dreadful thing he was bound to tell me.
“Did you know that you have an aunt?” he started and I froze, looking at him questioningly.
“–What? This is what you wanted to tell me?”

He sighed and shook his head. “I wish that was all I have to tell you. But there are a lot more things about your
that you probably don’t know and I intend to tell you about them. I don’t want to surprise you–
“Just tell me everything! What did you mean I have an aunt? My father’s family is… they’re all dead. That’s what he told me!” My head was swimming with what he just said.
I saw him swallowing hard and then went on, “The Silvana family originated from the Kingdom of Eldoria.”
“E-Eldoria? The vampire kingdom?”
He nodded, his expression grim.
“T-That’s impossible. I was born here in Veridia. My father was born in Veridia-” I paused, thinking about the times my father told me about his childhood. He merely told me vague details about it, but I still refused to think that it was because he originally came from another Kingdom.
“My father was human. He lived as a human. He never… He never drank blood. He was scared of it, as a matter of
fact!”
I remember my father would get pale as a paper when he saw blood. He did not like it. He couldn’t be a vampire.
“Your bloodline is special, Henrietta. The truth is, your father has an older sister and her name is Guinevere. Your father was not called Lord Tyron. His real name was Beyron. I don’t know why he left Eldoria but perhaps it was because he did not like the fact that he is a vampire

“He is not a vampire! I am not a vampire!” I thrashed against the rope that restrained me and I felt the bed move because of my force. “My family did not come from Eldoria, Andreas. Whoever that woman is, she was telling
lies-”
“But she isn’t. Your bloodline has always been vampires. You were born humans because of a pact your ancestors made–”
“No!” I cut him off and before I knew it, I was not on the bed anymore but strangling him. He did not fight me

back. He let me slam him on the floor and he let me grab his neck. There was nothing but understanding in his eyes and I hated it because it made his words sound more real than ever. That I am a vampire. And that would mean there is nothing out there that would turn me back to what I was before. That he feels sorry for what I have
become. I hated that look,
“You’re lying. Why are you lying?” My hands tightened around his throat and he’s not even budging.
“I am not lying. You’re just refusing to accept the truth. And I understand-”
“No, you don’t! You don’t understand how I feel! I don’t want to be a vampire. Please turn me back to who I was before. Turn me back to being human–”
Without warning, I was lifted off my feet and slammed against the wall, pinned by an unseen force. Across the room, Andreas remained rooted to the spot, his shock mirroring my own. We both turned to the door when we heard someone coming in. The moment I saw the woman’s face, I gasped. It was the first I saw her and yet…. couldn’t help but feel like I had seen her before.
Her eyes met mine and she angled her head, smiling in a way that reminded me of my father. My heart hurt and bit back my sob.
“What are you doing here?” asked Andreas and the woman ignored him. She walked past him and stood in front of me. Whatever invisible magic stopping me from moving was surely coming from him.
“Hello, my dear niece,” she greeted, angling her head, and scanning my face. Then she nodded and said, “There is no doubt about it. Our resemblance would make people think you’re my daughter.” Her gentle smile warmed something in me. She reminded me so much of my father and I hated how Andreas’ words were starting to
sound more true.
“You–”
She nodded. “Yes. My name’s Guinevere and I am
your remaining family.”
“Let her go,” Andreas said behind her but Guinevere just waved a hand.
“And murder you? I would do it but I realized you are my niece’s husband. I couldn’t possibly kill a family, can 17”
Confusion still clouded my head and I don’t know where I should start with all this information laid before me. could not utter a single word as I did not know what to say. I have never seen this woman before and now she’s standing in front of me, looking exactly like my father and telling me I am her niece.

“I came here to tell her personally about her lineage. I think it’s about time.” Her words cut through me and I blinked, feeling the reality once more.
“Time for what?” I managed to croak out. She smiled.
“Time for you to know about yourself, girl.” She raised a hand and I felt the invisible ties around my body loosen. “But first, I need you to promise me that you’re not going to attack anyone as I tell you everything. I think you’re reasonable enough to believe that I am your relative.”
Our resemblance was hard to deny and I swallowed hard, dreading the fact.
I nodded at her and I felt my feet touch the floor. My knees went weak but I remained standing as I looked at her.
“My father is gone. Why did you not see him in his last hours?”
Silence wrapped around us and I saw the sadness filling her gaze.
“Your father left and chose to forget about his lineage for the same reason you have. Your father hated the vampires. I figured he would hate it if I showed myself and introduced myself to you. As much as possible, he did not want anything to do with them. His hatred for vampires started when our mother–your grandmother– died at the hands of a vampire. So he swore not to become one. He swore not to become the very kind that killed our mother. He swore not to become like me.”
She walked closer to me. “Our ancestor made a pact with a coven. She asked the witches to turn her into humans and this resulted to the descendants being born as humans. However, if a Silvana kills someone, it would break our human nature and hence, we become who we truly are– vampires.”
I choked a s ob but Guinevere was not done.
“I know this is too much for you to take but there is more. In exchange for our ancestor’s request, the witches. asked for something in return. And that is for them to have the firstborn of every generation under the coven. That is why I became a witch because I am the firstborn of my generation. Before I became a witch, I turned into a vampire after I accidentally killed a vampire as well who tried to harass me.”
The weight of Guinevere’s revelations pressed down on me like an impossible burden, each word chipping away at the fragile walls of denial I had constructed around myself. As she spoke, I struggled to reconcile the truth she laid bare with the comforting lies I had clung to for so long.
My father’s hidden past, our supposed lineage tracing back to Eldoria, the vampire kingdom-the very thought

sent shivers down my spine, unsettling the foundation of everything I thought I knew about myself. Adding to that, I am the firstborn of my generation. That would mean that the witches want me to be one of them.

Andreas’ presence beside her offered no solace, his silence was confirmation enough of the veracity of Guinevere’s claims. With each passing moment, the weight of my denial grew heavier, threatening to crush me.
“I think your father left and chose to forget about our lineage for that very reason. He knew the witches would come for you. But you have already stepped one foot into the realms of your real identity. There is no going back
now.”
I stared at her, stared at the eyes I see in the mirror every morning.
“Did you come here to take me then? To make me a witch?” My voice wavered with exhaustion.
She smiled. “I can try but I know you wouldn’t let me. However, it would only be a matter of time before the others from the Delfina coven would come for you as well.”
“What are you here for, then?”
Her eyes went solemn as she looked at me. “Is it so wrong for me to be with the only family I have left?”
