Chapter 40
Heart Attack
Moon’s voice has Colin spinning around, half growling. He has her in his arms, holding her close to him and breathing hard.
“Umm, problem?” Moon can see he is upset, but she has no idea why.
“Where did you go? I didn’t know where you were.” Colin sounds angry still as he holds her. Moon feels stupid for a moment. She didn’t think he would come looking for her.
“I just went for a walk.” Moon casually states.
“Just a walk?” Colin pulls her back at arm’s length, looking at her sternly again, and Moon starts to feel like a scolded child again. She crosses her arms in defense and pops out a hip tilting her head and looking at him unimpressed.
“Yes, just a walk. I am allowed to do that. I was tired of sitting here missing you, so I thought I would go for a walk.” Moon fumes back at him. It registers in her head what she said. At the same time, he smirks at her.
“You missed me?” Colin is smiling now, and Moon turns red.
“Oh, grrrr.” Moon growls in frustration. “That isn’t the point. I am allowed to do things without you freaking out every time, right?”
“Yes, you don’t need my permission, but I would like to know where you are until… well, until things calm down.” Colin quickly changed what he was going to say. Once they complete the mate bond, then he’ll know if she is in trouble or not, and he can just mind-link her like the rest of the pack.
Moon seems to know what he is going to say, and she stays a lovely bright pink. She turns away from him, half trying to hide her embarrassment. “You know I’m not the one that got kidnaped and needed to be found.” Moon teases.
“Oh, that is unfair.” Colin mocks a hurt tone placing his hands on her arms and turning her to face him. “I do owe you for rescuing me, I suppose. What would you like?” the amount of suggestion in his tone has Moon covering her face with her hands, and colin laughs at her. Kissing her neck. “I can tease you just as well as you keep teasing me.”
Moon feels like her face is on fire, and he lets her go. She slowly uncovers her face, still feeling flushed, and he smiles at her.
“So, dinner? Where would you like to go?” Colin asks, still smiling.
“Aren’t we eating in the dining hall?” Moon asks, puzzled.
“I hadn’t planned on it unless you really want to.”
“Oh?” Moon thinks hard, but she really doesn’t have a clue. The only other place she saw was the little diner in town and a coffee shop.
“How about pasta?” Colin smirks. “Wait here, and I will be back for you. No wandering off this time.”
“Fine, I will wait here. Should I change?” Moon is very confused.
“No, you are perfect the way you are,” Colin says and, kisses her on the forehead and hands her phone back to her before leaving the room closing the door.
Moon sits on the bed, sorting out her jumble of feelings and trying to calm down. She was torn between wanting to jump in his lap and yell at him and his overprotective Alpha nature. She did understand, but he didn’t need to get that upset. She didn’t even leave the grounds. Just wait until tomorrow when she plans on exploring more of the town, and she would like to find the preschool and find all the little ones from her pack and ensure they are doing all right.
Moon has always had a soft spot for kids. They don’t care about how different she is; they like that she plays with them and enjoys listening to them more than the other adults do. She looks down at the phone in her hand and sees the missed message from Ben.
Where is the key Moon? That is all the text says, and she sighs, rolling her eyes. She isn’t going to tell him she has the key, and whoever packed her things didn’t even know they sent it with her. The key is tucked away in the photo album of her baby pictures and photos of her and Gramps. Moon already unpacked it and checked to see the key was still there, safe and sound.
The thought of anyone going into Gramp’s room makes her feel ill. She wants it to stay just the way he left it. Maybe then a piece of him would still be here. If his room was just the way he left, it would seem like he just stepped out for a moment, and she could pretend he would be back.
Moon stops the tear from falling and sits, thinking about whether to text him back or not. The knock at the door stops her, and she wonders who it could be. Colin just left. Was he ready to get her already? Moon gets up and moves to the door opening it slowly and smiling. The smile drops from her face when she sees an angry-looking girl glaring at her. She can’t be more than seven, and her curls are a mess as she stands there glaring at Moon.
“Man stealer!” She shouts at Moon, and Moon blinks a few times in surprise.
“I’m sorry. Whom did I steal?” Moon tries not to giggle as she drops to a knee to look at the girl.
“You took him from me. He was going to be mine as soon as I was old enough.” The girl looks close to tears now, and Moon is sympathetic as this little girl is clearly upset.
“You mean Alpha Colin, right?” Moon asks kindly.
“Yes, he was mine.” The girl is crying now.
“Oh, I see, and who are you, Hun?” Moon gently tries to coax the girl for a little more information.
“I’m Bella.” The girl pouts, “Didn’t he mention me?” the girl is clearly hurt.
“It’s been a complicated few days, Bella. It’s nice to meet you. Would you like to come in so we can get to know each other?” Moon tries.
