Chapter 59

ANDREAS

The moment I opened my eyes, my body was instantly on high alert. I jumped out from the altar where I was placed. I was aware of what had happened and how I lost consciousness. I was aware of everything and I have not forgotten why I was in this Kingdom in the first place.

“You woke up sooner than I anticipated.” I spotted Guinevere standing meters away from where I was.

She was angling her head as though she was trying to read me. I straightened and met her gaze with an equally

cool one.

“I knew you were quite an interesting fellow the moment I saw you. You smell like a human and yet… I can smell your thirst for blood from a mile away.” She stepped closer.

“Carol told me you are the infamous warlord who dominated the borders of Veridia, shooing away the vampires. Initially, I thought that’s why you smell like blood. But then as I got a closer look…” she trailed off and then her gaze met mine. “You are quite special, I must say.”

They say witches are the most dangerous of the supernatural beings. Five witches against a hundred vampires or wolves– the witches can turn it into a massacre. I have only known one witch and that is Nadia and I know the extent of her power. Even as I have already become a warrior, I don’t doubt Nadia could snap my neck before I could even speak.

“As much as I’d like to hear more of your compliments, I’m afraid I have more pressing matters to discuss with.

you.”

Her expression then turned grave and that was my cue to continue.

“I saw your name on the journal. You’re a Silvana.”

She let out a scoff. “And that was enough to prompt you to come to Evercrest and talk to me.”

“I know you know why I have come here. I told you Henrietta turned. She was devastated and I need to find. answers to tell her, at least.”

She stared at me for a while and then she sighed. “And you are assuming she’s somewhat related to me.”

“Just tell me what you know. Anything at all. And I shall leave.”

Silence enveloped us in its embrace and Guinevere was staring at me, as though he was trying to read something. After a moment, she went to sit onto one of the seats and looked at me.

“I have e never met her but I have heard of her. Her father, Beyron, is my brother.”

“He was not called Beyron.”

She waved a dismissive hand. “I was aware of that. Tyron, was it?”

I nodded.

“There is one thing you need to know about the Silvana’s, young man.” Her expression turned darker and I braced myself for whatever it was she was to tell me.

“We have always been vampires. The difference is that, while normal vampires can’t procreate, the Silvanas can. Because we were born humans.”

My brows furrowed, trying to make sense of it but she was not done and she went on.

‘Many generations ago, one of our ancestors, Tamara, dared to defy the rigid boundaries between our kind and humans. In a time when such unions were forbidden, Tamara’s heart led her to fall in love with a human. Despite the societal constraints and the risks involved, Tamara was determined to be with the man she loved, no matter the consequences. Her courage and defiance set the stage for the events that would shape our family’s destiny.” Guinevere’s gaze held a somber intensity, as if the weight of centuries rested upon her shoulders, and I could feel the pieces of the puzzle slowly aligning before me.

“She made herself human,” I continued and she nodded.

“Tamara’s resolve led her to seek aid from a coven of witches, willing to make any sacrifice to be with her beloved. Through their powerful magic, her wish was granted, and she was transformed into a human. However, the price demanded by the witches was steep, as such powerful magic always exacts its toll.” Her eyes weighed a weight as she lit another candle, adding to light that illuminated the compact room.

“The coven of witches set forth a steep price for granting Tamara’s desire-a price that would exist through generations. They demanded that each firstborn Silvana of every subsequent generation be offered to them,

destined to undergo their rites of initiation to become a witch. However, being human for a Silvana is not permanent. The latent vampire nature within Silvanas remained dormant, awaiting only the trigger of killing

someone to awaken once more.”

The weight of Guinevere’s revelation hit me like a thunderbolt. I stood frozen, trying to grasp the implications. “Henrietta is her father’s firstborn. Does that mean…”

She nodded. “As agreed between Tamara and the coven, she should be given to the witches.”

I stared at her. “You became a witch because of the pact?”

“I went through the Awakening rite and yes, that’s how I became a witch.”

A sense of dread settled over me like a heavy cloak. Henrietta, the firstborn of her generation, was destined to be given to the witches as part of the agreement struck centuries ago. It was a fate predetermined by the actions of her ancestors, a burden she never asked for yet one she had to bear nonetheless.

Henrietta’s transformation into a vampire was not merely a random occurrence but a consequence of her

lineage.

But despite the grim nature of our conversation, a glimmer of hope flickered within me. If Henrietta’s transformation was a result of the ancient pact, then perhaps there was a way to reverse it, to break the chains that bound her to her destiny. It would not be easy, and the path ahead would be fraught with danger and uncertainty, but I was determined to do whatever it took to free Henrietta from the shackles of her lineage.

