The Falcon Ridge Series Book 4: Art of a Girl

Chapter 64

(Chapter song ‘Hurts Like Hell’ by Fleurie)

WREN

“Wren! Hey, Wren!”

I glance behind me as I adjust the strap of my duffle bag on my shoulder. I huff and roll my eyes as I turn forward and step around people in the crowded halls of the Falcon Ridge dorms.

In my mind, I’m begging to be left alone, but apparently some people are incapable of that.

He slides up beside me and straightens his blue military shirt. He fixes his dog tags and puffs out his chest like it’s going to matter.

“What do you want, Grey?” I mumble as I turn toward the elevators.

“Nothing, really. I heard from Wes that you’re moving in with Bastian. Is it true?” He smiles that fake smile at me and again, I roll my eyes.

“I’m not moving in with Bastian. Grow up. I’m taking a room so it will be easier to train the Luna.” I stop at the elevator doors and press the first floor button.

He leans his elbow on the wall and places his hand behind his light brown hair. He makes sure I have full view of his flexed bicep. Does he not realize that I’m surrounded by muscle all fucking day?

“Sure. That’s understandable. Anyways, I was thinking, before you go, I could buy you a beer… You know, as a good bye.” He grins.

“Ugh. I’m not leaving the country, Grey. It'll be a couple weeks tops. I'm just going as a favor to Bastian and help Camilla with Sam's wolf. And no. I don’t want to have a drink with you.” The door opens, I step on and he follows. The guys like a lost puppy. He’ll follow a pair of legs anywhere.

“Why not?” He crosses his arms and leans on the wall. “I’m fun. I’m charismatic… Hey. Who’s funny as fuck? This guy.” He thumbs to his chest.

“I know who’s not getting the message. That guy!” I stare straight and thumb to him as the car starts to drop.

Then he becomes typical Grey Andrews. “Come on, Wren.” He flops his hand out to me. “You haven’t dated anyone since Jayson. I’ve been trying for a year. At least give me a shot. You never know. We might have serious connections. If things work out, we could party at Black Rocks Blue Moon ball this year.”

I spin around and my black hair whips around. “Tell me, Grey. What makes you think I would even want to be part of ‘The Grey Andrews Blue Moon Hit List'?”

He blinks for a second. “Well…I mean…I’m not Wes so…”

“Ugh!” I scowl as the door opens and I step out.

“WREN!” He jogs to me as I walk around people to get out of this building. “You can’t tell me Jayson ruined you for every other males. Especially one as hot as me.”

I stop, turn and drop my bag. I press my lips together and stare at him as his lips shrink. “No. Grey. Jay didn’t ruin me. Love did. Anyone who tells you to date for love is full of shit. It doesn’t exist. It didn’t exist with Jayson. And it never will exist. The sooner people realize that, the better everyone will be. The minute all this fake love crap comes into the picture, prepare for a shitload of disappointment and pain. That’s all there is to it.” I snatch my bag, sling my strap over my shoulder, and walk away.

“COME ON, WREN! IF YOU DIDN’T LOVE JAYSON, YOU MUST HAVE LOVED SOMEONE TO HATE LIKE THAT!”

I feel my face heat as I shove the door to the outside open. My chin quivers as I head to my Jeep. “I did…”

I jump in, let out a shaky breath and hold the guitar ornament hanging off my rear view mirror. I can feel tears come and I choke them down. I drop the ornament, start the engine and put it in gear.

“…then he died.”

I hit the gas and peel out of the Unit headed for Black Rock.
