Chapter 825
Chapter 825
Isaac stepped out of the police station after an hour.
Nathan was waiting outside.
"Mr. Salter," Nathan approached. "As per your earlier instructions, the lawyer is in place..."
"Get a hold of lawyer Jolin," Isaac cut Nathan off. "I want her to take Joie's case."
Nathan choked on his words, a second later doubting his own hearing. "Mr. Salter, are you saying you want to defend Ms. Joie?"
If that was indeed the case, how would he explain it to Ms. Dustin?
"Just do as I say." Isaac opened the car door. "Handle this with care, and keep it from her."
Nathan paused for a moment, realizing that 'her' meant Brittany.
"Understood."
On the way back to the hospital, Isaac stopped to pick up some of Brittany's favorite treats.
Nathan watched as Isaac entered the hospital, then reached out to Jolin. "Jolin, Mr. Salter would like you to represent Ms. Joie."
Isaac pushed open the door to the hospital room.
Brittany sat up in bed, tablet in hand, likely video-calling Daniel.
The longing in Daniel's virtual hug and his endearing 'Mom' made her smile.
She had lost weight during her hospital stay.
Feeling a pang of distress, Isaac approached her. "Let's put the video call on hold and get some food in you."
Brittany said goodbye to Daniel, ended the call, and looked towards Isaac. "Where have you been?"
There was a distinct aura of the police station about Isaac, somber and grave.
"I had to stop by the station," Isaac replied, opening the thermos he'd brought. He poured a bowl of soup and pushed it towards her. "You've lost weight. We'll have to fatten you up once you're out of here." Brittany took the bowl and sipped the broth. "What did Joie say?"
"She's denying ever live-streaming."

Brittany had anticipated as much,
"And the cops?"
"Don't worry, I'll sort this out for you."
Isaac's voice was low and soothing; he didn't want to tell Brittany that he had promised to help Joie beat the charge.
After finishing her soup, Brittany went to sleep.
Isaac, too, hadn't rested properly in days, lay down fully clothed beside her.
Brittany's cheek, beneath the thin gauze that needed daily changing, was healing better than expected.
Isaac could almost visualize the raw wounds beneath the bandage.
Brittany was already asleep.
He reached out, gently caressing her cheek, and held her close, dozing off into à deep, peaceful slumber. When Brittany awoke next, she was greeted by Kari's indignant face. She frowned, asking "What's wrong?" "Brittany, I just heard the news- Jolin is Joie's defense attorney!"
Jolin was one of the top lawyers in the country!
Brittany, in disbelief, asked, "Jolin?"
"Yes."
Kari was baffled. "What on earth did Joie do to convince Jolin to take her case?"
Brittany's grip tightened on the bedspread, her face paling so much that Kari rushed to support her. "Brittany, are you alright?" Though the news of someone defending Joie was unbelievable, it shouldn't be enough to cause such a reaction!
Brittany's breath was ragged as she finally spoke, "Kari, has this news spread?"
"It has." Kari bit her lip, the whole world was now in on it.
A heavy blow seemed to strike Brittany's heart. She barely registered Kari's concern as
she forced herself out of bed. "Kari, you should go. I need some time to think."
Kari was also stunned. "Brittany, did I say something wrong?"
Brittany waved her off, "Just go."