“Is there a way for me to turn her back to human?”

She shook her head. “If Henrietta turned into a vampire, then that would mean she killed someone. There is no other way for a Silvana to become a vampire and no way to turn her back to what she was born with.”

As the image of the grisly scene played out in my mind, I couldn’t shake the realization that Henrietta’s fate had been sealed by her own hand. Her desperate act of self-defense, the killing of the vampire, had unwittingly triggered the transformation that bound her to her ancestral curse. It was a cruel twist of fate, one that she could never have foreseen.

How do I go about this with her?

something to do with her blood. Now, it is something I need to figure out.

As the weight of the revelations settled in, I found myself grappling with the implications of what Guinevere had disclosed. Henrietta’s transformation was not just a matter of her being turned into a vampire but a deeper, ancestral aspect of her lineage. It was a curse intertwined with a pact made with a witch coven.

“You must not remain here for long, warrior. The coven does not know anything about Henrietta. You should leave,” she said, a sense of urgency in her voice.

With a final nod of gratitude to Guinevere, I turned on my heel and made my way out of the chamber, my mind racing with plans and possibilities. Henrietta needed me now more than ever. It devastated her how she turned into a vampire. I don’t know how long it would take her to accept her identity but I am guessing it would take long enough.

As I stepped out into the cool night air, I took a deep breath as I still tried to grapple with the revelations revealed to me by Guinevere, the only living relative that Henrietta has. Does she even know of her aunt’s existence? What would she think about her aunt being a witch and that she would have to go through the same thing being the

firstborn?

“Don’t ever come back here,” I heard the familiar voice again and I turned to see the witch named Carol whom I

met earlier.

I smiled. “As much as I want to stay away, I couldn’t. So I will be seeing you in the future, Carol.”

She frowned and before she could respond, I was already moving back to Veridia. The surroundings blur as I sped up. With each step forward, I pushed aside the doubts. Henrietta is a strong woman. I shouldn’t worry about how she would handle the revelations I am about to tell her.

Standing before the manor, I wasted no time, swiftly entering upon hearing her voice. The moment I opened the chamber door, I saw Dreyfus first, wiping the blood at the side of his mouth. And when my gaze landed in the center of the room, I saw Henrietta sitting over Aiden’s stomach with her hand around his throat.

I could not believe the sight but I knew that at that moment, Henrietta would not hesitate to sink her fangs into my beta’s neck. With dread coursing through me, I lunged forward, tackling Henrietta to the ground just as her fangs threatened to pierce my beta’s neck. Her eyes were wild and I knew that her vampiric instincts were starting to get the better of her.

Henrietta,” I called out, and she ceased thrashing the moment my voice reached her ears. I heaved a sigh of relief

but dread was still in me.

The persistent gnawing in my gut was relentless, a relentless reminder of the insatiable hunger that clawed at my insides. It was a sensation I fought to ignore, to push down deep into the recesses of my being, but its presence lingered like a haunting specter, always there, always demanding attention.

I pleaded with Andreas, begged him to bind me, to tether me to the bed in a feeble attempt to restrain the ravenous urges that almost took control of my body. His eyes, once warm and full of affection, now bore the weight of worry and uncertainty as he reluctantly complied with my desperate request. Although, I don’t know if these feeble constraints would even stop me once my instincts get the better of me.

Turning my gaze towards Andreas, I found him standing by the window, his silhouette outlined against the fading light of dusk. Though his attention seemed fixed on the world beyond the glass, I couldn’t shake the feeling that there was something he longed to tell me, something he was holding back.

The air between us crac kled with unspoken words, weighted with the scene he watched unfold earlier. I almost bit Aiden and if he had not arrived, I would have done so.

Each fleeting glance he cast in my direction spoke volumes. Yet, as the moments stretched into eternity, the chasm of silence between us widened. The look on his face was inscrutable. I don’t know what he’s thinking at

all. I don’t know what he thinks of me now that I am a different creature from what he used to know me a

“What is it?” I finally asked, averting my gaze from his silhouette.

In my periphery, I saw him turn to look at me. “I know there is something you wish to tell me, so say it.”

Silence enveloped us once again. “Henrietta, I wish I could say it easily–

st say it, Andreas.” I have prepared myself for what he was about to say. I would understand if he would tell

me that I am a liability to him now more than a valuable partner in exacting his revenge. I would understand if he would decide not to do anything with me.

I tried my best to stop the tears that threatened to fall. Thankfully, they did not trickle down my cheeks. I felt the bed shift and then I realized he sat next to me, prompting me to look at him.

And yet, he was just staring at me, as though he wanted me to read what was in his eyes. But all I saw was the
