Chapter 26
DELTA LANDON.
"Adessa is in danger." Alpha Kael said, and I wanted to jump out of my seat.
What the fuck happened to his statement: "I can't trust anyone at the moment?"
I wanted to laugh, but the seriousness on the Alpha's face made me swallow my chuckle. I had no idea what he planned to do, as he didn't tell me anything, but I guess I just had to wait and see.
"What do you mean Adessa is in danger?" Dexter asked. "Where is she?"
"I thought she left." Desiree butted in, her arms crossed against her chest. "Did she accidentally trip on her own feet and land face down on the ground full of shattered glass so she looks so awful that she became a danger to herself?" "Enough, Desire..." Miranda cut her off, and Desiree just rolled her eyes before letting out a huff.
Miranda then turned her attention to the Alpha. "Where is she? And why is she in danger?" She sounded so concerned that I wanted to laugh again.
If anyone here didn't like Luna Adessa, Miranda would be the first on the line.
"At the moment, she's safe. I put her in a secure place until I can figure out why someone is trying to hurt her." Kael answered her.
"You mean to say you know where she is?" Miranda repeated. "Right?"
Alpha Kael nodded before leaning forward, resting his clasped hands on his desk. "She's safe at the moment, but I don't know for how long. I have to find out who's trying to hurt her."
"Hmmm..." Dexter mummed, and all eyes went to him. "Don't you think it's much safer for her if she's here in the pack? We can all protect her rather than have her somewhere where no one is around her."
"No. I'm not moving her from where she is. It's more dangerous." Kael answered.
"How did you find her?" Dexter asked again. "Did you meet her today?"
"I don't need to explain that further. What is important is that she's safe. I called you here so we could discuss more important details." Kael eased back on his chair, one hand remaining on his desk. He grabbed a pen and began playing with it as his eyes roamed around his office. "Since I don't have any memories of the last two years, I want the names of people I clashed with and any potential enemies that want to hurt her. A list of people who disrespected her, whether pack members or from another pack."
"I'm sure... I'm sure there's a lot. Adessa has never had a good relationship with anyone in this pack. So everyone can be a suspect." Miranda immediately spoke.
"Is that true?" Kael asked, his forehead creasing as he stared at his stepmother.
Miranda nodded her head a little too quickly in response.
"That means even you can be a suspect, right?" He pointed the pen in her direction. "You never seem to like my ex-wife."
"What?" Miranda gasped, hands clutching her chest as her face showed disbelief.
"Ex-wife! Ex-wife!" Desiree burst into a sarcastic laughter as she rose from her seat, and all eyes went to her.
I knew another emotional speech would come out, and it would always melt Kael's heart. This pattern had been consistent throughout their years together. Emotional blackmail, I would say, and Kael would always fall for it. "Desiree..." Kael said, and I was right. I could see guilt in his expression.
"I'm not sure why I was invited here. Am I supposed to hear how you are willing to go all out to protect your ex-wife? She's no longer here, but it seems she's still the Luna of this pack and still your priority while you can't even spend time with me." Kael was just looking at her with the same guilty expression.
"And how sure are you that Adessa
is not making all this up that someone is trying to hurt her? What if this is all a game she's playing so you can manipulate you to get back with her? And where does that leave me? I'll be disposed of again, like what you did to me before?" She added.
The Alpha let out a sigh before speaking. "Everyone out except you, Desiree. We need to talk."
Miranda didn't need any more instruction. She stood up and headed straight for the door while Dexter gave the Alpha a nod before following her. I was on the verge of following her when Desiree spoke again, so I took my time getting up from my seat to watch her.
Her eyes squinted as she walked
forward and stood in front of Alpha Kael's desk. "No. We are not going to talk right now because you demand it. I'm not in the mood. Next time you discuss your dear ex-wife and how you are willing to pull heaven and hell together to protect her, make sure I am out of earshot. I'm not stupid, Kael. I'm not going to stand here and let her destroy our relationship like she did a year ago."
She didn't let him say anything and just walked away, shutting the door as she left.
I went after her, but just to lock the door before turning around and standing in front of the Alpha's desk, my palms resting on the table as I leaned forward. "What the hell happened to: I can't trust anyone? Why did you tell them she's in danger?" I asked in almost a whisper.
The office was soundproof, and you could barely hear anything from the outside, but better safe than sorry.
"My primary concern is that if any of
them are working with Draco, they will soon find out she didn't make it to his pack. But if they know she's in my care, they will watch me instead of sending people out to track her. I need them out of her way
I can
find her." He replied in a burched tone
as well.
I let out a sigh of relief before slumping my body on the chair in front of his table.
"I'm putting my whole trust in you, Landon. I want to believe your loyalty is with me."
I sat straight and looked him in the eye. "When did I ever fail you, Kael?"
"No one has to know that I have no fucking idea where she is, but I need to find her soon before it's too late."
I nodded my head.
"We need to keep the pack going while we do that. I will contact Rasmus and ask for his help tracking Adessa. That way, I can be sure no news will spread out that she's missing."
Alpha Rasmus is his cousin from his mother's side. He ruled the territory on the other side of the country.
Unlike Kael, Rasmus was more of a happy-go-lucky kind of man. He's a year older than him, and we all went to the same university. They were inseparable then, but the contact almost ceased once they both stepped up as Alphas of their pack, aside from the occasional invites for big events.
I was aware that Alpha Rasmus received an invitation to his wedding with Adessa, but he failed to attend. Despite that, there was never any bad blood between them. They were simply occupied with their own duties.
"How about Stefan? He knows she's missing." I asked.
"Stefan and Dexter never got along well, so I'm sure there's no problem in keeping that information away from him. I doubt he will go directly to Miranda, as my stepmother never bothers..."
"To speak with lowly creatures who just suck money from the Alpha." I completed it for him. It was a joke, but Kael didn't even smile or shake his head as he usually did. This topic was surely a serious matter to him.
"I need the case for my accident reopened." He added, and I nodded my head. "I don't want to think it this way, but it's possible that the person who did this to Adessa also wants me out of the way."
