Chapter 24
Isobel wakes up with a start, looking around the room. Is she in a hospital? A nurse comes in and sees she's awake.
"Well hello there! I'm glad to see you're awake! You gave us quite a scare. How are you feeling?"
Isobel blinks, "Confused. Where am I?"
The nurse smiles warmly, "Of course, dear. You're in a hospital in London. You were in a car accident."
"What happened? Where are my parents? Where's Austin?"
The nurse looks confused, "Who is Austin honey? Your parents are at home. They and your friend Kendra have been by your side since you came in."
Isobel rubs her head, suddenly getting a headache. "Right... Of course... Am I able to go home?"
The nurse checks her vitals, "Well, the doctor will need to check you over again, but I can call your parents and by the time they get here you should be cleared."
Isobel nods, "Thanks. I had a really weird dream."
"Is that where Austin came from?"
Isobel frowns, "Must have been. It's getting fuzzy though."
The nurse nods, "Well you did hit your head in the accident, so you might have trouble with short term memory at first. Let me get the doctor and make that phone call. I'll be back in a little bit."
A short time later her parents burst into the room. "Isobel! Thank God you're awake!"
Her parents hug her tightly, her mum kissing her head all over.
Isobel can't help but laugh, "Mum! I'm okay. I just don't remember what happened."
"I think I can help with that..." A woman walks into her room. Isobel doesn't immediately recognize her, but she knows her from somewhere.
"We went to a club... I had way too much to drink so you dragged me out. I was distracting you while you were driving, and we got hit. I'm so sorry Izzy. If anything had happened to you... my best friend in the world..." She shakes her head, wiping tears from her cheeks.
"Kendra..." She looks up at Isobel and she gets another headache. Suddenly images flash through her head. Her and Kendra as children playing in her back yard. Them going to school together. It feels like her whole life flashes before her eyes. She winces from the pain, causing them all to swarm her.
"I'm okay. Just a headache." Isobel smiles, hoping to reassure them.
The doctor comes in and gets her vitals. "Now the nurse told me that you were having memory problems and that you were having bad dreams? She said you asked about an Austin?'
Isobel nods, "I don't remember the dream now though, and I don't know any Austin."
The doctor sighs, "I'm reserved about letting you go home, but as long as you promise to take it easy and come back in if there are any problems or if you notice any changes."
Isobel nods, "I promise."
