Chapter 17
Chapter 17
He looked at his computer screen and realized that Christy’s plan was readily available. Ernest was not prepared just now,
but he was now.
Ernest felt incredibly lucky! He had initially planned to crush Christy only, and now it indirectly resolved his own pressing problem.
Ernest regained his composure and confidently smiled.
In the conference room,
Joshua sat upright in the main seat.
Everyone involved in the project sat on either side with a set of materials in front of them.
Wanting to seize the opportunity to impress, Ernest started his enthusiastic presentation.
Despite how well Ernest presented, Joshua didn’t say a word and remained expressionless throughout. No one dared to speak.
- up.
The meeting progressed smoothly, and the plan was approved quickly. After the meeting, Joshua asked everyone else to leave and ordered Ernest to stay.
Ernest thought he had performed well, and Joshua was going to commend Ernest.
But suddenly, Joshua asked coldly.
“Did you write this plan yourself?”
“Yes, Mr. Melendez. This exhibition is too important. I worked through the night to finish it,” Ernest replied with a smile.
Joshua’s face grew even darker.
Had Joshua not personally seen the plan on Christy’s computer last night, Joshua might have actually believed Ernest.
Except for changing Christy’s name to his own, Ernest didn’t add or do anything to the plan.
Such behavior was no different from stealing someone else’s work!
“Ernest Boone, you have a lot of nerve to deceive me! Do you not want to work here anymore?” Joshua’s voice grew increasingly cold.
“Mr. Melendez, I didn’t lie to you. I did write this plan… A cold shiver ran down Ernest’s spine.
Ernest continued to argue. It seemed that he wouldn’t be honest until he was scared.
“I have seen Christy’s plan, which is exactly the same as yours. How do you explain that?” Joshua said darkly.
“Also, when I left the company at nine o’clock last night, I only saw Christy working. Why didn’t I see you? What are you trying to do by making a new hire rush to complete the plan after work?”
Ernest was sweating as he listened.
Joshua sounded like he was protecting Christy.
Ernest suddenly realized something.
If Christy really annoyed Joshua, she would have been fired, but she was not.
Joshua might have taken a liking to Christy.
Ernest had intentionally made trouble for Christy in order to please Joshua.
But now, Ernest had made a serious mistake by disturbing the woman that Joshua had his eyes on!
Ernest’s mind raced. He knew Joshua’s temperament. If Ernest admitted to his actions, it would only make things worse for Ernest. So, Ernest cleverly responded.
“Mr. Melendez, let me explain. I think Christy is a promising new talent who can be developed into an elite employee for the company. She’s just too young and impulsive. I gave her the opportunity to practice and didn’t expect her performance to be even better than I anticipated. Especially with this plan, she’s such a good employee! It was just my stupid selfishness that made me take credit for it. But you caught me, Mr. Melendez. You’re so wise!”
As Ernest spoke, he nervously laughed, trying to ease the freezing atmosphere.
Facing Joshua’s ice–cold demeanor, Ernest’s laugh sounded bitter.
“What an old fox, Joshua thought.
Ernest was saponaceous, and his response was well–rounded. Ernest had been able to hold the position of planning manager for several years, and it was not entirely due to luck.
Joshua’s wise eyes fell on Ernest.

To be honest, Joshua had really wanted to fire Ernest just now, but if it weren’t for Ernest, Joshua wouldn’t have known about Christy, such an interesting woman!
