chuckle. “The thing is mom, with Jake being my mate, I sorta have to live with him.”

She immediately stopped laughing and looked at us in shock. “I hope you’re joking.”

I shook my head. “She’s not.” Jake said for me.

“But you can’t take my daughter away from me. And Lilly needs her big sister.” She pleaded.

Jake have her a reassuring smile. “That’s why I set things up at the pack house.”

I turned to look at him. “What do you mean?” I asked him.

“I would like to know if you and Lilly would like to live at the pack house with us. Lilly and my little sister have become great friends, and Katie doesn’t want Lilly to leave.”

“That’s brilliant!” I shouted.

“And I think my mom and you would become great friends.” He said.

My mom looked at him in disbelief before she smiled. “Would I be intruding?”

Jake laughed and waved her off. “Of course not. One because I’m the alpha and they have to listen to me, and two, we have a lot of extra rooms.”

“Please momma C.” Liam pleaded.

“Momma C?” I asked laughing.

He nodded. “Well duh. She’s your mom, and I think Momma C sounds awesome.”

“Touche.” I smiled.

“Please momma C.” Lilly asked smiling.

My mom smiled and giggled. “If I have too.”

“You have too.” Jake laughed. “We aren’t going you a choice.”

“Oh really?” She challenged.

Jake smirked. “Yes really.”

“We would have kidnapped you if you said no.” Liam shrugged.

“Like how you kidnapped my daughters?” My mom asked teasingly.

“Precisely.” Liam smiled.

I slapped my hand on my forehead. “I have weird friends.”

“But you loves us.” Liam said putting a hand on my shoulder.

“Sadly.” I muttered.

We got back to the pack house and saw David walk towards us.

“Did you guys know Sadie is missing?” He asked us.

Jake looked at me and Liam before shaking his head. “No. I didn’t.”

“No one has seen her since this morning.”

“She’s probably being emotional. Now she knows she can’t have Jake so she is probably somewhere blowing off steam.” Liam shrugged.

“She wouldn’t have had a chance anyway.” I said crossing my arms over my chest.

“Be nice Avery.” Jake smiled.

“To someone else, I would be. But to her, I’m not going to be.” I said.

“Avery.” Liam said laughing. “You could have taken her any day. Remember that time-” He started to say but I slapped my hand over his mouth before could say anything else.

“What day? What happened?” Jake asked.

“Nothing. Liam is just trying to be funny.” I said glaring at him.

“Avery.” Jake warned.

I sighed and removed my hand from Liam’s mouth. “Sadie confronted me one day and she started telling me off about how she should be your mate and the Luna, not me. And how a stupid, pathetic, ugly, little human girl couldn’t be a good Luna. And how you are too hot for me and belong to a girl like Sadie. Blah blah blah.”

I looked up at Jake and saw his eyes pitch black. “SHE DID WHAT!?”

I flinched and gave him a small nod.

“But it’s okay because Avery told her off.” Liam said trying to lighten the mood.

“I don’t care! She was a complete ass to Avery.” Jake said.

“We will just keep Sadie away from Avery.” David told us.

Jake nodded and we walked inside.

Before wet left the hospital, my mom agreed to staying at the pack house and she is selling our old apartment. Lilly stayed with mom and she is going to Susie’s and Earl’s after that to see them. But we have to pick get up later tonight.

We are sitting on the couch watching college football with David and Liam.

“David and Liam need mates.” I said to Jake as they got up to go get popcorn.

“I know. But neither of them have even come close to finding their mates.” He sighed.

“Well they need to find them. I think they are lonely.”

He chuckled. “I don’t think they are lonely. They haven’t really cared that much.”

I scoffed. “They’ll care once they find them.”

“That they will. I know I did.” He smiled at me and kissed me.

I smiled into the kiss and returned it.

He growled lowly and pulled me onto his lap.

“Ew gross!” We broke apart and saw Liam standing there with his eyes covered and David was laughing at him.

Jake growled and my face was bright red.

“You know.” David started. I groaned knowing he would say something stupid. “There is this thing called a bedroom. People use it when they want to have fun. So, you guys probably should go to the bedroom before you complete the mating process right here on the living room couch.”

“Okay. Come on Avery.” Jake said standing up and reaching for my hand.

