The Demon's Claim [House of Arcane #2]

Chapter 4: The Title

Logan O’Sullivan’s POV

‘Congratulations, Mr. O’Sullivan. You are officially married and I hope you have a wonderful marriage till the end of time,’ the officer said as I was smiling at him before I ushered Nora out of the office.

We were married now and I don’t feel anything at all. Why are there no reaction at all for my powers to come? Was it not right?

‘I hope you’re happy since I will not be spending some time together with you, Mr. O’Sullivan,’ Nora hissed at me as we were walking out of the city hall. I was holding my chuckle inside me as I was dragging her to my convertible.

It was nothing like Nora’s but it will have to do. It was a VW Eos anyway. Nothing fancy like a BMW. Nora grunted before I unlocked the car as I was moving to the passenger seat. I opened the door for Nora as she was glaring at me.

‘I thought we were done, Logan. Now, where are you taking me?’ she asked as I was tilting my head toward her.

‘You will see. Now, get inside,’

‘No,’ she said as she was crossing her arms in front of her chest. The chest that was rising and falling as I can sense her anger was rolling off from her skin.

She was mad with me, I can sense it.

I sighed before I was putting my hands on the hood and on the door. Nora was trapped inside my arms as I was looking into her blue-green eyes. Her blonde mane was catching the sunlight as it was glistening in my eyes.

‘Nora. We are officially married and I have to take you home now,’ I said as Nora was narrowing her eyes at me.

‘If you think for a second that I will sleep with you, Logan O’Sullivan—‘

‘As if I will be sleeping with you,’ I cut her off before she was arching her eyebrow at me. I sighed before I was rubbing my mouth with my hand.

‘Look, I married you not because I was so desperate for a woman in my bed but rather the society was asking me for it. I have been alone for some time now that my family thought I was gay. And I wanted to prove them wrong for I am a very straight man. Nothing with gay people but I am not one of them. I have no issue with them though,’ I said as Nora was tilting her head now.

‘So, you’re saying that you married me because you are not ready to tie down with anyone else with emotions?’ she asked me before I was closing my eyes.

‘Technically yes. I have someone else in my heart and it is definitely not you,’ I said as I was opening my eyes. Her blue-green eyes looked at me as if they were hurting by my comment but before I can say anything else, Nora looked at the ground.

‘Oh, I see. Then, why don’t you marry her then? Why you married me?’ Nora asked quietly before I was feeling a tug of pain in my chest. I have to get it out. Sooner or later, she will know about it eventually.

‘Because she’s dead,’ and I have to find her reincarnation if I wanted to survive this world. I have to find my Cornelia.

‘I’m sorry. I did not know,’ she said before I waved my hand at her, shaking my head.

‘It was a long time ago and my cousin has been wanting to get me a girlfriend,’ I said before Nora chuckled. I turned to look at her, surprised to see that she saw humor in my situation.

‘But you tied yourself down with a wife instead,’ she said before I was looking at her easy smile. Her blue-green eyes were shining and the soft breeze was caressing her long, straight blonde mane.

‘Yes, I hope that he will just shut up about it later on,’ I said as I was looking at her face. If I was not too attached to Cornelia, I would say that I fell in love with Nora McCarthy for she was fun to talk to if she was not angry with me.

My heart ached for Cornelia to be here right by my side.

‘Come on,’ I said as I was nodding at the car, ‘We have to say hi to my family or they will be losing their minds if they found out that I married without inviting them,’ I said as Nora smirked at me.

‘And they will be shitting about it for years to come,’ she said as she slid inside the car. I smiled before I was leaning closer to her, wanting to smell her signature perfume.

Be Delicious by DKNY.

‘Let’s hope that will never happen if we’re hurry up,’ I said as I closed the door before moving onto the driver seat and got inside. I turned on the engine and shifted the gear before I went to O’Sullivan’s mansion.

I just hoped that my father will not be freaking out but I can always tap my follower down if he forgot his place.

I am after all, still Lord of the Underworld by birthright, just in mortal form right now.

Nora McCarthy’s POV

I was still cannot believe the size of Logan’s house. It was not a house anyway, it was a mansion and I was standing in front of its giant oak doors as I was gripping Logan’s hand.

‘Do not be afraid. They will not be eating you, literally,’ Logan joked before I was glaring at him. I was taking a deep breath before I was trying to make sure that I looked presentable. Then, the huge doors opened and I was greeted with the bright sunlight in the parlor as the old man who dressed in penguin suit was greeting us.

‘Welcome home, my lord,’ he said before Logan was pulling me inside.

‘Thank you. Where is my father?’ Logan asked the penguin man as he took off his coat and handed it to him. He did for me as well before I was turning around to look at the huge parlor.

It was like I was stepping back into Victorian age, one of the duke’s houses.

‘He was waiting for you and your—‘ the butler looked at me before he cleared his throat, ‘wife, sir,’ he said before Logan nodded .

‘Thank you. You are excused,’ he said before he was gripping my hand again and pulled me toward the stairs. We ascended to the second floor as I was looking at the surroundings. There were some portraits that were hanging on the walls dated back to the Medieval era.

I can see that Logan came from a family of money.

Logan pushed open the door that I assumed where his father was waiting. I looked at the library that has books from ceiling to floor and I cannot think about anything else.

This is my paradise.

‘Ah, I see that you have brought her home, Logan,’ said a petite, feminine voice before I turned to look at the woman with peculiar eyes.

Violet. How uncanny.

I stopped and stared at her as she moved with grace. I don’t know what was it about her but I felt like I wanted to get to know her. To do her bidding but when Logan was putting his hand on my lower back, I was snapped back to the moment.

What just happened?

‘Lia, you know that you should not do that. Not when I just brought my wife here,’ Logan warned Lia, as he called her, but the petite woman just smiled at him and winked at me.

‘I can see that you are protective of her, cousin,’ she said as I was blinking at her. She called Logan “cousin”, does that mean they were related?

No wonder for the peculiar eyes after all for Logan was turquoise which was rare in and of itself.

‘Hi, my name’s Ophelia but my family calls me Lia.’ She said as she was gripping my hands. Then, she gasped. She was blinking her eyes for a moment before she smiled at me as Logan was making his way to the decanter.

‘And I can see why my cousin chose you. But apparently, he did not know himself just yet,’ she said as I was arching my eyebrows.

‘Know about what?’ I asked the woman before Lia was winking at me again. She shook her head before someone was walking into the room as Logan turned to look at the man in his mid-40s.

‘You’re late,’ he said as the man was bowing at Logan. If I did not know any better, this man could be his father.

And maybe it was because he was smirking at him before he was sipping the whiskey that he poured for himself.

‘Quick question,’ I asked Lia as I was whispering to her. She leaned closer before I was asking her the question that I thought a million-dollar one.

‘Why is that man bowing at Logan? Isn’t he was younger and that man was his father?’ I asked Lia before the young woman was looking at me. She chuckled before she patted my hands.

‘Soon enough, you will get used to this weirdness and the truth behind it all, I am pretty sure of that,’ she said before she was nodding at her cousin and went out of the room. Logan was sighing before he took a seat and asked me to join him. The old man was looking at me before he was speaking in a foreign language that I don’t even know.

Now, I was getting confused and confused even more.

To whom I actually married myself to?
