The Earth Shifter

Chapter Chapter Seven

Do you ever have that urge to cry since you wake up till the night? For no particular reason. You just feel devastated and useless in this world.

Well, that’s exactly how I felt this morning and still not out of this mode yet. I’m not usually like this. Nearly all the time I’m so happy and dreaming about my future life and shining career. But today it was nothing like that.

My hair and clothes were soaked from the tears of the sky, mirroring my exact emotions, while I ran down the street holding the magazine above my head. Hopelessly trying to keep the rain away from me.

Me, Lilly, Erik and Aaron have made plans to meet at Pizza hut for dinner. I’ll let them pay for my dinner this time because I’m totally out of money.

I reached the restaurant to find my friends sitting on a long table and already saving me a chair. I smiled thinking that maybe this part of my life isn’t as bad as the others and maybe they’re the reason of my first smile today.

I sat on the chair not even bothering to say hi. I heard them chatting about the money and when dropped onto the chair next to Lilly they all stopped to look at me.

“You’re a mess,” Erik said laughing.

“Say something new.” I told him.

“You’re gonna get sick that way.” Aaron said scowling at me.

“No, I’m not.” I exclaimed snatching his black jacket from the back of his chair, where he hung it and put it on.

For me it was over sized but I didn’t care all I wanted was to feel warm because this place’s air conditioner felt like we were at the north pole. I untangled my different type bracelets from the sleeve. They were all colors and varies from rubber to string to leather to metal to every other kind that is on this earth. I was wearing over ten ones maybe.

I may have gone overboard with them today but it’s only because I felt devastated and they always make me feel happy.

“Wow, These are so many bracelets you’re wearing,” Aaron looked amazed.

“I like bracelets,” I told him easily.

“Don’t go there Aaron. You can never convince her not to wear bracelets.” Lilly said.

“It’s impossible. She loves them like they’re her little babies,” Erik completed and Aaron laughed flashing those cute dimples.

“She even has a little house for them,” Lilly said. And I remembered showing her the place where I keep all of them. It’s a big box that looks like the Barbie house only painted red and covered with skull stickers.

“Really? Well, That’s cute.” He said smiling.

“Okay, all I have to say is that I love my bracelets and no matter how much I tell you would never understand,” I defended myself hugging them lovingly.

“I’m sure we do,” Aaron told me. But I barely even heard him when I noticed my brown special one and kept staring at it longingly. Only if he was here my happiness would be completed.

“Can we please order the pizza now cause I’m really starving?” Erik said obviously catching my glossy eyes. Aaron seemed to notice too but decided to close his mouth when Erik gave him the look not to ask, which I’m very thankful for.

Why do I have to put myself in so many embarrassing situations because I can’t control my trapped emotions?

“Whatever you say brother,” Lilly told him and then we did as he requested.

We ate, chatted and had a bunch of fun. Then the waitress came and gave us the invoice and walked away.

Someone had to pay.

They all looked at me...

“What? No way I don’t have enough money,” I told them honestly.

“Neither do I.” Lilly said finishing her pizza.

“Aaron?” I asked him.

“No, I paid yesterday. I’m not gonna pay for food every day,” He said shaking his head.

“What kind of a gentleman doesn’t want to pay for others?” I told him and he looked at the ground.

“Well, if I had any money at all. I wouldn’t have let you pay for it,” He told me honestly looking rather embarrassed than anything else.

“That’s okay. I’m sure we’ll figure it out.” I said.

Then all of us looked at Erik he must have had some money left from his uncle.

He sighed and took out some from his pocket and put it on the table.

“Where’s the rest?” I asked him; this wasn’t enough.

“That’s it. I’m out,” He said sitting comfortably in his chair with no responsibility whatsoever. I eyed him suspiciously.

“You finished all the money they gave you in only one week?” I asked surprised but then realized that he might not have finished them.

“Erik,” I pronounced his name slowly. I know him that well to find out that he was lying. He didn’t answer me and kept staring out the window.

However, Lliana didn’t seem to surrender yet. She stood up and grabbed her brother from his sweater Frisking him and padding down his clothes carefully. He looked around him looking at the people starring at him.

“What are you doing? I already told you I don’t have any...” He stopped shortly when he saw his sister with the money in her hands. She found it in his socks.

“There. I knew you were hiding it somewhere,” She exclaimed smiling victoriously. He sighed and dropped sadly on the chair. We put all the money together and paid for the food.

After paying we sat on the same table online trying to find some jobs. It was an emergency we seriously need some money. Erik was also searching for us.

We didn’t find anything fit enough so we gave up and got out of the restaurant. Well, the waitress practically kicked us out just being honest.

We got out walking along the wet street. The rain has stopped and the weather is nice and cool now.

“So Aaron, Do you have any hobbies you like doing? ” I asked him thinking that I don’t know enough about him. So I was trying knowing him better.

Lilly and Erik were walking behind us. I think they’re arguing, as usual about her embarrassing him and him being selfish.

“Yes, I really like surfing.” As long as I heard his answer, I stopped walking stunned. Could that be a stupid coincidence?

“What?” He asked me.

Lilly ran into me not aware that I’ve already stopped walking.

“You actually like surfing.” I stated.

“Yes, is that something bad?” He asked confused. I shut my mouth and started walking again.

“No, Not at all. It’s pretty cool,” I answered giving him the best smile I could master. I can’t believe it. He’s a surfer just like him.

“Who are your favorite surfers?” I asked dragging a normal conversation. He listed a lot of surfers and I knew most of them so I continued talking about everyone of them. And then we talked about the surfboards and the types of waves.

“You really know a lot about surfing ,don’t you?”

“Yes, I do.”

“So you are a surfer too.” He concluded.

“No, I don’t really like water but my... older brother was a surfer so,” I said leaving him the rest to figure out.

“That’s amazing I should see him someday.” He said with enthusiasm.

I didn’t say anything and kept walking silently for some time when someone patted my shoulders. I turned around to find a man with sharp black eyes with a thick mustache with the same matching color. He was wearing a suit.

“Yes?” I said.

“Hi, I’m professor Hendrix,” He offered me his hand and I looked at him in fear for a moment but I think that there’s nothing to worry about so I took it and shook his hand.

“Can I help you?” I asked.

“Actually it’s the other way around. I’m offering you and your friends some help. A work to be exact.” He smiled like he just won a million dollars.

I gaped at him with one question in my head.

Is this man crazy, or my luck is finally changing?