I looked at him like he was crazy. “No!” I laughed. “I want to watch football. It’s the Nebraska versus Iowa. Huskers is my team. Well for college football anyway.”

Jake mumbled some not so nice words that Lilly would get pissed if she heard him say.

I giggled and leaned into his side as he wrapped his arm around me.

David and Liam snickered as they sat on the couch.

“Rejected!” David screamed and Liam highfived him.

Jake glared at him and I covered my laugh.

“We need to find your guy’s mates.” I told them.

They shrugged. “I’m not really worried about finding her right now.” David said.

“Same here. I’m not really in a rush to find her.” Liam told us leaning back in the couch.

“You won’t be saying that when you find her.” I told him matter-of-factly.

They shrugged again. I groaned. They. Are. Helpless.

I stood up and put on some boots and a coat.

“Where see you going?” David asked walking towards me.

“I’m going on a walk and going to try and think of a way for Liam and David to meet their mates.” I said glaring at them around Jake.

“I’ll go with.” He smiled.

I shook my head. “You’re friends with them.”

“So.”

“Dude. The bro code.”

He sighed in defeat. “Fine, but take someone with you.”

I nodded and pecked his lips. “Will do.”

I walked out and saw Blake and Cory.

“Blake! Cory!”

“Yes Avery?” They asked walking over to me.

“I’m going on a walk. Will you accompany me?”

They smiled and bowed. “Of course my lady.” Blake said.

“We would be honored.” Cory said.

“Tally ho!” I screamed and started to skip towards the forest.

Blake and Cory hooked arms with me, and were skipping also.

We laughed and just talked about random things.

Blake’s phone started ringing, so we stopped by some random tree while he walked off to answer it.

“We should probably head back. We are pretty deep in the forest.”

I nodded and we saw Blake walking back towards us.

“That was the alpha. He told me to tell you that he, David, and Liam are going to go get Lilly.”

I nodded at him and all of the sudden Blake and Cory stiffened.

“Avery, run towards the house now.” Cory said stepping in front of me looking everywhere.

“Why? What’s wrong?” I asked.

“Luna run!” Blake yelled.

I yelped and booked it out there. I know it’s serious because he called me Luna.

I was running not really knowing where I was going, but the next thing I know, I tripped over something and rolling on the ground.

I hopped back up and growled. But stopped once I saw a girl maybe my age backing up in fear.

“Who are you?” I asked.

She shook her head and backed up against the tree.

I took a step and she let out a whimper.

“I’m not going to hurt you.” I gave her a warm smile and stepped closer

She looked hesitant but didn’t make any noise.

I took cautious steps towards her and sat down in front of her.

“Can you tell me your name?” I asked.

She quickly looked down. “Ashe.” I heard her mumble.

“That’s an awesome name.” I smiled.

She looked up and gave me a small smile.

And that’s when I noticed all the cuts and bruises on her face.

“Oh my gosh. Are you okay?”

She gasped and covered her face.

I crawled over to her and slowly peeled her hands away.

“Ashe, you can trust me.”

“Not here. They still might be here.” Her voice was quiet and full of fear.

I nodded and helped her up.

“Come on.” I said.

“Where are we going?” She asked.

“To the pack house. You need to get cleaned up.”

She froze. “I can’t.”

“Why not?”

“I’m a rogue.”

“So?” What’s the big deal?

“You’re not a wolf.” She said confused. I nodded. “Then how do you know about the pack house and rogues.”

I gave her a genuine smile. “I have a mate.”

“Who?”

“His name is Jake.”

“You mean alpha Jake of the Southern Nightshade Pack?”

“You know him?” I asked.

She nodded. “Not personally. But I’ve heard of him.”

“Oh.”

“So you’re the Luna?” I nodded once again. “I’m sorry for coming onto your territory.”

I waved her off. “Obviously something happened. I’m not letting you leave without helping your first.”

She sighed but nodded. “But if someone catches me, I could be killed.”

I felt my eyes change and I let out a growl. “No one is touching you.”

She gasped and jumped back. “What are you.”

“Crap.” I muttered. “I can’t really say unless you are in the pack. Sorry.”

“It’s fine.”

“Now lets go back to the house and get you cleaned up.” I said taking her hand and started walking towards the house.
