Chapter 25
They let Isobel go home with her parents. As they walk out, Isobel freezes when she sees him. He's looking right at her with this smile on his face, like he knows her.
"Who is that?"
A car passes between them and he disappears.
"Who honey?"
Isobel shakes her head, "I don't know..."
They pull her into the car and head home. She tries to forget about him, but she can't seem to forget his eyes. They were a mesmerizing grey, almost molten.
They get back to the house and Kendra decides to stay and have a sleep over like they used to. Isobel moves in a fog, unable to sleep. Instead, she decides to pull out her laptop and do some research.
She types into the search bar anything that she remembers from the dream, hoping it will get some hits.
Faeries...
Only hits about little tinkerbell types from old wives tales.
Royal family of England and Scotland...
The Windsor Family has been the ruling family of England, Scotland, Ireland, and Wales among many other countries for centuries.
Isobel frowns. "I guess it was all a dream..."
The days start to fly by, blurring into each other. Kendra is her rock through all of it, helping her get back on her feet, helping her take care of herself. It isn't long until she's able to go back to work at a flower shop. She loses track of how long it's been since her accident, Kendra having convinced her to move on with her life.
She has seen the mysterious man every single day since the accident. She doesn't know who he is, and she's tried going after him but he always disappears. She thinks she's heard his voice too, but she isn't sure. More than once a week she'll wake up to hear a voice call out to her.
"Isobel... Come back to me Isobel..."
She rubs her face as she waters the plants in the greenhouse. She has been losing more and more sleep recently, as if she's anxious down to her very soul. Kendra helps relax her, but she can only do so much.
She looks up and almost screams. It's him. He's there in the greenhouse with her.
"Isobel... Please come back to me..."
"What do you mean? Who are you?" The man comes closer, reaching out to her.
"I need you, Isobel... Please don't die on me..."
"Die on you? I'm not dying! Who are you?!" Isobel is yelling towards the end, tears streaming down her face.
The man reaches out to touch her face. She looks at his hand, debating whether she should let him touch her. She looks into his eyes and is overwhelmed with a feeling of trust. She closes her eyes as she feels his warm hand touch her face. Images of him doing the same action but in other settings flood her mind. Of them in a flat. Them at a winery.
"Austin..."
The smile that takes over his face sends warmth to her bones.
