Chapter 3: The Talk
‘How do you find me? Is my father involved with this? Where are you taking me?’ I demanded some answers but the handsome man—I really need to stop referring him as handsome, he has name right?—as I was looking at him. My fiancé was ignoring me. I sighed before I was crossing my arms in front of my chest.
‘At least tell me your name, sir,’ I said before the hunk was looking at me. He was regarding me with his turquoise eyes that was very uncanny.
And beautiful, to say the least.
‘So, you did not read the files that your father asked you to? I can see why you are so adamant to get away from home now,’ he said but still no name.
‘Look here, mister—‘
‘Logan,’
I blinked as I was looking at him. My sentence was not coming out of my mouth now but instead ‘What?’
‘My name. It’s Logan. It would be weird to call one’s fiancé by “mister” or “sir”. So, you can call me Logan, Nora, love,’ he said as I was scoffing at him.
‘I am not your love,’
‘Darling then?’
‘No,’
‘How about dear?’
‘Okay, can we just stop? I want to know where are you taking me and why are you bringing the police with you? If you just want to talk with me, the whole police cars were unnecessary, don’t you think?’ I asked him before Logan was intertwining his fingers. They were long and pale as I was looking at his nails.
It was very feminine and cleaner than me.
‘Well, I told your father that I will retrieve you from this mess of what you call a student. You will be marrying me and it will be the end of our discussion,’ Logan said as I was blinking at him. Then, my blood boiled.
‘Marry you?! I barely met you and now you asked me to marry you? No bloody hell, no!’ I said I was gritting my teeth. Logan just smirked at me before he was putting a file between us. I looked at it and it was my father’s company file. I was tempted to get it before Logan was leaning back on the seat.
‘What’s this? Another reason for you to use so that I will be agreeing to marry you, Logan?’ I asked him as he was staring at me. His turquoise eyes were blazing in the morning light before he smiled weakly.
‘You can say that. Yes,’
‘I would rather die than be marrying to you. You might be a serial killer,’ I said as I was narrowing my eyes. Logan sighed before he was rubbing his face.
‘Would you just look inside first? Then I let you decide what to do with the information that you just read,’ he said before I took the file and flipped it.
Then, I froze and stared at the news article and the documents that were inside the files. I turned to look at Logan again as he was waiting for me to say something.
Anything, really.
‘But…but…but—‘
‘Yes, I know it was shocking but I cannot help but to think of any other solution. Your father has agreed to this as much as I was. So, there is no going back, Nora,’ he said my name like a fine whiskey. I don’t think if I was so angry at him, I would fall head over heels with him.
If only.
‘This is a lie. You clearly made this up,’ I said as I was pointing the files before I smashed it on the seat. Logan just looked at me before he shrugged.
The nerve of a man!
‘Your father took out a big loan of money and cannot pay for it. I offered my help and he took it with the condition that his daughter, meaning you, will become my wife and all debts are considered done,’ Logan said as if it was okay for him to take me as his property.
His paid wife.
I was gripping my hands into fists that I can feel my nails biting into my palms. I was looking at him with anger that I cannot conceal anymore.
‘And did it happen to you to tell me that I will be going on about like a cattle just because you two lads were making a deal behind back? If anything, this has nothing to do with me when I was not even aware that I was being sold like a fucking animal!’ I shouted as the car stopped and Logan stepped outside without glancing back.
I gritted my teeth as I was moving out of the car before I was looking at the building in front of me. No, no, no! Why are we here? I turned to look at my supposed fiancé before Logan was stepping beside me and he took my hand.
‘Come on, the officer will be waiting for us,’ he said as he dragged me into the city hall.
‘What? Why would an officer be waiting for us?’ I asked him before he turned to look at me over his shoulder. For the first time, Logan smiled from ear to ear at me and I was in awe to look such smile on his sensual lips.
Feck, stop it!
‘Because, Nora, you are bounded to marry me and by law, you will be once we got this out of the way,’ he said as he pulled me into the lobby before every woman in the lobby was looking at him. I cannot blame them really for he was really good looking and I was nothing but a couch potato.
I felt shy all of a sudden.
‘Is officer Canon around?’ he asked before the female worker was helping him out, while ignoring me completely. The only thing that made me realized that Logan was not focusing on any of them was the fact that he was gripping my hand.
I felt like I was in a fairytale, surrounded by the females that wanted the prince but he chose me, an ogre, instead.
‘Right through here, sir,’ she said as Logan thanked her before he was pushing me through the door. I stumbled inside the office before Logan closed the door and rolled his eyes at me as I was laying on the floor.
‘You’re such klutz,’ he mumbled before he helped me out and I was standing in front of him before someone cleared their throat beside us. We both turned to look at the old man with white hair and amused smile on his lips as Logan went to shake hands with him.
‘Good morning, sir. I’m Logan and this is my fiancée, Nora. We spoke on the phone earlier,’ Logan said as the old man was smiling at us.
‘I can see that the young love was blossoming and it cannot wait to tie down together. Ah, such love,’ the officer said as I was furrowing my eyebrows at him. Was this old man alright or was he having too much whiskey that he was delusional right now?
This is not young love. It’s barely love. All I felt was hatred toward this man named Logan.
‘If I may, mister. I don’t think you understand—‘
‘Oh, I understand completely. You are too eager to get married that you asked your fiancé to arrange for a court wedding. I don’t mind for it will tie you in a knot nonetheless but it will be sad for there will be no wedding receptions and all that,’ he said before I was grunting under my breaths.
‘Now, now, Nora. Behave, or we cannot marry today. You know how much I want you to be my wife as soon as possible,’ Logan said in a mocking tone that I don’t miss. Perhaps the officer was too deaf to hear the sarcastic tone that Logan put on and I was trying to control my anger for I cannot let this marriage to happen.
‘Actually, I was being kid—‘
‘Now, shall we begin, officer Canon?’ Logan asked me as I was looking at him. I gritted my teeth before he leaned closer to me, close enough to feel his hot breaths on my exposed neck and I sucked in a breath.
‘Do you want your parents to be homeless, Nora? You have been spending so much of your trust fund, the fund that was supposed to be mine as your father told me, and you think you can away with nothing? I think you better consider your options now, love, for I am not a very patient man,’ Logan whispered huskily before I felt my knees turned to jelly.
What is this? I was supposed to be resisting this man but my body thought otherwise.
‘Tick tock, or your family will be perish overnight, Nora,’ he said as I was turning to look at him in the eyes. Our mouth s almost touched but he smirked at me before I was getting closer to his ear now.
‘You may threaten me today, Logan, but remember, Karma’s a bitch,’ I said as I was taking the pen that was holding by officer Canon and turned to look at the marriage certificate documents. I smiled at the officer before I turned to look at Logan.
‘Now, where do I sign the document for I am no doubt cannot wait to be with you, my darling,’ I said as I was gripping the pen when my mind was made up.
I will make him pay if not now, then as his wife, he will suffer in my hands. Just you wait, Logan.
